I was a huge fan of the original Plants vs Zombies, so I got this Day 1. I wasn't sure about it at first, but much like how a chicken that spits out explosive eggs sprouts from a tentacle, it grew on me! This is a game that doesn't show its entire hand at once and gets better the more you unlock.

Like PvZ, there is a ramp up from from nothing (1 sunflower = lowly 2 tentacles) to a full complement of destruction (a full garden of bullet peas = multiple legs of crushing, spitting, cutting action!). However, this sense of escalation is built through the entire game instead of short rounds; on the bad side, this means that each game starts of a bit slowly and it takes a while to build, but on the good side, once you build up your arsenal the action is sustained from that point. In that sense, it's not as much of a dip-in, dip-out game like PvZ since the feeling of a satisfying complete play session is measured in whole playthroughs, not rounds.

While Octogeddon doesn't have the immediate charms of PvZ (for me) as the personality of each mutation doesn't shine as much as they did in plants, it shares its great art, humour, simple controls, and "just one more time"-ingness.

A really solid slasher movie-inspired puzzle game with great humour, a cute-n'-gory aesthetic, and tricky (but very solveable!) puzzles. Good fun, and recommended!

If you're a fan of jigsaw puzzles and beautiful art, Glass Masquerade has you covered. It's a simple game with intuitive controls, a relaxing atmosphere, and with nothing to get in the way of the colourful stained glass pictures that come to life as you piece them together. Recommended!

If you like word games, and the idea of playing word games to befriend adorable bears (dressed as limes, bumblebees, and cupcakes), and the concept that these bears will then give you super-word-building powers, then this is the game for you.

After playing Hidden Folks I was in the mood for more hidden object games in that vein, and Under Leaves mostly delivers in that aspect albeit in a much simpler way. The game is relaxing and lovely, with a charming picturebook art style and ambient soundtrack. However, don't go in to this game looking for a challenge--while it does get a little trickier in the later levels, it will not take long to go through the game, and what you see is what you get as there are no interactive areas or puzzles to solve. Sometimes, however, short and simple is all you want!

This game is delightful in every way you can think of.

Yup, that way.
That way too!
Yes, even that way!

Delightful!

I am generally not a player of shooters and I am absolutely terrible at this game... but I still like it. Why? Because DRM distills all the energy of a big shooter into a bite-sized chocolate bar made of colour & explosions stuffed with fish. Jump in, explode, jump out again--everything you need with a fraction of the calories. I'm not sure why I went with a food metaphor.

A weird point-and-click adventure that reminds a bit of The Binding of Isaac in its cute-yet-grotesque aesthetic. It's very short (about 2 hours if you don't get stuck), and while the puzzles may be simple they cover a nice range of types, from using inventory objects to short action sequences. The art is well done, and the music fits the game well. Good stuff!

Everything about this game would indicate that I shouldn't like it... and I didn't, at first. But now it's my most played game ever by far, and I'm still not done with it.
