First of all, the idea of Anomaly: Warzone Earth is cool in general.

In the game you play as a commander who command it's convoy to reach it's destination and using pick ups like smoke, repair or airstrike to keep your convoy alive against turret alien enemies when moving through the level. You have a set map which contains streets and roads, and you can decide where you want to turn and on which crossroads. Getting through the level you encounter different types of enemies and get access to new units and equipment. You can collect money to buy new units to your convoy or upgrade them mid level.
I also have to say that the controls are pretty straightforward and easy to get into.

At first I was really enjoying the game and how unique it is, also later levels gives additional challenge when you have a time limit of some sort or have a lot of enemies to take care of and need to micromanage your skills.

However as I played more the game become flat and started to get difficult, thanks to the less frequent checkpoints.
Like I said, the idea is cool that you are the "wave" of a tower defense game, and even though the game introduces different units and different challenges in the story mode and challenge modes, it's just not enough to keep the game interesting, because you doing the same thing constantly. Plan your route, start moving, use abilities and repeat, and this combining with the less frequent save in later levels can make the game frustrating. And yes, you can't manual save your game and basically you have to finish a level to save your progress.

I tried to enjoy the game, but I couldn't continue from the Tokyo chapter. There is effort in the game, but for me it's just not enough to play it long enough. I can't recommend this game, even though the idea interest you. It's not worth it.
