Painkiller: Black Edition is the complete version of the first Painkiller game, which contains the base game and Battle out of Hell expansion.

This is basically an arena shooter, where you play as Daniel who suffered an accident with his wife. His wife is sent to heaven, but Daniel is stuck in the Purgatory. However he gets an offer from a mysterious figure: eliminate Lucifer's 4 generals to prevent a war between hell and heaven and Daniel can join his wife.

Painkiller has a strong atmosphere on its levels, the sound and level design, the theme for the levels and the chapters are spot on. I also liked that each base game's chapter tries to follow a specific theme for their levels and these chapters have their own unique enemies as well.
The gameplay also has its own surprises, because on one hand the movement, gun play is similar to old school FPS games like Quake or Serious Sam, but it also contains secrets on each level (similarly to previously mentioned games) and complete a level specific challenge to earn tarot cards, which they either give a passive ability or they can be activated once per level. I was also pretty surprised how the devs implemented the difficulty levels, as they are not just adding additional challenges but can alter the what levels you will play, or even the ending of the game.
The graphics look a bit outdated for the current time, but considering that this game is more than 20 years old, they hold up just fine. The gore is alright and even the physics works most of the time.
The soundtrack is fitting for the killing spree which the game provides.

On paper the game is pretty enjoyable, but it has its own flaws. For example, on some levels you will get stuck finding out where you need to go to proceed or how to take out a certain enemy, the game does not indicate these details well enough.
At the start of Chapter 3 I had a lot of crashes after each death, which was a bit annoying but manageable.
Trauma difficulty gives a good enough challenge for the player in general, however the final boss fight is crazy hard mainly because of the high fall damage, the props which can get you stuck and the attacks from the boss which can hit you even if you are not even near. That whole thing felt unfair, although it felt great after beating it properly.

The Battle out of Hell expansion adds another chapter with 10 levels to beat, and it continues the story from the main game.

Some of these levels are even better in the main game, and have new or reworked enemies. It adds new weapons which look sick.

But to be honest I was not a big fan of this expansion, because some levels are not fun to play, thanks to the blend theme they have and the tons of enemies to kill in small spaces, which was more annoying at the end than fun. The last 3 levels and even the ending felt bad to me.

If you are looking for an old school FPS to play and you don't mind arena shooters and gritty atmosphere, then try Painkiller. I enjoyed it for the most part and I understand why many people like this game, but it has some flaws which can make this experience mixed. 10€ is a bit much for it, but getting it around 3 - 4€ is a good deal.

I heard a lot of good about Re-Volt, so I gave it a try recently... and this was my first time ever playing this game.

This is a RC car racing game, where you can use different cars which have different stats. In the races you can pick up random weapons on the tracks which you can use against the other opponents. Tracks are mainly daily locations like a neighborhood, museum or a toy shop, and the tracks often have track hazards aswell which you need to watch out for.

The graphics does show signs of age, but to me I find it okay and somewhat fitting for a RC car racing game. Sure, there are textures which looks blurry or on some tracks the draw distance is short (even if you have this setting as high as possible), but it's not bad at all. Also, the game can manage higher resolutions without any problem, which is a big plus. Gameplay is pretty straight forward, you can quickly get into it and understand the rules. The main game mode is championship racing, where you need to beat 4 championships which has 4 or 5 races. You can also do single races and collecting starts in stunt mode. These are connected to each other, because you can unlock additional cars by completing these game modes, and also unlocking other secrets aswell.
The sounds and soundtrack is surprisingly good, I had older Hot Pursuit 1 - 2 vibes from the music in this game which I liked it.

But in my opinion Re-Volt is quite divisive game because of it's controls. The cars in the game are really sensitivity to any input you do, not even mentioning geometry of the tracks which effects the cars greatly. This is something the player needs to get used, and to me it was difficult at first. Also, at first I tried to play with a controller, and I don't know if my controller is not good enough to do small inputs or I couldn't figure out something in the settings, or maybe the game does not manage controllers well, but I couldn't drive the car with it. I need to practice with the keyboard but I had a better experience with that.

With this in mind, it's honestly not that easy to recommend Re-Volt, I think the controls making it a niche game in general. Even though I had tons of fun after I learned how to properly drive these RC cars, some players will have trouble with the controls and won't like the game, so if you want to play something challenging and you don't mind some difficult racing, give Re-Volt a try.

Thank you for Blackburne Games Studio for giving me a key to this game.

In Doctor Life Simulator you diagnose patients and manage the hospital you work at, meanwhile you have to make some decisions which could effect your career and the hospital's reputation.

I like the idea of the game: for treating patients you need to listen to their initial report then conduct your own tests and based on these results you can make your own diagnose. Also, managing the hospital is mainly to get the necessary money on each day and also upgrading the facility, but with upgrades you also unlock additional examination types, which adds more gameplay element and more way to make money. There are some minor details, like buying a car, exploring the city or checking out websites ingame, which adds some depth to the overall game.

But as of now Doctor Life Simulator is in a rough shape. For example, treating patients becomes repetitive when you realize the pattern of the illnesses and you can make your diagnose pretty easy, it's not complicated enough to make you think other possibilities. As of the current version you can quickly get every available upgrade, buy every car and every prop in the first week. The additional content like the driving, exploration and some minor story lines you can have are not implemented fully and has no resolution or real effect to the gameplay.
Then the gameplay is really inconsistent too, for example at the examinations the detection to do fever or heartbeat check is weird sometimes, because due to the camera you have to aim not to the correct body parts to conduct these tests. The UI for taking or assigning patients can get broken sometimes and on some day you can't assign the patients to yourself. Then there is the driving which is really sensitive and hard to handle it, and this is especially problematic when you do the ambulance job types and you have to avoid traffic and not hit invisible contact models.

Even though there are more things to improve on then elements which is properly working, I can see the idea behind the game and it could be pretty nice with some more work to make it more smooth. In my opinion this game would be more fit to be called as an Early Access game, and not as a full game. If you really interested in the game idea and you don't mind the barebone gameplay, you should give it a try when it's on sale, but otherwise skip it and wait for the upgrades which would add some bug fixing and some more content to the game .

Risen 3's base idea is to combine Risen 1 and Risen 2 game mechanics together with a few new ideas aswell and have a big world to explore with many different types of islands, factions and story lines.

It has a lot of quests to do and more islands to visit than in the last game, and also some of the quests are pretty enjoyable. The dialogues and the characters were okay to me and funny sometimes, however this is dependable on the player as the writing could feel cringe or annoying for some. Risen 3 has connections to the previous two games which is refreshing to see for those who have played the last two games, however this connections does not limit new players anyhow, they can still enjoy this game. Difficulty wise the game is easier to play which is good for new players. Soundtrack is also pretty good, controls were fine aswell.

However you don't have to play for too long to see why many people don't like Risen 3, although at first I did not understand the level of hate this game getting, but after going through all of it, I start to understand.
It does sounds promising to have a game which combines the previous 2 games' traits and also have some original ideas but these ideas are only implemented on the surface level. The developers added a bunch of things to play with which are not complete to carry the amount of content and quests which the player is going to play.

For example, the melee combat is more simplified than in the other games, but now the different type of melee weapons are basically not different at all from the move set or from any other property, they behave the same. Not even mentioning that melee is quite annoying to use in the beginning thanks to the lack of skills and either damage sponge enemies or enemies who are keep blocking you.
There is the sea battles, which if you do the first one you already know how the other ones going to play out.
There are the enemies in the game, most of them a recycled from the previous games and from Chapter 2 (which is just a few hours into the game) you will see every enemy in the game and have to endure them until the end of the game. Although there are the dark lords which seems promising to fight against, but there is not important done with them and they also just copy paste of each other.
Or there is the lock picking from Risen 2, which is not changed at all since then and you keep doing the same thing. Or there is the stealth and pick pocket in the game which got more simplified aswell, but also they have no real weight if you fail, because you can either beat the NPCs or run away from them, and they going to forget that you tried to steal from them, so you can try to rob them again, and the list goes on...

...but this is another major problem with this game: many things don't have any weight which would make the game more interesting.

One example is the story, where you have to claim your soul back before you lose your humanity, which is just not true, there is nothing forcing you to get that back and you can even explore freely.
Also, story wise there is barely any moment which would make any serious change in the story, it doesn't even matter what faction you choose, or who is in your crew.

And I didn't even mentioned some of the game design elements which are not necessarily bad, but it's odd for me that they changed it compared to the previous games, like the different hero this time who was never mentioned before and suppose to be the sibling of Patty, who was a major character in Risen 2, or how different Patty and Chani looks in Risen 3 than in the previous game.

All of this makes a game which is interesting on paper, but in action it is just lackluster and repetitive, which I'm pretty sad to see because it could have been something decent. Sure, you can still play it through but in the end you will keep doing the same types of quests, fight against the same type of enemies and make decisions which are barely makes any changes in your story for 30+ hours. If you can endure this or you are really interested in the game then you can give it a try but otherwise just skip this one. It does not worth it, maybe if you get the complete edition for 3 - 4€ or less.

After playing the first Risen game, I thought I will give a shot to Risen 2 and I didn't regret it at all.

The world you can explore is basically a set of islands with their own set of missions, story lines or characters. Some of the side missions and the main quest line goes through multiple islands, the world builds on itself. There are multiple factions to follow and sides to take, finding collectibles which adds permanent buffs, looking for treasures and so on.
The game looks alright for the most part, although it's common to see the shadows flicker, brightness is not really well balanced at some places and the fog was annoying to me, but the latter two problem can be solved by tinkering in the settings / config file.
The gameplay and the fight system felt better than in Risen 1. In this game it feels you have more freedom with your movement and it's a bit more responsive than it's predecessor, but it has it's flaws.
Sound and music are fitting for the game, although nothing too special except a few of the music pieces.

Even though Risen 2 takes some steps to the correct way in my opinion, it also makes some mistake. One of these thing is the story, which I was sad to see it doesn't quite build on the first game, there are not many connections between the two game. Although this means you can play Risen 2 without ever playing the first game, but if you except to see some more connections between the game, you will be left off.
Then there is the beginning and the ending of the game. The beginning is the hardest part of the game, because you have to figure out what is effective in the game and find the skill sets you want to acquire, but this is a usual element for PB games, but I'm not a big fan of it still. In the case of the ending it's pretty lackluster, both the combat and basically the whole build up as it feels that some of the things I collected so far is useless here.
Some of quest trackings are hard to follow and difficult to figure out what you need to do in order to advance the quest line.
Finally, the close combat system is better than in the last game, however it's still not great as you need to hit and run a lot in order to be effective against most enemies, which is just silly to me.

Even though there are some problems with the game I liked this more than the first one. Like I wrote previously, you can even play this game without playing the first Risen, just a few characters or story element doesn't make much sense but it would be still enjoyable. It's true that Risen 2 is not that old school like Risen was, but I think it's a more approachable game then it's predecessor. I can recommend to giving it a go, but try to get it for around 6-7 € the base game, 10€ max for all the DLCs included.

I feel conflicted about Risen.

On one hand I admire the scenery of this RPG. For it's time it's pretty well made, the characters seemed alive and distinct. Also, this game is not holding your hands and you can do whatever you feel like to do, except killing off some of the major characters. It has enough content with the quests and the exploration which can takes easily 25 - 35 hours, or even more, not even mentioning the different route you can take in the story. You are not locked in a class for your character, you can upgrade however you feel like it. And also the game is also challenging even on normal difficulty and the game mechanics are something which the player can get into fast, but takes time to master them.

But on the other hand the combat system gets blend and hard to navigate, and even though it's enjoyable to figure out the enemies move set and do your thing with the combat system, in the long term it gets old. The final two chapters sadly are not fun to get through and feels rushed, not even mentioning the final boss fight. The story gets less interesting as you progress through the game and makes some of the happenings completely useless. Also the physics when you jump and fall around can get broken.

But surprisingly the most annoying thing in the game is the freedom you get with upgrading your character, exploring the game and doing quests, because it is important to upgrade your character and your equipment in a way, otherwise later in the game enemies can take you out easily. Not even mentioning that sometimes you can get easily lost what you can do or what to explore.

You can say that Piranha Bytes' games were always worked like this and for some this is basic understanding, but for those who don't know PB games or just not used to the old school RPGs, this is something which can come as shock. Basically you need to focus on gaining experience and maximizing upgrading important skills in order to get through the game and this can get annoying if you played long enough and you start struggling around the end game.

So, yes I can see the value in the game even if it's old and the idea to give freedom for the player for the exploration, but this is also one of the weaknesses of this game. I believe it's recommended to learn some tips about the game before you start playing it or be familiar with the developers game formula to enjoy it.

Either way, I can still recommend Risen as it is an unique game to play and unusual comparing most of the modern RPGs in the current time. It doesn't worth 15€, get it around half of that atleast.

After I played the demo I was really curious about the full game, and in general this is an alright atmospheric top-down shooter with some interesting story bits, although it's not easy to play it through at first and to get used to the controls, but if you give it some time, you are going to like it.

However after playing the game I have the feeling that a few things are missing: first of all the story is nothing major here, but I don't think it was utilized properly, the game could have been more lore heavy.
And also, after the half way point of the game there was nothing new to see in the game, no new enemies (other than the bosses), no new items and so on. I already knew what to expect for the game and basically if you play in a certain way, you will get through the game just fine. Maybe this issue is coming from the fact that I played the demo a lot so I already know the system of this game.

But to be honest, for the first time this game seems hard and gritty, but if you give it a chance and get used to the controls and the gameplay, you let yourself get sucked into the action, then you will enjoy this game for sure. I can recommend buying it, but get around 50% sale.

I tried to like this one, but it's not good.
If you have played GWENT and/or Thronebreaker you will quickly realize that Rouge Mage's GWENT rules are different from that and not enjoyable, also the matches plays out roughly the same which makes it difficult to like.
If you haven't played the upmentioned games and/or just want to enjoy this as a rougelike card game you will quickly face how luck based Rouge Mage is. Sure, a card game is pretty much luck based, but the AI is really into pulling cards which can turn the whole game around and have an unlucky run because you have a decision between bad and worse.
The playthrough also gets flat after you play a few matches or even finish a run, which just makes the rougelike elements and replayability worse.

I can't recommend this to anyone, not even if you are remotely interested in this. It's not worth it, just play GWENT or Thronebreaker and forget this Single Player Expansion's existance.

I got the game from the developer, thank you for the opportunity.

Undead Exile is a mission based FPS, where you have to kill zombies and monsters in a post-apocalyptic world to find a safe shelter for your group.

Before each mission you can decide what main and secondary weapon you bring and also you can upgrade your character and equipment from the points you gained from the mission, which is a decent idea. Even though there are not many missions in the game, these are set in different environments which gives some variety.

However Undead Exile in the current state is not enjoyable.
The biggest issues are in the gameplay:
  • The movement is slidey, even small slopes slow you down or slide you down which makes no sense. Also, the default movement speed, sprint speed and stamina regeneration is too low/slow, making the bigger maps harder and more annoying to explore. Not even mentioning that for certain floors and staircases you need to jump to get on them.
  • The aiming (iron sight) does not work properly on the guns, the guns shoot away from where you aim.
  • Passive perks activate when you kill enemies, however it seems the perks activate randomly and in general it's hard to know what they actually do, their names are also obscure.
  • There are props which has bigger and wider hit box then the object itself and also, some windows cannot be shot through
  • On some levels the collision for some walls or doors are non-existent, you can even fall through the map on certain levels or the enemies can walk through walls and doors.
  • Some levels have buildings and doors to get into, but it's hard to see which building and room can be explored. Also, it's far easier to open doors by shooting them, then opening doors normally.
  • Enemy AI is very basic, follows the player in a straight line so it can get easily stuck in the props, which can be abused on certain levels, or if the player jumps up to a spot where the enemies can't reach.
  • Enemy sounds are hard to listen to as it gets repetitive.
  • There are many stats which the player can upgrade, but some of them are obscure, hard to know what it does or not useful to even upgrade it. Also, some of the weapons are useless at default level like the sniper or the grenade, but for some reason the sub-machine gun gets OP when the 'Chain' perk gets activated and/or some upgrades are spent on it.
  • In the early levels there are special monsters which are more dangerous than the basic ones, however this mechanic is not used in later levels at all, I think it's an underutilized element to have.
  • Finally, I believe the game uses some kind of Battle Royale assets based on the UI and some of the game mechanics, but this does not click with this game. There are just many different game ideas and mechanics which alienate the game from itself, making it hard to enjoy.

I can also mention the graphics, which are quite basic, models and visual effects are generic and on some levels the gamma is too high for the environment. And also, the game is short: if you use the SMG and upgrade yourself properly, you can beat the game in under an hour.

Undead Exile's gameplay has too many flaws to make it enjoyable, which needs to be reconsidered. Right now, I can't recommend the game to buy, not even on sale as it just is not worth the time. I hope the developer adds some fixes to make the game likable.

I would like to thank the developer for giving me a key to experience this game!

Glamour Riot is a beauty pageant star simulator, where you have to perform in these events and beat everyone... quite literally. You also have to get clothing and other items which can help upgrade your character, participate in different events to earn money and fame to reach your goals.

The base game idea is unique, as it mixes different kind of game elements like beat 'em up, RPG and management aspects which makes a surprisingly enjoyable game. Even though my first impression of the game was not the best, as I felt weird playing but it had it's challenges and caricature about the topic. Graphics are okay, it's made by Unity so you know what to expect, which just works fine. The main gameplay part is the beat 'em up parts, the beauty pageants which are actually challenging, but does not make the game less enjoyable.

The game is in early access, which is definitely noticeable. As of now there are not many events to play which makes the game repetitive after some hours. Some shops and areas in the game area are under utilized, the fighting could have been more responsive with the hits and more in-depth overall, and also there is no real end goal to really play for. The game is also somewhat grindy if you can't figure out how to level up and get fame and money fast. Also, one thing which I couldn't figure out with this game, it targets the matured audience with the representation of the characters and events, but it has no uncensored patch or activities which would "satisfy" this, which I assume the devs will work on it but it seems like a missed opportunity now. Some animations and the lack of facial expressions makes the game a bit uncanny, especially the characters sometime are doll like.

I can see where this project could go and I genuinely like the idea, but it needs some more content to be worth it. Based on the developer's communication to the player base, I have hope that this game in some time will worth it's full price or close to that, but right now if you are interested in this game, get it when it's on sale and have your expectations in check. I can recommend to giving it a try in the current version of the game when I write my review, either check the demo before buying the game or get it around 8-9€.
