Active Matter Demo – Steam Next Fest Impressions

Story:

The demo doesn’t lean heavily into narrative during the early hours, focusing more on atmosphere and tension than deep storytelling. The setting hints at a harsh, anomaly-filled world clearly inspired by extraction-style survival shooters and STALKER series. Kinda reminded me Chernobylite as well. There’s potential here that I can't deny especially with the eerie environmental design and scattered world-building elements but in the demo, the story mostly takes a backseat to mechanics and progression.

It feels like a foundation rather than a fully realized narrative experience.

Game Mechanics:

First things first: the game is not nearly as clunky as some other reviews make it sound. Movement feels decent, gunplay is serviceable(unless it's assault rifles), and moment-to-moment combat can be satisfying. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s functional and occasionally enjoyable.

However, the design decisions raise some concerns. I understand the intention behind putting bots in the first 4-5 raids. They probably thought players would want to feel strong, get attached, build confidence. But forcing that experience without clearly telling the player or giving them a choice is not acceptable. Transparency matters, especially in competitive extraction-style games.

Another major issue: I’ve already seen people claiming you can just play single raids or co-op raids freely. After checking properly, both modes are locked behind additional paywalls. Which, considering the involvement of Gaijin Entertainment, isn’t exactly surprising. That monetization structure will definitely raise eyebrows.

Cheaters are also something I'm already worried about. Whether perception or reality, extraction shooters live and die by trust in fairness. If anti-cheat isn’t solid from day one, the damage spreads fast.

Map design is another weak point. After about 10 minutes, it starts feeling repetitive. I found myself mostly wandering around encountering anomaly zones (very reminiscent of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl-style hazards) rather than meaningful PvP or PvE encounters. The atmosphere is there, but the engagement drops quickly. The maps need more dynamic activity, more life, more unpredictability. Kind of like EFT Player-Scavs, different spawn times like Arc Raiders or spawning enemies after some time like Arena Breakout does.

And finally, community interaction. From what I’ve observed, the developers seem to respond primarily to positive feedback while ignoring well-written, constructive criticism. That’s not a healthy approach. That's why Steam Next Fest has been made for. Not for you to provide something to your publisher or potential publishers to gain funds(I do know they need funds as well, but c'mon guys, It will be us playing the game once they finish it, not the backwater company) If you’re running a demo during Steam Next Fest, the whole point is feedback, both good and bad. Selective engagement only creates friction with your core audience.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

+Nice graphics.
+Decent gunplay and functional movement.
+Strong atmospheric potential.
+Clear inspiration from anomaly-based survival shooters.

Cons:

-Forced bots in early raids without player choice or transparency.
-Paywalled single and co-op modes.
-Concerns about cheaters.
-Repetitive map flow after short sessions.
-Weak developer communication with constructive critics.

Conclusion:

Active Matter isn’t a disaster it’s also far from convincing. There’s a decent mechanical base here, and I won’t pretend the game is unplayable or broken. It isn’t.

But questionable monetization decisions, forced onboarding design, repetitive maps, and poor community communication drag the experience down significantly. A demo is meant to build trust and excitement, right now, it mostly builds skepticism.

5/10

Until next time.
Take care, everyone.

Lost in the Dark, But Worth the Journey

Story:

Set in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow, we step into the boots of Artyom, a young survivor navigating the dark tunnels of the Metro. The atmosphere is easily the strongest part of the game. Tense, immersive, and often unsettling in the best way possible. The world feels alive despite being buried underground. Political tensions between factions, supernatural mysteries, and the constant fear of the surface create a gripping backdrop.

That said, some story moments are held back by unclear objectives. A few puzzle sections felt unnecessarily confusing due to a lack of guidance. I even got lost twice, once during the maze-like sequence in the Library and again at the tower. While that added tension, it sometimes felt more frustrating than immersive. As someone who's read all the main and canon 3 books, the game felt a bit rushed but I guess it's normal that the book was making people re-live the story and the politics in their own imagination, while the game was on common ground.

Game Mechanics:

Gunplay feels weighty and grounded, and the survival elements (gas mask filters, ammo scarcity, weapon maintenance) add meaningful tension. Resource management keeps you alert at all times.
Stealth works well when it works (FC players, you know what I mean), staying in the shadows, managing light sources, and quietly taking down enemies can be satisfying. However, AI can occasionally feel inconsistent.
There are still some technical hiccups. I encountered wall glitches where you can go off-map, and even a moment where I fell off from a vehicle unexpectedly. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it does break immersion when it happens.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

+Incredible atmosphere and world-building
+Strong environmental storytelling
+Tense survival mechanics
+Memorable locations like the D6, Metro2, Tower and the Library.

Cons:

-Some puzzles lack proper direction
-Easy to get lost in certain sections
-Occasional wall and vehicle glitches
-AI inconsistency at times

Conslusion

Metro 2033 Redux delivers a powerful atmospheric experience that still holds up years later. It’s not perfect, I know, rough edges and confusing level design moments are noticeable. But the immersion and tone carry it through.
If you enjoy slow, tense, story-driven shooters with survival elements, this is absolutely worth playing.

Not A.C.A.B. Demo has a concept that immediately grabbed my attention. The theme is bold and the atmosphere tries to lean into tension and moral ambiguity, which I can appreciate. There’s definitely potential here, and you can feel that the developer had something meaningful in mind.

That said, the demo feels rough around the edges. Interactions aren’t always smooth, and some mechanics feel underexplained or underdeveloped. The pacing also drags in places, making the experience feel longer than it actually is. Since I had to stop every single car and detailly search them, unlike their competitor, Contraband Police.

Visually and tonally it sets a mood, but it doesn’t fully capitalize on it yet. Sound design is decent, though not particularly memorable.

Overall, it’s not bad. Just for me it's not particularly engaging in the current state. With more polish, clearer systems, and tighter pacing, it could turn into something solid. For now, it sits right in the middle for me.

Fast, chaotic bug-slaying fun that nails the Starship Troopers vibe. Great co-op potential and satisfying gunplay. As they say: “I'm doing my part!” Can’t wait for the full release.

Unforgiving Mechanics Without Proper Warning

Story:

The world of Dune: Awakening has an interesting setting inspired by the legendary Dune universe, but the narrative experience becomes overshadowed when the game punishes new players harshly without clearly explaining the consequences of certain dangers. The atmosphere and concept are strong, yet the lack of proper onboarding makes early progression frustrating instead of immersive.

Game Mechanics:

One of the most frustrating mechanics is the sandworm death penalty. If a player dies to a sandworm, the game permanently deletes every item carried at that moment. The problem is not the mechanic itself, but the fact that the game never provides a clear, explicit warning beforehand. New players can easily lose all their starting gear -sometimes their entire progression, as I had- without ever knowing such a severe punishment exists. Instead of feeling like a survival challenge, it feels like an avoidable design oversight.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

+Strong Dune atmosphere and environmental design
+Interesting survival concepts
+Potential for rewarding exploration

Cons:

-No clear warning about permanent item loss from sandworms
-Extremely punishing early-game deaths that can reset progress entirely
-Poor communication of critical survival rules
-Frustrating new-player experience that discourages continued play

Conslusion

The game has solid ideas and a strong universe behind it, but failing to properly warn players about a mechanic that permanently deletes all carried items is a major design flaw. Survival difficulty should come from player decisions and risks they understand, not from hidden punishments they are never clearly told about.

X/10(I'll most likely face more negative things about this game as I play, as some of my friends urged me to quit while I can, before I face the other things in the future, we will see)

Take care, everyone.

BattleTech – Frustration Over Strategy

Story:
BattleTech’s narrative has an interesting premise and solid world-building rooted in the franchise’s lore. Political intrigue, mercenary life, and faction conflicts are all there. Unfortunately, the story is often buried under repetitive mission structure and long downtimes. When the gameplay loop becomes frustrating, the motivation to care about the story quickly fades.

Game Mechanics:
This is where the game falls apart.

BattleTech aims to be a tactical, methodical strategy game, but too often it feels unfair rather than challenging. RNG plays an overwhelming role in combat, to the point where high-percentage shots regularly miss with no meaningful mitigation. A 90-95% hit chance does not feel reliable, and the game offers very little transparency or protection against bad luck.

Early-game difficulty is especially problematic. Missions punish experimentation, hide critical objectives behind poor communication, and expect near-perfect execution while giving the player undertrained pilots and fragile mechs. Losing pilots early -which takes significant time to recover from- often feels like a result of dice rolls rather than poor decision-making.

Instead of encouraging smart tactics, the game frequently rewards excessive caution, mission restarts, or save scumming just to avoid irreversible losses.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

+Deep mech customization and loadout design
+Strong atmosphere and sound design
+Faithful to the previous BattleTech universe
+Becomes more enjoyable in mid-to-late game

Cons:

-RNG-heavy combat that feels unfair
-Poorly explained mission mechanics and objectives
-Brutal early-game balance that discourages new players
-Pilot deaths are overly punishing
-Difficulty often comes from attrition, not strategy

Conslusion
BattleTech is a game I want to love. The setting, the mechs, and the concept are all excellent. Unfortunately, the execution leans too heavily on unforgiving RNG and opaque mechanics, turning what should be tense tactical decisions into frustration management.

With better communication, fairer early-game balance, and less punishing randomness, this could have been a great strategy game. As it stands, it’s a deeply flawed experience that only becomes fun after pushing through unnecessary pain.

A Magnificent Sci-Fi Survival Experience

Hello there everyone, First of all I'd like to thank Evolve PR and Creepy Jar developers for giving me a key to play and review their game.

Story:

The lore is delivered beautifully through small notes scattered throughout the world. The interactions and talking between the characters and the AI feel organic and truly pull you into the atmosphere of the planet.

Game Mechanics:

The game offers a solid mix of exploration and survival. However, there are some QoL gaps in the current build. Navigation is a bit of a challenge without a dedicated compass or the ability to see custom pinpoints on the HUD. Additionally, the UI currently locks your movement, preventing you from walking while checking your map or inventory. There is also a minor UI bug during co-op play where the player performing a revival cannot see the progress bar, even though the downed teammate can.

Apart from that, I’ve been exploring this world with my streamer friend, Doru, and we have been absolutely loving it. Despite a few technical hiccups, the atmosphere makes for an incredible cooperative experience. For those who can pick it up, it’s a journey well worth taking with a friend.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
+The game is visually magnificent.
+Deeply immersive environment that keeps you hooked.
+The dialogue between characters and the AI is a highlight.
+For a game of this quality, the price point feels very justified.

Cons:
-Needs a compass and better visibility for custom pins.
-Lack of movement while map/inventory is open.
-Missing progress bar for the player reviving a teammate.
-We need clearer objectives on what to do next. While the trailer showcased base invasions and various bug types, our experience was a bit more limited. We only encountered small, medium, exploding, and spitting bugs, and our base never faced the invasions we were expecting.

Conslusion&TL;DR

Overall, StarRupture is a breathtaking step forward for the sci-fi survival genre. While it’s currently in Early Access and has some minor UI bugs and QoL needs -like the missing compass and movement restrictions- the foundation is incredibly strong. The world is beautiful, the lore is engaging, and the atmosphere makes every moment on Arcadia-7 feel meaningful. Even with the limited enemy variety we’ve seen so far, the core gameplay loop is addictive. If you’re looking for a gorgeous, atmospheric survival-tycoon game to play with a friend, this is it. I can't wait to see how Creepy Jar expands on the objectives and base invasions in future updates.

Until next time. Take care, everyone.

Global Rescue shines with its 3D art, detailed precinct, and dynamic calls. However, unit control is frustrating. Scrolling to assign tasks is slow; suggesting a left-side unit manager for patrol units would vastly improve command flow.

Supporter Pack is the definition of a great "thank you" gift. Let's be clear: this isn't a mandatory DLC; it offers no game-breaking advantages, which is perfect for maintaining balance in the Early Access environment. Instead, this pack is a genuine opportunity to give Jutsu Games a financial boost for their innovative game.

The included cosmetics, like the sleek new vehicle skins (Camo, Flames, Redline, Zone Emblem), the exclusive Survivors Statue for your HQ, and the expanded emblem options(wish that include other countries tho) are exactly the kind of satisfying additions that let you personalize your zone and show off your loyalty. If you love the concept and the execution of this unique zombie survival strategy, buying this pack is the most direct way to invest in its future development. A great purchase that supports a great idea.
