I got it, planned to play only 1 hour, then 6 hours later I finally decide to stop because I feel I need to write a review.

This is a "Real Time Turn Based" game where there's a planning phase for setting moves, and an execution phase where you see the magic happen (there's even a replay/slowmo function for some cinematic fun and goodness).

Without saying too much, this has
- the feel of Front Mission,
- the gatcha loot type (with common/uncommon/epic variants) equipment like Borderlands
- the mission map timelapse, missions, research, workshops like Xcom
- a unique strategy gameplay like no other where TIMING of moves and attacks are key!

If you like all the above (like me) then you will love this game!

Great game.

Best played first without mods.
Then doing it again about 20 times later like me with various mods.
For a single player game, I've been playing over 1000 hours and still enjoying it.

Thank you mod developers!!

It has some bugs and glitches.
But overall it's a great game.

It's very immersive
You can see your body, your hands and your shadow!

It also offers tons of possible choices and paths.
- You can handle everything with stealth - similar to a Metal Gear Solid game
- You can brute force everything - this makes the game almost like Borderlands
- Or you can be super techy and hack everything without firing a shot - like WatchDogs

This is a game where a country can start off as a pacifist democratic nation....
Then because of the change in the population, internal factions and random anomaly events...
ended up becoming autocratic, militaristic and xenophobic.

Then it got fed up by the GU (Galactic Union). So did a "Stell-xit"
Then got steamrolled by an advanced Fallen Civilisation then get destroyed.

13/10 awesome galactic geopolitical simulation

Finally upgraded my computer just so I can play this.
I'm a Final Fantasy fan but this game is also designed for those new to the series.

My opinion is that it's the best Final Fantasy game.
Yes, better then the amazing trio: FF7, FF8 and FF9.

You can follow the Steam Guide showing the order of what to play/watch to get the maximum story line experience. Make sure you get all the DLCs so you can do this. It will significantly improves the experience rather than just playing the main game.

I had a nice test run of this game thanks to the recent free weekend.
Please be aware that the views below are only based on this weekend's gameplay and my hours are far less than many others who had reviewed this game.

PROS:
  • Fantasy & steam-punk setting. My favorite.
  • Great game play.
There are massive TotalWar-esque battles in this game. During those battles, there is deliberate emphasis in preparation, troops placement, skills timing and load-out. Many battles have interesting objectives and ambushes.
Each troops squad type have weaknesses and strengths. They also vary in size and numbers. You can only have 3 squads equipped but you can collect many others in your barracks.
Did I mention huge battles? Some raids requires up to 8 players (so 3 squads x 8 players = there are 24 player commanded squads) and you'll be going against literally thousands of enemies together in PVE Co-op. Just awesome.
Tired of "Strategy" mode? Then you can press TAB and enter "Hero" mode. Here you can still command troops with basic commands + hotkeys, but you will mainly control your Hero in third person view (like Dynasty Warriors) and go crazy on the enemies (like Dynasty Warriors). Yes, there are different attack combos just like Dynasty Warriors too.
  • Each hero type has separate skill tree so there is a good level of customisation to suit to your gameplay. (i.e you can choose to specialise in attacking large mobs or dealing a high damage to individual enemies). There are also equipment customisation (enchantments, crafting) plus troops also give benefits to the Hero so your troop mix also plays a part.
  • So far, I only have very little connection issues. I am in Australia and I play in the NA server.
  • You pay for cosmetics and to get ahead quicker. However, everything can be obtained via gameplay relatively quickly (including the cosmetics) anyways.
  • Developer seem keen to accept feedback, improve the game and provides new content.

AVERAGE AND/OR NEUTRAL:
  • There are large open instances and there is also a "World Map" where you can travel between map instances using an airship.
  • You cannot jump. On one hand, this is good because players/units are forced to travel via certain route and provides some interesting bottleneck strategies. On the other hand, outside of battles, it forces you to walk the loooooong way.
  • Graphics are okay enough but not impressive. It is good enough to allow play on a crappy PC and still enjoy it.
  • The level of customisation in troops and your hero is not as deep as other RPG games (i.e the Elder Scrolls series) but enough to make you think about good builds for those large battles.
  • There is already established Lore due to the previous KUF games
  • As with other MMOs, there there are repeatable dailies + log in bonuses to aid with grinding.
  • I reached level 15 in 2 days (max level is 30 at the moment)
  • Player base just significantly increased recently due to the free weekend + discount. But it's still somewhat quiet.
  • PVE Co-op is only great if you have a good guild, have added a few friends or you are really patient. If not, expect long match-making queue times and/or language barriers.
  • There is a 'territory control' type of PVP in this game but I did not get a chance to try it.

CONS:
  • There are only very few raids with awesome large battles as mentioned above. The majority of the game is in "Hero mode" without your troops (i.e The hero travels alone in large open maps instances). There, the main story takes the Hero through LOTS AND LOTS of fetch and kill quests which are very badly designed, very bland, very repetitive and very boring.
  • Only a few Hero Types and the genders are locked. (i.e all gunslingers are male and all rangers are female).
  • Without paying for cosmetics, the standard cosmetics customisation are limited. This results in many players looks exactly the same.
  • Cut scenes are terrible. Even during the big battles.
  • Voice acting is terrible.

OVERALL:
Even with the terrible cut scenes and average graphics, the mix of Total War strategy and Third Person hack-and-slash wins me over. Nothing beats the amazing feeling when you charge against thousands of enemies alongside your Knights, with your Archers behind you and your Bomber Airships squadrons above you. This is even better when you got amazing friends playing with you.

BUY?
I am buying this game because it's on sale.

Wow. I don't know where to begin.

This game is a combination of:
First Person shooters + Driving Sim + Flight Sim + Deep Sea Diving Sim + Tennis + Golf +Stockmarket Sim + AN AWESOME ACTION MOVIE

It achieves the ultimate game developer's dream of getting the players completely immersed in the game by having the first person view, a HUGE vibrant world and INCREDIBLE character development

Driving, flying and boating around the world in first person view is amazing.

The big winner, in my opinion, is the character development.
Each character has very human and diverse personalities which makes this game incredibly powerful and incredibly profound. They have unique vehicles, unique houses and unique SKILLS which really defines their character.

Yes SKILLS.

Also, the game allow you to swap between characters and while one character is being controlled, the others basically continue on their lives. When you return to them, you will often find them doing things that they like, such as walking in the park or playing with the dog - which further increases the humanity of the characters.

Rockstar Games should make movies.
Because they know how to make good characters and good storyline.

100/100

WOW.
This game totally surpassed my expectations.

- TANKS!
- WW2esque/steampunk setting
- Great character design, weapon design and tanks designs
- The game graphics looks like it's on a painting and it works wonders.
- Very engaging story
- Amazing strategy elements: units have traits (eg. hates the desert/loner) and different specialities (scout, lancer)
- Really utilise cover, weapon range, weapon specialities, armor ratings, elevation etc as strategy elements
- Enemies shoot you as you move. Cover became really valuable.
- Great team battle system because they can support each other as they attack
- It's a JRPG

I can't think of any negatives

11/10
Can't get myself to play a different game at the moment
