While the game launched in an unacceptable state, with crazy stuttering and slowdowns, no matter which graphics settings I was using, it got patched a day after, and the most egregious stutters were fixed. It's still not in a great state, but at least it's playable, and hopefully the devs are working to fix the rest.

Overall, I had fun with The Callisto Protocol. The combat system takes some cues from Dead Space, but it's largely its own thing, and I felt it worked well 99% of the time, with the other 1% being whenever the game stutters during a fight and your dodge goes out of the window. What may seem basic at first ends up evolving into a very engaging melee+ranged mix that further opens up as the player gets more weapons in their collection.
Enemy variety isn't exactly super high, but there's enough new foes thrown at the player that I didn't feel bored with any specific enemy type until the last third of the game where it starts to reuse a boss-type encounter a few times.

I've seen reports of forced stealth sections, but I'm happy to report these were highly exaggerated, as you can fail stealth and still proceed, even though the sections get harder since you'll have to fight enemies head on. Still, that's not forced stealth in my book, so all is fine.

Story-wise it's not exactly War and Peace, but it kept me engaged for the duration of the game and I look forward to the story DLC that's been announced.

Similar to Vampire Survivors, but at the same time refreshingly different. Pretty fun in short bursts!

Vampire Survivors but somewhat simpler, and the player can get a super shotgun. Pretty fun!

Yet another boomer shooter? Yeah, but at the same time, nope. Cultic isn't a simple Doom clone, it's an amazing experience that takes a good amount of inspiration from Blood, but adds so much more that it becomes its own twisted thing. Visceral FPS combat, punchy weapons, exceedingly well designed levels, enemies that are fun to fight, the list goes on. This is the real deal, pure raw first person shooting fun of the highest caliber.
Still here? Run to the store and buy it, you fool!

The Sniper Elite series continues to improve over time. Not all the maps offer the same level of detail as the best ones, but Sniper Elite 5 is a great example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" while at the same time having more stuff to do than its predecessor.
I don't care much for the non-lethal options (we are killing Nazis after all, so why bother knocking them out?) but I appreciate that the option is there for anyone who wishes to use it. Otherwise, we can still happily dispose of Hitler with a well placed nutshot, and that alone is well worth the price of entry for me.

So far, an excellent PC port. At 1440p on a 5600x/32gb/3070 system I'm getting 80-100fps with everything set to Ultra and DLSS Quality mode. The game also features Nvidia Reflex, which helps make the combat feel more responsive.
I can't really comment on the quality of the game itself since I only played the beginning on PS4, but all my friends who beat it had super positive things to say about it, so I assume I'll enjoy it as well.

Lock your game's framerate to 60fps using external stuff such as RTSS, Nvidia Inspector or a similar tool for AMD cards unless you want to go around running like Sonic.
Otherwise, this seems to be a competent port. The keyboard and mouse controls aren't as horrifying as I expected them to be, and with the exception of the 2D parts of the UI being noticeably blurry, it looks really good for a PS2 game.

The game itself is closer to Diablo than a classic Baldur's Gate title, but it's pretty good at being that, so I don't think most people will have an issue with that.

Yeah, the game isn't in the best state at launch, and yeah, at this point DICE should probably know better, considering pretty much all modern BF games have launched with lots of issues. Does that make it unplayable and somehow the worst thing ever? Nope, not even close.

The gunplay is pretty on point, and you can deal with the increased recoil on weapons if you adjust for it. The movement system shows promise, and the new vehicle spawn mechanics will help deal with the absolute horror that were the vehicle spawns in the previous 3 games (though I'd love to go back to BF2 style vehicle spawns).

The Specialists system has good and bad parts. You can mix and match a class so you get a medic with a light machinegun, or a sniper, or whatever you prefer. Sadly, this also means it's pretty hard to tell whether your fellow players are carrying ammo or health boxes, because all characters can do so. Adding some kind of visual to identify people carrying those would go a long way to fixing the major issue with Specialists.

Performance has been mostly fine on my machine (3070, 5600x, 32gb ram, 1440p monitor) and I can hold a steady 90-100 FPS with everything on ultra sans ray tracing. Granted, that's a pretty beefy system, so I can't really say it's representative of everyone's experience there.

The content available at launch feels a bit thin, with only 7 maps available to play Conquest or Breakthrough on the normal mode, and a few classics on the new Portal mode. Still, I think Portal will give the game a lot more longevity than people expect (though EA/DICE should start thinking about just letting people enjoy whatever they want to do there, since that's the idea of the mode). I haven't tried Hazard Zone yet, but the idea is somewhat appealing (basically a crossover between Hunt Showdown and Escape from Tarkov).

Overall, this has launched in a far better state than Battlefield 4, yet people seem to believe that game came out like some sort of diamond-shaped perfect thing, when in fact it was an absolutely appalling launch that soured many people on the franchise for years to come. The big list of "things missing from previous games" is the sort of thing clickbait sites love to peddle as some sort of gotcha, when the game has plenty of other stuff to offer. Now, do I recommend spending 120 dollars on the biggest package? Hell no, no game is worth that much. If you are interested in it, either give it a whirl through EA Play/Game Pass (EA Play is part of Game Pass for PC and you can usually get a month for 1 dollar). You get a 10 hours trial to make up your own mind, and if you like it enough to plop 60 bucks, you can do so (and thankfully, you install it on EA's own app, so you don't need to fiddle with the horror of Microsoft Store disk-eating shenanigans).

I haven't reached level 60 yet (I'm close, at 54), but I'm already feeling a bit burned out thanks to a myriad of weird design choices on AGS' part. For starters, there's no ingame restriction so that a faction can't control 90% of the land, thus disabling 90% of the endgame content (faction warfare).

On the server I'm playing right now, my own faction owns all but two cities, and this is mostly due to a big clan from another game just showing up in numbers and creating like 8 clans that just steamroll everything. End result? You can't play in a war if you aren't from one of their companies, you can't really do large scale PvP because almost no one from other factions bothers to go outside with PvP on, and you can't even play the PvE invasions, because the ruling clan will abuse the kick mechanic to select 50 players instead of the 10 they should be selecting.

Even if we don't consider these issues, there's a lot of other stuff going on that is slowly eroding my patience. Imagine you go into a dungeon with your friends, fight all the way to the end, then one of your party dies when the final boss is at 5% HP. Guess what you have to do if you want everyone to be able to complete their dungeon quest/get loot? Yeah, you need to force a wipe because the game won't let that other player get their stuff or complete their missions. Who thought that was a good idea?
Or imagine you put your stuff up for sale on a town that has lower taxes, then while you are visiting another area which has extreme taxes, that item sells. Guess what? You'll get charged the extreme taxes, even if the item was actually sold on the lower taxes area. Why? Ask AGS, because it makes zero sense to me.

I'll keep going for a while because the game has a lot of potential, but so far, it feels like it squanders more and more with every passing week.
