Target Audience: Anyone who likes a great atmosphere, or a good FPS.

Summary:

Not only is Fashion Police Squad a great unique entry in the FPS genre, it's one filled with character and heart. It's easy to look at the subject matter and the surface and see only a game that may be a gimmick of some sort, but that would be a big mistake. The action is great, using the gimmick of specific weaknesses to force you to focus on particular enemies, while you're dodging enemies left and right. I played on hard difficulty, and even as a veteran of the genre I got a good challenge here, dying a reasonable amount but not to the point of horrible frustration. This is all in the backdrop of clever jokes and a great atmosphere: the game does a fantastic job in setting the stage and you really appreciate the level of detail put into the parodies and references. It's a colorful game with a fantastic soundtrack and great sound design, and it's definitely a game that you'll want to put your full attention into.

Really, a lot of my complaints are small: dealing with specific rooms with enemy design that feels a little too cramp, or needing a tweak or two here with the movement on the belt swinging. A bug or two that would cause me to reset a level's progress, but in the big picture, they don't add up to overshadow the game's great pace, design, and overall fun factor. Great for new or veterans players, it's definitely worth your time and money.

Lists:
Positives:
  • Great FPS control and action: going back to the days of early 90s shooters, but with a twist.
  • Themeing around the game, the moments, the references, and the action, is fantastic and you'll appreciate the detail put into everything.
  • Great boss encounters that test your skills and what you've learned to that point.
  • Excellent Sound Design that enhances not only the gameplay, but the immersion of the world.
  • Upbeat music helps the action a lot, worth listening to as background music in general.

Negative:
  • Some of the areas, maybe 15%, could use some refinement as they seem to have too many enemies in a small space.
  • Little bugs here and there (especially with teleporting enemies) can slow progress.
  • Could have maybe used one or two more guns in the big picture.
