Balatro is a time vampire, in the best and most satisfying way possible. Hours will pass as you gain more experience ,taking the average deck from barely making 600 points, to creating a nigh infinite looping score machine that sets the score bar on fire. Some of this is gained through skill, other times, you play the long odds against the house, either risking the entire run or making it the best run of all time on the fate of a single card's roll (Like Invisible Joker, or Ahnk!) Despite my best efforts to be productive, the siren call of hearing the exceptionally satisfying score ticking up, of trying to figure a way to rig the game to breach higher stakes, and relishing the highs and lows of a run keeps calling me back.

So, where to begin with the game.

At this current juncture, I'm pretty much burnt out on the game. MR 22 of 30, seen a lot, done a lot, and been through a lot. Can I say that everything about the game is good? No, I can't. You'll find the charm of open worlds fading away far too quickly by the time you finish Fortuna, and you'll find the contents of many subsystems left very.. undercooked.

However, can I say that I'd dis-recommend Warframe? Not at all. 3K hours in, and I still remember some rather fond moments, from figuring out how to fight the eidolons on the plains, to securing my first tri-dolon, to building and tinkering with a frame build I still use to this day on Chroma, and even making my first few kitguns. I remember the old times of self damage, too, where I could use my own weapons to boost myself further along. Both orbs, a treat, and after getting around the frustration of the nemesis system, getting my first grineer ally to manifest in a mission to save my ass was very good. Jamming out to music while grinding in the old void was also very fun, though those times are long gone, unfortunately, replaced with a little bit of a worse system. The story, now that it seems they've got a good handle on the way they want it to go, is also rather interesting, and I still appear to at least keep up to date on it rather than have it spoiled.

I guess what I am trying to say in this long rambling thing is: I recommend the game. I do. Just.. take it easy on pushing content. Don't be like me, who binged the game for months at a time, take it at your own pace. Don't let the naysayers, and the people complaining about strats being nerfed to let everything else be more fun spoil your exploration of the game. Just.. temper your expectations. The game is built with many systems, but some less viable and fun than others.

Bumbo has my soul captive until I complete the game, and is threatening to trade it for a singular coin. Because Bumbo WANT coin.

Jokes aside, the game is plenty fun, and with a good head now in charge of the updates for repentance, ala the Antibirth team, character QoL is improving vastly. Most normal characters are good fun to play now, and most tainted are refreshing, except for Tainted Lost, which is actually an experimental torture device devised by NATO to break even the strongest spirit.

9/10, Give Edmund coin or Bumbo will keep my soul.

Once upon a time, I had few words for the game. That it was very fun. And once upon a time, it was. I think the time I left the old review, it was about 2012, close to the release of Mann Vs Machine. The game had exceedingly few hackers, and due to the community being the ones to put up the majority of servers instead of valve, no such bot craze could even really happen. You could experience a wide swath of game modes, and burn away 8+ hours if you weren't careful. The breadth of weapons and playstyles alone made the game addictive.

That was then.

Tune in now, 6/4/2024 as of writing, and it's a significantly worse experience. The servers are now mostly Valve facing, and there are fewer and fewer community servers given the traffic being soaked up by that fact. You boot up into these servers, and there is a 99/100 chance that you will end up in a lobby infected with peculiar snipers. Ones whose weapons remain pointed up into the air until a pixel of a normal player appears, and said snipers will hone in and shoot them down. And this is just if they don't overwhelm both teams. In the event that they do, well, on top of making playing unfun, they also try to actively stop players from playing at all, by spamming vote kicks, which pass because of the bot majority. And then, on top of that, they use tools to create AI generated voices of people, and have them say some of the most revolting things imaginable.

To add insult to injury, most people who speak out about them, and try to bring attention to the fact that it isn't just some guy, but an entire series of botnets doing this, end up getting their voice added to the machine spewing hateful things, as well as getting doxxed and attempted swatted. Further insult to injury, Valve asks you to pay money for this game that they refuse to fix, despite it being in the second highest tier of revenue for the company, and has the further gall to ask for MORE money from a new game coming out that will use the utterly ineffective VAC program, meaning that THAT TOO will fall victim.

To put it succinctly, and in a bootleg Project Moon way:
#FixTF2, protect future games.
