Back in my day we would keep our eyes open all spring for a honey bee swarm. A swarm is when a nest of bees gets so large that part of the population leaves with a new queen to form a new colony. If you saw a swarm on a tree branch, you could cut the brance the literally shake the bees off into a box so you could later have your very own bee hive.
