Here are the release notes for Update 78: Natural 20, released on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026.

The Anniversary event begins February 25th and continues through March 31st, 2026. Sterling's Remnant Rush continues through March 2nd, 2027. Get started by speaking to Fred in either House Phiarlan by the Phiarlan Chapterhouse or in House Jorasco near...the other Fred? Find Fred in House Jorasco near the entrance into the Mists of Ravenloft.

The Arcane Trickster is a new rogue class archetype that is free to everyone for a limited time! Find the Giver of Gifts on Anniversary Island to add the Arcane Trickster to your game account. You can claim Arcane Trickster for free through March 31st, 2026! The Arcane Trickster will be available afterwards in the DDO Store for points. To pick up your first 20th Anniversary Cloak, speak to Weaver, Master of Cloaks, located just around the corner clockwise from Sterling the Strongbox. Once you acquire a cloak by speaking with Weaver, you can pick up additional cloaks for your account by interacting with Weaver In Training, Apprentice of Cloaks on the lower floor of the Hall of Heroes. 

• Force damage now interacts with Magic Resistance Rating normally.

• Sweeping Strikes for Thief Acrobat now uses the highest of STR/DEX/INT.

• Dark Ascendant Bite in Dhampir and Dark Bargainer now has a standardized DC (DC 16 + Highest of STR/CON/INT/CHA Mod + Stunning Bonuses + Enchantment Bonuses)

• Chain Missile Update:

  • The Chain Missile spell has been revamped to fire 3 mini AOE blasts instead of a long chain of single target hits.

  • New Spell Description: "Fires a cluster of three magical energy darts that unerringly strikes its target inflicting 4 to 5 force damage. Each missile striking your target explodes outwards, striking other creatures near the primary target in a small radius. D&D Dice: Each missile deals 1d2+3 force damage."

• Scorching Ray's bolts for players (not enemies) has been updated to do 7-12 damage per two caster levels, and its Max Caster Level has been set to 20. Scorching Ray's bolt progression has not changed.

• Frost Lance bolts for players (not enemies) has been updated to do 9-16 damage per two caster levels and its Max Caster Level has been set to 20. Frost Lance's bolt progression has not changed.

• Magic Missile and Chain Missile damage per missile for players now increases by 1 ever 2 caster levels, with a Max Caster Level of 20.

• Force Missile's damage is now 1d4+1 damage every 2 caster levels per missile. Force Missile's Max Caster Level is 20.

• Mantle of Invulnerability (used by liches and a few demons) no longer blocks spells by level, but instead grants 25 MRR. This effect is able to be dispelled.

• A fix has been implemented to prevent Thorn Bloom from sometimes failing. However, repro has been difficult for this bug, so let us know if you continue to encounter this issue.

• The Doubleshot bonus from Shuriken Expertise and Advanced Ninja Training is now visible on your character sheet.

• Items in Barter Boxes now properly display their minimum levels.

• The buff bar now extends all the way across your screen regardless of screen resolution.

• The Earthgrab SLA in Earth Savant now correctly states that it is a Conjuration spell.

• DC and cooldown on Light and Dark versions of Stunning Blow now match base stunning blow.

• The Mystical Band now correctly drops in Isle of Dread.

• The character sheet no longer displays a baseline of -1% Ranged Attack Speed.

• Warlock's Fog Cloud now lasts its intended duration.

• Stormrage no longer displays out of date duration info in its tooltip.

• Reaper's Arcanum VI now awards its proper amount of Spell Points.

• Dire Thaumaturge icons that offer a split between INT/WIS/CHA now have their proper icons.

• The feat Sneak of Shadows now grants its proper Sneak Attack to-hit and damage.

• Fixed a typo in the text of Plague Wolf.

• Fixed a typo in the Sorcerer Savant Awaken Elemental Weakness abilities.

• The Red augments from Vecna Unleashed now properly apply their effects to your weapon and not to you.

• Lingering instances where the Helm of the Warblade's Crown of Summer effect does not work have been fixed.

• Control Undead now properly works with Eschew Materials and abilities that otherwise allow you to ignore material components.

• Tenuous Relationship With Death in Dhampir and Dark Bargainer no longer drops on Death.

• Dhampir Traits no longer drop on death.

• Fixed the icons for a lot of Dhampir and Dark Bargainer Abilities.

• Adjusted the tooltips of Shuriken Expertise and Advanced Ninja Training to make it clear that they cap at Dexterity 100 / Doubleshot 100%. (Note: this is what they do currently.)

• Flash Freeze's tool tip now correctly indicates this spell has recurring saves, and the recurring save frequency is now correctly set to 3 seconds.

• The Fire Seeds Spell has some physics bugs fixed.

• The Nothic's eye beam visuals should more reliably disappear when it is killed during the attack.

• Divine Crusader ability 'Law of Divine' now properly grants 2 Imbue Dice when you did not previously have the feat Embodiment of Law.

• Bladeforged no longer drops through the ground when using 'Smite Evil'.

• Fixed a typo in The Golden Curse effect.

• The Song Hunter Fey Hound now has its proper name.

• The shield The Vengeance Manifest now provides its shield bash % chance.

• The Ruby Eye red augments now correctly proc.

• Fixed a spelling mistake in The Necronomicannon.

• Fixed a typo in Thorn Knight form.

• Adjusted the icons of Blightcaster's Wild Shape forms in the buff bar to better match the forms granting those buffs.

• Blighted Bite now lasts its listed duration of 1 minute per caster level.

• Blighted Bite now has its correct icon.

• A planter floating in the air in House Jorasco has been moved to the ground.

• Beloved of the Divine no longer instantly dispels its own martial weapon bonus buff for no reason and instead just works like it normally should.

• Epic Spell Power: Poison can now be properly taken at level 22.

• Wild Magics in Shiradi Champion now properly grants its Force, Chaos, and Universal Spell Power.

• Some Robe icons have been updated to allow for item border colors to appear.

• Blighted Charge and Jaws of Doom now correctly state that they use Conjuration for their DCs.

• Heretical Lore and Penetrating Blast now have more accurate tooltips.

• Elemental Words: Static Charge now has its proper name in your character sheet.

• Dismissing Strike no longer requires Grandmaster of Flowers Core 4 AND Dark Philosophy, just one or the other.

• Ninja Spy Core 1 and 2 now have proper spacing in their tooltips.

• Insightful Alluring Skills Bonus now grants Insight bonuses to all of its skill types.

• Might's Reward in Beacon of Hope now grants its proper positive Spell Power.

• The display DC for Necrotic Ray SLA in Death Domain is now accurate.

• Fixed a small typo in the Pendant of the Stormreaver.

• The Curse of Butterflies no longer sticks a bad effect in your buff bar.

• Mass Confusion in Tainted Scholar now costs the correct amount of Depravity to activate.

• Zero Degree Comet and Moon's Shadow in Magus of the Eclipse now properly save for half damage instead of being totally negated.

• Arcane Insight now displays its correct duration of 30 seconds.

• The Purity Filigree Set now properly protects against all variants of Mummy Rot.

• Moonlance and Gloomspear can now be cast while Quelled.

• Bleed the Weak in Dark Hunter now properly scales with Double Strike and Double Shot.

• Brawnpits now always shows up as he promised in Madness of Crowds.

The Arcane Trickster is a Rogue class Archetype who dabbles in their own kind of magic to augment their abilities. Arcane Tricksters have modest skill in Enchantment and Illusion magic, but they can also “steal” spells from other classes. This archetype also summons a magical Mage Hand to cause mischief, aid in battle, and disable traps from a distance! 

Once Update 78: Natural 20 is released and through March 31st, 2026 you can speak to an NPC called “Giver of Gifts”, located on Anniversary Island, which is accessible by speaking to the NPC Fred in either House Jorasco or House Phiarlan near the location of the 10th Anniversary Event. 

The Giver of Gifts will award your account the ability to play the Arcane Trickster archetype permanently! Log out and back in after acquiring the Arcane Trickster to grant it to your account. The Anniversary Event runs through March 31st, 2026, so make sure to claim your Arcane Trickster while the event is active to get it for free! Once the Anniversary Event is over, the Arcane Trickster will be available in the DDO Store for points.
