You want to sneak through the shadows, slit a few throats, and steal everything that isn’t nailed down?
Good.

But first, let’s see if your precious machine can keep up.

I’ve prepared a little list of “requirements”. Think of it as a test. If your PC survives, you get silky shadows, sharp steel, and cities worth robbing. If it doesn’t… well, I hear farming simulators run on anything.

Tedious inconsistent stealth with awful checkpoints that will have you wasting a bunch of time if the inconsistent stealth alerts an enemy causing you to die.

I wanted to replay the game and do some extra achievement cleanup before jumping back to Styx 2 and then finally the new game. Styx 1 is by far the one with less quality of life stuff. Never made sense to me you can use throwing knives once despite the tough design of them and despite they are right there after killing an enemy. Getting all treasures is easy enough but towards the end the lack of resources and some enemy type will make you think how to trick them and get around the problem. In general a bit old but very enjoyable stealth game, maybe a bit repetitive in level design and reuse of areas, that in my opinion could have been the way to go for the Assassins Creed franchise.

Goblin Cell. I wish there was more to it, but it runs out of tricks almost immediately and then just stays the same across 15-ish hours, revisiting the same gray/brown locales over and over. There is something to the verticality and the hoppier take on stealth, but it cannot even remotely sustain itself for the running time.

It's always odd when you see something this clearly inspired by a game series, yet it barely builds on the more useful lessons from that series. Splinter Cell finds variety in the mundane and methodical, and in abandoning that aspect entirely, Styx finds nothing to offset how one-note it becomes.
