As with other entries in the anthology, five main playable characters form the emotional core of the story. The cast includes familiar faces, notably [/]Ashley Tisdale[/i], whose performance as Rachel King adds nuance to a character caught between professional duty and personal relationships.

The writing is stronger and more grounded than earlier entries in the anthology. Characters feel less like archetypes and more like flawed individuals shaped by stress and trauma. Dialogue can occasionally veer into melodrama, but overall, the performances—facial capture and voice acting in particular—deliver convincing emotional weight.

The relationship system is critical. Every interaction subtly shifts loyalty, hostility, or respect between characters. These variables affect cooperation in combat scenarios and influence who may risk themselves for others later in the narrative. The branching narrative structure allows for significant variation, with multiple endings and permutations of survival outcomes.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes represents a maturation of the anthology formula. By fully committing to its creature horror premise and integrating geopolitical tension into character dynamics, it delivers a more cohesive and engaging experience than its predecessors.

While it remains closer to an interactive film than a mechanically complex game, its atmosphere, improved pacing, and meaningful branching structure make it one of the strongest entries in the series. For players who appreciate narrative-driven horror with high production values and replayability, House of Ashes stands as a standout chapter in the anthology.

Wow. This was my first "Dark Pictures Anthology"-Game, but I loved it.

The gameplay (or the lack of gameplay?) is rather nice. It's more an interactive movie than a game, but I personally totally like this genre. Gameplay wise, you may can compare it to the Quantic Dream games.

The graphics are great - in my personal opinion - but I'm not a graphic junkie, so idk. There were some graphic glitches with some textures, but I could handle them, and besides this, I never encountered any bug.

About the plot... ....light to mid spoilers following.
I was totally perfect for me. I love military stuff, ancient civilizations, vampires, and sci-fi. Thus, House of Ashes is just MY mix. Besides this, the decisions to make felt really important, and some of them were truly hard to make.

A lot of ppl complain the plot twist, but I think it's totally fine.

There ARE some plot holes, but as I told you, it's kind of an interactive (action-) horror movie, and what would be a horror movie without plot holes? They exist, but if you are not too supercritical, they should be tolerable.

The characters may not be the best ones, but they are okay. Eric was kind of too whiny, Rachel felt a bit out of place, and Nick... Nick was kind of boring. But I really cared about Salim, and his bromance with Jason felt great.

Besides this, especially the last third of the game felt like an hours-long version of Mass Effect 2s suicide mission - for many reasons. Of course without the ME2 gameplay, but it still felt awesome as ♥♥♥♥.

Due to the rather short length, it's not worth the full price - depending on your budget. But I had much more fun with it than with many other games, so if you have some spare $$$ to spend and/or there's a nice discount, I totally suggest giving this a chance.

Honest Review:

You can finish the game for 4-5 hours or less dependent on your play style.
But to complete the game it takes more than 12 hours because you cannot skip dialogues.
~I dont know if this Good or Bad in some people but it feels like movie than a game.

The main plot or rather how the story begins – didn’t fully work for me. It’s not really my vibe. I definitely prefer something more in environment of Until Dawn/The Quarry

But putting that aside, regarding coop – a lot of scenes are missed when we play with someone. If I hadn’t had my friend’s shared screen open on a second monitor, I wouldn’t have known what was going on.
The game tries really hard to make us argue, which we can ignore except for one thing – the Eric and Rachel relationship storyline. Right at the beginning we said it was over, that there was someone else. Eric even saw Rachel kissing Nick. And yet there still has to be drama about nothing in a mine full of monsters. Even if we choose not to say anything, the game pushes its own outcome.

The choices are varied and it’s clear they have consequences. The game is forgiving most of the time, but sometimes one mistake in a single scene can ruin everything. The only major downside was the final choice – or rather the lack of it (radio signal). I know which scene it results from, but still – it should be OUR decision, not the game’s. Why were we denied the option to choose?

而它超出我预想的优秀！！！！！！！因为另外3部实在实在不行。

电影化叙事互动游戏的经典之作，在这类游戏里会是经典里程碑式的经典。

这几天促销价 大约 14 RMB，果断入，我是49买的，想想那一堆高价垃圾游戏后，还是觉得买这值。
PS：另外三作我认为着实不行，都说不如 这个。
另外目前已发售的3部，任何一部，各位要是玩后觉得至少有一部是屎，不用怀疑自己的看法。
另外3部和 采石场惊魂 相比，都比不了，比 house of ashes 灰冥界 差太多了。

Interactive Movie with middle of the road graphics, story and characters.

I don't care how good the game is going to be, I can't set the right resolution (4K) and choose the right display. Horrible technical experience so far, man its 2026 get your sh!t together.
