Tell Me Why is one of those games that desperately wants to feel profound but ends up feeling painfully self-important. It leans hard on emotional themes, yet rarely trusts the player to interpret anything on their own. Every revelation is spelled out, every conflict stretched thin, as if subtlety was completely off the table.

The pacing drags through long stretches of slow walking, repetitive dialogue, and forced “emotional” pauses that feel more staged than sincere.

Tyler shouting about being selfish and repeatedly yelling “it’s about me, it’s about me.” Rather than feeling raw or authentic, it comes off as awkward and heavy-handed. Scenes like that don’t land as powerful; they feel exaggerated, almost forced, which undercuts the seriousness the story is aiming for.

On top of that, the game’s handling of its social themes can feel overly preachy. Instead of weaving its messages organically into the narrative, it sometimes comes across as pushing its perspective in a way that feels less like storytelling and more like lecturing. That heavy-handed delivery makes the experience feel agenda-driven rather than character-driven.

Gameplay-wise, there’s barely anything to hold onto. Exploration is limited, puzzles are extremely simple, and player choices don’t feel meaningful enough to justify the game’s intense narrative focus. By the final act, what should feel like an emotional climax instead feels muted and overextended.
