Gothic did everything better a year earlier.

One of the classics, truly a favorite. Big cult following. Absolutely worth the money - but be prepared for a little bit of tinkering. The magic system will feel impossible to get right at first without mods - this is not due to a learning curve or intended difficulty but rather is a side-effect of the age of the game. Basically what happens is you cast spells by actually drawing the symbols using your mouse (which I think is extremely cool) and this worked perfectly on older hardware but on modern hardware something about the higher framerates confuses the character recognition system in the game and causes it to not recognize what spell you are trying to cast and basically fails each time. Instead of letting this turn you away: buy the game and then google "Arx Libertatis". This is a modification to the game that makes it fully functional with modern hardware and enables you to port your purchased copy over to any system you want - Apple Silicon Macs, Potato PCs, Nintendo Switch, even the PS Vita! This game is an important piece of history, by far one of the best purchases you could possibly get for just $5.
