October 1997 - first GPL release!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is version 1.2.10 of the KBackup Software for Linux/Unix.

Version 1.2.9 has been around for about a year now and I had almost no time
to improve it. Unfortunately, all efforts to hand this work over to someone
else somehow failed.

I have therefor put together this new version 1.2.10, which fixes several of
the most annoying bugs of earlier versions. However, a couple of improvements
have not been made, simply because I do not have the time for them.

If YOU are willing to contribute to this work, please send e-mail to:

KBackup@usa.net - This will be forwarded to whoever is maintaining this
                   software.

A lot of people contributed bug reports and fixes and tried earlier
versions. Thank you to all of you who have helped KBackup become what
it is now!

I have also decided to put KBackup under the GNU General Public License (GPL),
to ensure that it will stay freely available for everyone -- even when I will
no longer work on it. A copy of the GPL is included in the documentation of
KBackup.

SUPPORT:
--------

Yes, there is:

	1. The KBackup homepage at: http://KBackup.home.ml.org/

	2. The KBackup mailing list: kbackup-list@sitewerks.com
To subscribe to the list, send an e-mail to majordomo@sitewerks.com,
containing the line "subscribe kbackup" in the _body_ of the
	   message.

	3. If neither the homepage nor the mailing list can answer your
question, you can send mail to the maintainer at: KBackup@usa.net

IMPORTANT:
----------
Please take the time to test both, Backup and Restore before relying on it.
I believe KBackup is stable and reliable, but ALWAYS test a backup system
before trusting it!

INSTALLATION:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

...is pretty simple: just type "./kbinstall" in this directory.
The install program will install all files in the proper places. After
Installation you can remove this directory tree.

To start it, type "kbackup".
To get it working, you should look at the configuration menu, especially
at the "Configuration/Configure KBackup/Select device/type for backup"
section to configure your backup device/file.

You need dialog and preferably afio to use KBackup. If you do not have
them, look into the files in the tools/ directory.

PROBLEMS, BUGS?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before submitting a bug report, PLEASE read the documentation
coming with KBackup. Most problems reported are covered there.

Also, please note that I can only answer to KBackup specific
problems. If you do not know how to get your drive working (
especially if you are crazy enought to trust ftape), do not
ask me about that.

If you have a problem with KBackup itself, want to suggest an
improvement, or (best of all) submit a bugfix, mail to:

			KBackup@usa.net

you can do so by sending e-mail to: Ballueder@usa.net or writing to:

PLEASE do not send bugreports to this address! For bugreports or suggestions,
ALWAYS use the KBackup@usa.net address!
