It does what it's supposed to do, but not nearly as easily as I would like. This is coming from a person who's grown quite used to InDesign, and there is such a steep learning curve coming off of it. If you're used to learning to do things by intuition and experimentation prepare to crack open a manual, because this is a somewhat challenging program to get started with. Definitely usable, but try it when you're deadline is months away and you have all the time in the world to figure out something new.

I can't get it to run, a better installer would make a big difference.

As an average DTP'er, I like scribus a lot. I do not make complicated documents, but simple compilations of text and corresponding photo's to illustrate some craft of familymembers. I hope that the good work of all contributers wil last as long as possible so many people can use Scribus.

I currently do one layout with it, and, yes, I love it :D

Excellent. Gives Print industry EPS output. Easy to use. Professional results. Runs on Mac Linux or Windows. Is free(if it was't open-source and commercially sold it would be 700 euro a shot) Something to make Adobe worry about ! A full News paper is produced intirely in Scribus: http://www.sovereignindependent.com/ Download PDFs to see the results.

Been using it exclusively for pro DTP output for two years now. Sure it has weaknesses and a few failings but then so do I!

Scribus is my lifesafer, couldn't life without.

Scribus is a DTP package that really packs a punch. It's highly useable, even though it has a rather steep learning curve. The PDF documents you can create with it are of professional quality. The 1.3.3.x releases are rock solid for production work. The upcoming 1.4 release has many hidden gems, like being able to embed instead of rasterizing EPS illustrations, greatly simplifying the workflow with Inkscape.
