Provably the best backup that I've ever used both local and remote backup. It's free too. Even better than some professional backup software that I'm using right now. Perfect for my NAS personal cloud using SFTP...

Nice for simple workstation backups, but too many missing features for professional use: VSS on Windows, 64-Bit-OS support out of the box, Windows ACL support for example.

Anyone could see, that the developer has done a lot of work and that this tool handles the most use cases of backup and of course restore as well. Areca has a lot of features, encrypting is my favourite one. Also the pre- and post processing is a great feature, so I could do some clean-up before backing up or could shut-down some applications before, so that are no file locks are hold by them. The preview of files out of the logical view did not work, but I think it's a configuration issue. My wishes to Areca are a) Some kind of diff view of different backed up file versions, like TortoiseSVN is able to. b) A documentation of all features and configurations. It's a shame, that such a very good tool has got a lot of lacks within it's documentation. In general: Use this tool, donate it. Thumbs Up!

I am using this software to backup my personal data files, my email, contacts and favorites etc.. All in all, it's about 12 GB (after Areca compressed it). I'm doing incremental backups. The first (full backup) took about 9 hours. But now that the full backup is out of the way, the incrementals take about 30-45 minutes. All in all, I'm very pleased with it. The features I wanted when I was looking for a backup program: Can be automated via its own scheduler or Windows Task Scheduler. GOT IT. Will retain multiple versions of each file. GOT IT. Will even retain backups of files that I've deleted from my system after the backup was created--but the backup program will recognize the file has been deleted from the system. GOT IT. I should need to restore the entire archive (in the even of a hard drive failure in my laptop), I can do so and know that the LATEST VERSIONS of every file will be restored. AND files that I've deleted will not be restored. GOT IT. Backups can be stored on the USB drive that I've got connected to my network via a NAS adapter. GOT IT. Back up is continual--changing a file means that file gets backed up immediately. DOESN'T HAVE IT.

Deltas, project has a lot of potential.

Well looks nice and all, as introduction to backup tech, but actually, it really sucks. 1. suck-point - Java, Java and once again Java - very big in memory, slow as s***, SSL enabled backup can easily last several hours. 2. suck-point - SSL support - truly sucks. Even after several upgrades it is simply unable to backup to proper FTPs enabled server like vsftpd. Has broken SSL support, dies out randomly without any meaningful explanation, generally botched up. FileZilla and other proper FTPs client work without hitch. 3. suck-point - several backup definition format changes without notices, not very user friendly. 4. suck-point - no volume shadow copy on windows, that is just sad, can be PITA on locked files. So you as see I am searching for something better, any ideas?

The project is already good, but it needs still some impovements. But better than many commercial products! A few features added, it could be the best backup solution for normal user!

So far the best open source free BackUp utility out there. It offers all that can be found in a commercial product. It also provides the user with lots of ways how to configure the tool and create image archives for example, that are updated by every backup and you don't need to remove/recreate them.

This is a great piece of software. Please keep up the good work. I use this to back up all my personal and work-related files. It is fast, easy to use, works as expected and gives me the piece-of-mind that my files are safe. I saw a while back that you were thinking about abandoning the project, please don't! Keep up the good work and don't worry about the cynic critics.

Really good backup solution. Running it on a 4k user site and works awesome.

Very very good for personal and semiprofessional backup! Like it very good!

Great software!!!. Kudos to development team. Useful for home based backup data. Not sure about professional though. I have taken a backup with encryption with 8.00 GB and it took 2 hours for the first time (including verification). This is quite ok to make sure that your data backed up is indeed sane. Later incremental backup with encryption and verification is more faster. Good Job!!

Works nicely and reliably. No need for expensive tape-backup solutions. Areca does it all. Local and/or remote backups

very useful!

Small and usefull... Fits my needs of an easy desktop backup ! Thanks for your work

The GUI is too complex for the novice user, but otherwise does all that I need for it! Tis by far better than what is available in XP Pro.
