Hi
I can't install SilentOs , the live usb freezes a few seconds after booting into desktop. Can you help me ?
I made the live usb using Rufus in DD mode, tried legacy an UEFI, tried using amd, radeon, and the other modes, both plasma and xfce isos and still had the same issue
My specs are Core I5 3570, GTX 660, 8 gb ram hyperx and Gigabyte p75 d3 motherboard
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try again without DD mode. Or use another tool like Etcher.
I've tried. Tried with Rufus in iso mode, etcher, yumi...Tried with a different Setup (i7 4770 with gtx 1070) Tried with different pendrives, no luck. I tried an older version with xfce and managed to install Silent OS, but once I've updated the system and installed nvidia drivers I get a black screen with no Graphical interface.
This is an interesting situation. When you installed the nvidia drivers did you install just nvidia or the nvidia-390 drivers as i think your 660 works only with those? However, your 1070 should be fine with the newer nvidia drivers.
In your BIOS do have have integrated graphics turned OFF?
If you choose the first option at the USB Boot screen (ie no drivers) does it boot then?
Question: did you use the included script to update the driver database and install the nvidia drivers as shown:
Perform a full system upgrade, from the terminal:
pacupg
Reboot your system now!
Update the Driver ID Database
sudo nvidia-installer-update-db
Install the nVidia Drivers and Utilities
sudo nvidia-installer
Reboot your system now!
Configure the Drivers
sudo nvidia-settings
Set forcefullcompositionpipeline on all monitors
Under Opengl Settings turn off Sync to Vblank and Allow Flipping
Save to X Configuration File
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf
Overwriting the existing config file. If you like you can remove the backup file.
Reboot your system now!
If you get the blank screen try using left CTRL + ALT + F2 (or F1) to enter console mode. You can then uninstall the nvidia drivers.
Thanks for the support !
for the gtx 660 I used the 390 driver . I usually install the latest since i've never had any issues with it in distros like fedora, ubuntu, mint etc... But for this time I've used the recommended. For the 1070 I've used the nvidia option.
As for the integrated graphics, my 3rd gen mobo doesn't support integrated graphics, the 4th gen does, and its enabled by default
The first boot option ( no drivers ) makes it boot into plasma, and it freezes a few seconds while detecting things like internet connections. I've tried to boot without internet just to make sure though.
I've used the scripts you mentioned, it all install and upgrades fine. But after rebooting I get the black screen .
I use crtl+alt+F2 to change to tty , it wont let me update due to xrogproto (2019-2-2) breaks depency dxproto required bylibdx and xf86dgaproto
I can install nvidia drivers in tty, but if I chage back to DE it'll freeze the next second.

You need to perform these steps first: https://www.archlinux.org/news/xorg-cleanup-requires-manual-intervention/
pacman -Rdd libdmx libxxf86dga libxxf86misc && pacman -Syu
That will resolve xorgproto issue.
One more doubt: Can I install Salient OS wihout a DE ? Like, if I use ctrl+alt+f2 , is there a command to run the salient OS installer ? I think maybe I can bypass the freeze by installing it and then updating the Nvidia Driver.
I had a similar Issue with Fedora 31 kde spin, but I used the basic graphics mode to access the live usb and install , then I updated the system and installed nvidia drivers. I guess it's worth a try
Since plasma updated to 5.17 I've had this issues.
