Hello, Thank you very much for your answer and for the link to issue #356. Yes, my issue is indeed related to the missing libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 dependency on newer Debian releases (like Debian 13). The .deb package of OpenSong 3.4.8 can’t be configured anymore because these libraries were completely removed from the official repositories. It’s great to hear that you’re currently testing a new development version — that’s really encouraging! As a suggestion, once the new build is ready, it might be...

So, what happens when you start OpenSong now? Does it partially or completely start and then freeze (i.e. it does not respond to keyboard input and mouse clicks). Does it display any messages? Did you configure it to start up in Set mode? Did you configure it to automatically load the last Set and / or Song? What does the main window show when OpenSong is frozen I have not heard of any problem causing OpenSong to freeze. So I suppose you run some software on your system that misbehaves, or your system...

Hello, I’m encountering an issue on several Linux distributions, particularly Debian 13, where OpenSong is no longer working correctly. This is due to the use of outdated dependencies that have been removed in recent versions of these Linux distributions. As a result, the application can no longer launch or function properly. The problem seems to stem from OpenSong relying on libraries that are no longer available in the repositories of recent Linux versions. This kind of incompatibility is becoming...

Hi check out the Print Settings. If you open them from the main menu, they have global scope. If you open them from the print preview window, they apply until you close that window. Don't confuse the Print Settings with the Page Setup. You can specify the fonts used for all the different elements of a printed page including typeface, size, color and style. You can define spacing between elements of the page. For line spacing I suggest you try lyrics after.

Fix #361. On macOS 26 (Tahoe), App.Activate was being called before App.Open had run to completion. Add a flag in App.Open to indicate when the initialization in App.Open is completed and the MainWindow is about to be shown. Check this flag at the start of App.Activate and exit if initialization is not complete.

    Unhandled Exception Erro

  • Ed Palmer Ed Palmer posted a comment on ticket #361

Issue is confirmed and reproducible on macOS 26.0 Beta (25A5346a) running in a Parallels VM. App.Activate is getting called before App.Open has completed. This means that on entry to App.Activate the first time, DebugWriter has not been initialized and is Nil, causing the NilObjectException. More research is needed to determine the best option to avoid the race condition. Until I can fix this and post a new build, OpenSong should not be run on macOS 26 (Tahoe).

Thanks for the update! I’ll keep an eye on #356 and will be happy to test any new package for Debian 13 when it’s available.

  • Ed Palmer Ed Palmer posted a comment on ticket #361

Interesting. The stack trace points to a routine (App.Activate) that has not had a reported issue before to the best of my knowledge. The error is a NilObjectException, usually caused by an internal object not being initialized. The code could use some additional error checking, but that would only help identify which object isn't initialized and not why it isn't initialized. I do not have a system running the macOS 26 beta to test; my two Apple Silicon Macs are production systems that need to stay...

Hi, changing the document folder in general settings alone will not lead to OpenSong not starting anymore. If you specified some folder that does not contain the files and folders OpenSong is expecting there, OpenSong will try to create the folders and ask you if you want to copy defaults there. If anything goes wrong with this, OpenSong is designed to show an error message that should give you a clue (or at least give us, the developers a clue). So, please provide some information about what is...

  • SvA SvA posted a comment on ticket #361

Hi, thanks for reporting. According to my understanding of our code, this error from this location in the code should not be possible. You could help us to figure out what is happening by doing the following: locate the file preferences.plist that holds settings for OpenSong. According to the documentation this should be in /Users/UserName/Library/Preferences (which I find hard to believe, because the filename is so generic and the path is not application specific; maybe some mac user can help?)....

Hi, another thing I found that improoves OpenSong a lot: In Mint22 I can do a right click to the starter and check there the option "use GPU if available" (sorry, I use the german version and translated it back to english). This improves the speed to a pretty good level. No other alternative program to OpenSong has a compareable great user interface. I really don't want to switch. With CCLI support and this deb-fix this would be the greatest tool I could image. Thanks Marte
