Joined File Plays Audio Only in VLC

Two smaller MP4 files play correctly in VLC Media Player. When combined n Joiner, the larger MP4 plays only the audio track with no video. Using Tools > Preferences in VLC to switch the Video Output from Automatic to Direct3D11, OpenGL, or DirectX had no effect. VLC and video drivers are up to date (5/19/20).
UPDATE: Still not sure what causes the problem, but I found a workaround. If you go into Joiner's Options menu and select "re-encode" for audio and video before combining files, it takes longer to process the combination but the output file has a better chance of running properly. (5/21/20)
