    Gilgongo - 2021-02-19

    Hi All!

As of March 1st, 2021 we will be encouraging everyone to use one of three main forums:

GitHub Discussions - if you need technical support, have an idea or just want to contact the team.

GitHub Issues - for bug reports.

Facebook - where a number of community forums have arisen over the last year, as well as our official Facebook Group.

The reason for this decision is that while Jamulus is popular, the number of people able to monitor forums and offer advice is very limited. Having many duplicated discussions around the web dilutes those people's efforts, scatters good information about, and doesn't help the project in the long term.

We hope that concentrating activity into the three areas above will help us all serve the distinct needs of the wider Jamulus community: technical, creative and social.

And thank you for all those who have posted here over the years. You have played your part well, and we very much hope you will do the same elsewhere!

    The Jamulus Team

That's a shame. Not everyone uses (or wants to use) Facebook. Like me. Bye!

You don't have to use Facebook to use Github.

I think it would be great to have a "musician" section on github too. Personally, I also dislike Facebook!

Hi Rachel - while of course some people don't like Facebook for various reasons, it is for better or worse the main social platform we have. An attempt 10 months ago to create "musician" sections here on SourceForge only attracted about 30 threads in total over that time compared to hundreds on FB. But even if it had done better, fragmentation of the community is also not good in the long term. BTW we chose GH Discussions for support queries because they have tools useful in managing those discussions with our code base, which FB doesn't have.

Please also bear in mind that the Jamulus admins gain a lot of information about how to improve Jamulus by participating in discussions about it. Having to monitor multiple platforms to do that works against the project. In fact we currently have 12 platforms producing such information, so would like to get that number down.
