I'll reset these to your suggestions and set makegraphs.pl back to normal timing and see if I am still getting problems. Bob |

Also I am not running all available services, IPsec, OpenVPN Server and URL Filter are stopped. Significantly this system has run faultlessly for 4 years in this configuration with 1.9 and 2.0 versions, and is only showing problems since the 2.1 upgrade. This does seem to be a peak loading problem which would seem to have increased with the latest release of software. Bob |

Base system, running services and large logfiles (you have not written so, but I expect you to run a flash installation), all compete for 256 MiB. Olaf |

Hi there, On Tue, 29 Apr 2014, Olaf Westrik wrote: > Requirements vary (greatly!) depending on activated services. > > Which scripts are terminating ... ? I never run the 'makegraphs' scripts. For a decade I've had IPCop running on old machines with 64Mbytes of RAM. Some older machines even had only 32Mbytes, but they've long since gone to that bit-bucket in the sky. There's no reason to throw out those old machines while they can still economically perform a useful task. The more bloat there is, the more security holes there will be in it. -- 73, Ged. |

Since the 2.1 upgrade I have been experiencing numerous script terminations (exit status: 1) and segfaults which I haven't seen when running the previous 1.9 and 2.0 versions (over the last 4 years). It would appear that the 256 MB of available memory with the Alix board is now insufficient to meet the peak loading of the currently released 2.1 versions when the scheduled scripts run at 5 minute intervals. To mitigate the problem I have tried (with some success) to stagger the time when the various scripts are started (eg running makegraphs.pl 1 minute later by editing fcrontab). Could the developers have a look at the peak loading requirements with the latest version of IPCop when running on memory challenged systems like the Alix as I think it would be shame to see that it was no longer suitable for running IPCop. For those feeling courageous and lucky, 2.1.5-rc1 installation and update files are available on SourceForge. The 2.1.5-rc1 update requires a 2.1.4 installation and can only be manually updated via the GUI! *** 2.1.5-rc1 is for testing purposes and cannot be updated to 2.1.5. *** When testing the installation and or update, make sure to have uptodate and working backups to be able to return to 2.1.4.
