That should not. But it appear this is my mistake. I write the code to do that and commit rev1.2.2.7. But this part disappear when I cancel some previous code changes in 1.2.2.8 Will be fixed on 1.4.16 Gilles |

I recently took a backup from 1.4.10 and restored it to a 1.4.15installation. I ran into a few problems that I thought you might want to be aware of. 1. I had to manually encrypt the key so the backup could be used. Not a problem for me. 2. The 1.4.15 installation does NOT create a "backup" account when using an old (prior to 1.4.11) backup file. 3. Login as root and edit /var/ipcop/ethernet/settings Change eth0 and eth1 drivers to match new box. 4. Add "backup:x:107:107::/var/empty:/bin/false" to passwd file 5. Add "backup:x:13093:0:99999:7:::" to shadow file (change numbers to match other entries in this file) 6. Run setup and set the "backup" password. 7. Run "/usr/local/bin/httpscert new" (to create a new matching certificate) Did I miss anything? No other problems noted to date. Rick Mobley Consulting |

The trouble here is that pppoe doesn't really fit into either category cleanly. It both requires an ethernet card and dialup settings, whereas every other connection type requires one or the other. I can't really see how we'd do what you ask without showing the modem options page to people with red set as static/dhcp ethernet. That seems like it'd be pretty confusing to most people too. Really so long as you understand that anything that requires changing the type of connection on red means using setup there's not much of an issue here. It may take a few seconds to remember, but it's something that is done really rarely anyway, and it is covered in the documentation. > Moving anything from the setup menus that do not impact the network > interfaces to drop the web interface to the web interface would be > appreciated. But the above is really too > well hidden to be left where it is. There is an effort to move things this way in the next version. However, it's not as easy as you suggest. The problem here is that you can't guarantee that configuring red won't drop the network on green in all situations. If you're going from red is modem to red is ethernet for example you need to add a new NIC, and if that NIC shares the same chipset as an existing NIC then setting up the driver for the new NIC may influence (re-configure, reload, etc) the driver for a pre-existing NIC too. -- Robert Kerr |

Would it be possible for the pppoe "modem" configuration be moved to the place that modems are otherwise dealt with on the web page for modems? I find that the trick of remembering that pppoe is a variation of the RED setup configuration to be a less than intuitive spot to look for this setting. Moving anything from the setup menus that do not impact the network interfaces to drop the web interface to the web interface would be appreciated. Ideally one could acccess IPcop thru the green interface and configure the RED, or vice versa and even with network recycling still be able to continue via the web pages. But the above is really too well hidden to be left where it is. Jim |

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: absolute zero (absolute-zero) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: IPCop as Xen guest Initial Comment: It would be nice to have support for Xen included in the IPCop kernel. Some information on how to possibly accomplish this is available from http://www.pug.org/images/d/dd/Tutorial_IPCop-auf-xen.pdf Unfortunately this is pretty outdated, but may still be useful. It would be nice to have it in the stock IPCop distribution though, especially for updates and security fixes. There are many usage scenarios where one could use this: - many "old" computers nowadays are fast enough to run at least one virtual machine (but don't have virtualization extensions in their processors yet), so one could set up a server and for the sake of easier configuration and security run IPCop in a virtual machine as a router/firewall and only run services not provided by IPCop on the host/in another virtual machine. - instead of having a designated server, one of the Linux machines in the network could run IPCop in a virtual machine to act as a router/firewall for the network or even only for the machine itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=428519&aid=1706170&group_id=40604 |

Hi, I noticed this is the second time this question has popped up . Answer anybody................ Thanks Geo =2D--------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: [IPCop-user] IPCop Real Time Clock Driver... Date: Sunday 22 April 2007 09:30 =46rom: Peter Lindstr=F6m <pet...@br...> To: ipc...@li... Hi, I have an issue with installing the IPCop on a particular mainboard. The installation CD boot will start but the execution halts when reaching the line: "Real Time Clock Driver v1.10f" I have tested this mainboard with the XUbuntu 6.10 (Alternative), which wor= ks fine all the way with both installation and operation. I did notice that t= he XUbuntu uses another version of the driver, which displays as: "Real Time Clock Driver v1.12" As I suspect this could be the reason behind the halted execution boot, I would like to try to change the IPCop v1.10f RTC driver into the XUbuntu v1.12 driver. So my question is: =2DWhat is the name of the binary file that contains the Real Time Clock Dr= iver (v1.10f) during IPCop Installation CD Boot? Anyone? Hi, Are there any plans to upgrade the Modem Drivers list? Today I use a Zyxel 630-11 ADSL modem, but that is no longer in production from the manufactorer. I just bought a new breed of the Zyxel modem, called Prestige 630-C1. The drivers for 630-11 does not work for this one. The circuit inside is named: Conexant Accessrunner CX82320-25 I've a driver project for this though, at this link: http://accessrunner.sourceforge.net/modems.shtml Is there any chanse that IPCop will adopt this new driver as well? The problem with that solution is that it doesn't work with some (prevelant) versions of IE. It doesn't require code - just have a link like so <a href="http://logout:pas...@ww.../logout/">Logout</a> authenticates to the /logout directory. On Mozilla based browsers this will clear the previous authentication cache for the domain however it wont work on IE so it's not much of a solution. It worked well.</P> <P>I'm interested to do a software for Windows plataform, to admin the IPCOP box, in order to do the following things: Reboot, Shutdown, Connect, Disconnect, Show Connection Status. I don't want to use the web interface, 'cause it let the user to admin the complete box parameters. I just want the user do the things I've listed before. I try to do it using a ssh console connection, I cant reboot, and shutdown, but can't connect or disconnect succesfully. I realize that can know when ppp establish a connection (or not), 'cause it creates an "active" file in /var/ipcop/red. I want to know when ppp is "dialing" and don't know how to do that. To connect I use the /etc/rc.d/rc.red file, then I pass the start, stop or clean parameters. The issue I found is when I do rc.red stop, sometimes it works, but sometimes don't, I realize that executes rc.connectioncheck but it never ends. I don't know how to ressolve this and haven't found info in Internet to this problems...</P> <P>I will appreciate your assistance. Thanks a lot!
(didn't read the title)

Yes, i know that ugly effect when pressing "back" in older versions ;-)

Hm, currently in can press "reload" that "splash screen" as often as i like:
Nothing worse happens.

I'll know it ;-)
"Connection refused"
tells me.

No, Mozilla only show a popup.

I assume 1.4.13 as it wa during an bigger update (10->15)
I'll try 1.4.15 to see what happens.
>This is not simple to do "IPcop has been rebooted, please continue".
I assumed that it would not be easy.

Hm. There must be an easier way.
See for example the "firmware update" page in
http://freifunk.net/wiki/FreifunkFirmwareEnglish
It dowlaods a new falsh image, burns it, reboots and shows
all phases in the web interface.

Maybe the trick might be (i'm no HTTP expert) to redirect the user to a login screen where the user is forced to fill in form with user an password. As long as he didn't do that all HTTP requests end's on that page. But i second tahtthis would be no realgood solution. >> IMOH it could be easily(?) implemented by adding a button which >> simply sends an intentionally wrong password.
