I followed your guide from another thread and it works, thanks!
Thanks Xarion! I was following the wiki on how to record impulse responses and which said to trim the tail, but I guess I misunderstood on how much to trim it. This definitely explains why my impulse responses looked vastly different than other ones which I have compared it to! I still have the original recordings so I will most likely try re-editing the recordings from scratch. Will report on how it goes.
I mean the newest software, VB-Audio Matrix, not VB-Audio Cable. Matrix has built-in routing of audio stream to the various Windows audio devices (ASIO, WDM WASAPI, MME ) so you don't need to use any third-party software to route audio from Matrix virtual audio device to your physical USB DAC.

Do you mean the vb cable mentioned in the wiki? I've already installed it but i fear it may cause some audio delay because the latency bar in the bottom left of the kernel streaming menu often goes yellow or red and i thought using the interal soundcard could have avoided this audio delay.
Hello, Adam Jensen, If you want to use HeSuVi with your external USB DAC, I think it will be much better to install VB-Audio Matrix and use its virtual 7.1-audio device instead of motherboard integrated Realtek 7.1-audio and kernel streaming.
Hello, i want to use Hesuvi with my external usb dac\amplifier, my motherboard has 7.1 Realtek ALC892/ALC897 integrated soundcard, i've installed the drivers for windows 11 but i can't configure the 7.1 output because the option "configure" is greyed out. I've read in the wiki that i can copy the audio of this unused soundcard to my stereo output via kernel streaming but i don't know how to do it since i cannot even configure the soundcard to 7.1. Anybody can help me?
Hello, Aaron Harrington, When you are cutting out IR too short you are erasing reverb, echo, fade out and all other similar effects that need time after main peak impulse. Your AppleSpatial HeSuVi HRIR time is 2 ms only, but for reverb to take effect you need about 100-200 ms. If original spatial engine has reverb effect then just don't cut it out from the IR recording :)
Hey 3DJ, Can you explain exactly how you were able to fix the reverb issue with the original recording? I've recorded my personalized spatial audio BRIR a few times now and i'm pretty sure I got the recording and editing correct, but I have the reverb issue like what was presented in your original recording and fixed in this one. In addition, I have the same speaker separation issue (front speakers are two close together) as your original recording, but again, fixed in this one. Other than that,...
Thank you so much, buddy. I will try and get this done when I get some time. So stay tuned :)
It's all simple if you are familiar with audio recording and editing :) You need to connect headphone output of the receiver to the recording input of your PC audio device. Usually it is audio line input, so you have to check input level from headphone output of the reciever for not to harm your input audio device. Next, enable Concert Hall effect on your reciever, play Dirac Delta stereo wav from your PC through the reciever and record this stereo impulse using some recording software (Audacity,...
Hi Xarion and thanks for your reply. if it's not too much trouble, can you explain exactly how I would go about doing this? i'm not even sure what you mean by stereo impulse response.
You can try to record stereo impulse response from headphone output of the RX-V493 with Concert Hall effect enabled. I think it could work.
Hi guys. I am not an engineer and don't plan on doing any sort of mastering or music manipulation. The reason for my inquiry is because I'm a serious music listener and someone that likes to listen to my music with a slight, reverb-y "concert hall" type of effect. Has anyone ever owned one of the vintage Yamaha HT receivers from circa 1998-2000? Well, if you have you'll remember that one of their early models, the RX-V493 has a few built in DSP effects. One of which is Concert Hall. This particular...
There is not a lot of data on the Dirac Virtuoso spatialization offered by Dirac on a select few products, such as the Monolith Headphone Amplifier by Monoprice. Would someone that owns this device be able to upload a HeSuVi BRIR recording? I didn’t look in the Binaural Database so I may have missed something. Thanks.
How do you do this? Do you edit the raw DIRAC file or do you load the separate channels into a spatial plugin?
This is the HeSuVi matrix for upmixing stereo to 7.1: Copy: L=0.5L R=0.5R C=0.2L+0.2R SUB=0.0 RL=0.3L+-0.2R RR=-0.2L+0.3R SL=0.45L+-0.25R SR=-0.25L+0.45R Please notice that subwoofer will be silent so it is 7.0 actually. This matrix will be active when you set on "Stereo" in the "Upmix Content" of HeSuVi control panel. For listening audio on an actual 7.1-loudspeakers setup you have to set connections to Raw Front, Raw Side, Raw Ctr/Sbw and Raw Back. It does not matter what HRIR is selected in this...
As I understand, you want to use HeSuVi config to upmix stereo audio to 7.1 and then to listen it on the 7.1-loudspeakers system. I think it is not possible on the default HeSuVi config. As 3 DJ wrote here https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/discussion/general/thread/3b9a086bd4/#ec3d "HeSuVi's Stereo upmix requires an HRIR to virtualize the 7.1 surround mix extracted from the stereo signal" The problem here is the virtualization output is stereo only itself. When you activate it, you will be able to play the song through the side and rear channels, so it is necessary to assign the hesuvi input and leave it on none to prevent it from interrupting any hrir, since the hrir are recorded only for the headphones. To make it easier to understand, HRIR virtualizes the stereo channel so that when you play a video game in 7.1, the 3D sound works according to the profile in the headphones. When you play it on 7.1 speakers, unfortunately, using HRIR damages the...
like this
One very important thing: if you want to play music, logically you will only use the front speakers (Left and Right), and when you want to virtualize so that multiple speakers can be captured, you must also leave it on “none” and activate Matrix Upmix and check only stereo.
Like this
Watching the video, it looks like you're using a hrir, and what you need to do is go into the hrir and set it to “none.”
If you use speakers directly, I couldn't tell you exactly how to operate them, since Hesuvi is generally designed for headphones. But in any case, you must assign the input for the speakers you have.
Didn't make any difference
I can't do that. That breaks all my audio
Why would I be using inputs? I'm "outputting" sound to my speakers
I recommend that you download VB - Audio Virtual Cable and follow the steps in the wiki. https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/wiki/Help/#vb-cable
Another important thing is that you must select the “Virtualization” option in ‘Connection’ and also uncheck the two options in “On/Off” that disable the virtualizer.
Also check in “Additional” that the audio inputs compatible with 7.1 are enabled.
Good afternoon, Courtney Celeste Allen. The error you are experiencing may be caused by several factors. First, verify that “content format” is set to “Automatic” and uncheck the matrix upmix.
Good afternoon, Diego Jiménez. I was analyzing the recordings, and they were good, but... It seems that you added an additional channel, which caused it to be heard much more on the right, thereby reducing the effect and losing the indicated DSP. What I did was correct the recording, changing it to 7 channels (instead of 14) and checking whether the channels were aligned or not. Fortunately, the channels were perfectly synchronized. So, I am sharing with you the two recordings from the speakers,...
And you can try using upmixes (which was not possible before due to the Hass effect caused by the delay), and now you can do so without any problems.
I just fixed everything I could with both hrir. I aligned all the channels and corrected the bass, now it sounds perfect (in my opinion) and I hope I have cleared up any doubts about it.
Heya so I downloaded this plugin so that I can listen to my stereo sources like Spotify and youtube using all the speakers in my 7.1 setup, but when I listen to actual 7.1 content or play games mixed in 7.1, having this plugin enabled breaks the surround sound and the side and rear speakers don't work correctly. This makes it so I have to keep disabling this plugin every time I want to play a game or watch 7.1 content and re-enable it when I want to listen to music in multi stereo. Is there a way...
Sorry for double post, tried to reply directly to Crazy Rabbit message.
It worked, thank you very much and really sorry for the extremely late reply. Just had to set physical device volume to maximum and then I could control the virtual device volume from Windows. I think I'll buy a license because this is a very neat software and to support the developer.

Hi all, I just tried HeSuVi, very interesting software. But to choose between various virtualisers, the sound test was not convincing and music is not allways the best tool, so I prepared an 8 channel test file with a pink noise moving quickly between the 8 channels. Here it is : https://www.loudspeakers.audio/wp-content/downloads/test_surround.ogg You can just replace the actual test file and listen to various HRIR : I found that some are wrong (ie bad channel orders or missing channel) and some...
Follow this guide so you can simulate your headphones to be a 7.1 surround output device- https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/wiki/Help/#installation Basically use a virtual cable that can be configured as a 7.1 device. Use softwares like Voicemeeter, VB Cable, Hi Fi cable, etc...
Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to purchase Redcap when it was still publicly available for sale, but I always heard it was quite good. Can someone who owns it record an impulse response for it? Or is there already one available that I have not found? Honestly, I would still pay full price and give up the expectation of support, it’s too bad the dev doesn’t make an option like that available, or just release it for free. As it is now it isn’t helping anyone, he doesn’t get any income and...

Got it. I managed to find something that suits me as well. The EAC_DEFAULT hrir
I think it's all individual. For me SBX is the best for neutral tonality. The lower surround effect the better. For example SBX17 sounds very close to the original audio but still has audible surround effect. Usually I use my own recorded and edited (slightly equalized) SBX40 and don't use any higher than 40. Another very important part is your headphones. I prefer HP with almost flat frequency response so it will be less mess when using HRIRs. And of course, you can use equalizer with HRIR you ...
You're bang on the money! I liked SADIE_D02. It sounded great! SADIE_D01 sounded a bit better for me though. The EAC_Default one wasn't too bad either. I'll cycle between these and figure out which one suits me the best. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Btw are there any completely neutral hrirs that don't mess with the tonality?
If you like oal_dflt, try playing with SADIE_D02 from 3DJ database: https://airtable.com/appayGNkn3nSuXkaz/shruimhjdSakUPg2m/tbloLjoZKWJDnLtTc Both oal dflt and SADIE_D02 uses KEMAR dummy head which good for a lot of people. The tonality of SADIE actually sounds way better for me, so i thought it could be the same for you!
Got it. Do you have any recommendations though if i wanna use hesuvi for virtual surround? I lowkey liked the oal_dflt.wav for directionality. It felt even better than dolby, but the freq changes that came along with it didn't sit right with my ears. I liked some irc ones from more hrirs too for directionality, but they gave me a vertigo kinda feeling. Probably cuz they're made for specific individual ears. I'm guessing irc hrir is a lost cause for that same reason. But should i be changing the equalization...
I think DA HRIRs by Danil Timulib are good enough and there is nothing to update. I myself prefer Creative SBX for virtual surround audio so I don't use DA.
Glad to see you're still active even after 2 years Xarion99. I'm just now getting into this nitty gritty stuff. As I was searching for updated dolby hrirs i stumbled onto this thread https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/discussion/general/thread/b2d12b70df/?page=1#3b68 Where this kind gentleman updated the dolby hrir and i started using his game profile. I think it's better than the original one from the hesuvi database. I am completely out of my depth in this subject however, so i would like your opinion...
Unfortunately, these HRIR recordings have some obvious issues (some channels with strong reverb, others with no reverb), maybe because of misplaced channels in .wav or incorrect recording itself.
Is the dolby headphone virtualization from the dolby access game profile?
HI I setup 2xkrk for beringer UMC 22 and again 2xkrk rokit to UMC 22 Year ago i build bridge with voicemeeter beaceuse havent sound from 2x beringer the same time Yesterday i download HESUVI what better refference for KRK ROKIT 2 front ROKIT7 and 2 back ROKIT 5 ? I waiting for new card with 4 bigjacks but how i can maximalize sound performence for this machines :D
Nice!

I did not make any special testing about exclusive/non-exclusive mode of audio devices for HeSuVi (EqAPO). I just leave default Windows (Windows 10) settings - "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and "Give exclusive mode applications priority" are both ON for the virtual and physical audio devices. VB-Audio Matrix (SFX/MFX) is my favorite software for virtual devices. All works good with such settings - games, foobar2000, Youtube in Firefox browser, media players (like VLC,...

I have to say I find it fascinating that you own a device that can do IMO the best headphone surround (Super XFi) by far directly in hardware, and SBX if you for some reason prefer the slightly different approach to headphone surround, and yet you prefer to use the useless Atmos for headphones and HeSuVi for games. Not that there's anything wrong with HeSuVi per se, but I see it as a workaround with its own quirks and issues for when you want to use a device that can't give you a built-in headphone...
Do we need to have HeusVi working 7.1 properly? for the Sound card Speakers? Should I disable the Mic Exclusive mode also? I have Creative X4, I don't have the drivers installed, it's just the generic USB2 microsoft drivers and it works fine, I don't need any of the SBX or other options. I use VoiceMeeter to split the sound as I switch between ATMOS for netflix and HeusVi for games. Do I need to have Exclusive on Speakers only and turn it off for the Virtual Voicemeeter devices? Do I need to have...
Can we use this for games and movies or what is it for?

Does anyone have any settings for the FiiO FT1?
On my part, the problem solved itself because the licence of DTS X has been refreshed and is now working again so no more problem for 7.1 with my GoXLR. Thanks for Xarion99 for your reply !
As I see, you are trying to use HeSuVi directly with your stereo audio device. For proper 7.1 virtualization HeSuVi requires 7.1 audio device in Windows. It can be software audio device like VB-Audio Hi-Fi Cable/ASIO Bridge, VB-Audio Matrix or some other similar software. You have to install Equalizer APO/HeSuVi on this audio device for processing 7.1 audio stream into the binaural stereo audio stream. Then stereo audio stream can be redirected to your stereo device (GoXLR). If you are using some...
So yeah as you can probably tell : i'm lost ! :D Thanks for any help you could give me !
I've tried to use without any spatialization on windows (Windows Sonic disabled) but the sound becomes flat. I can't tell if a sound comes from the back of the front... But it works with Windows Sonic enabled... but then I guess it must bypass any enhancements HeSuVi can give me... And the sound in game is far from what it was with DTS X.
I now add some screenshots of the differents panels, system and HeSuVi :

Hi ! I'm a gamer who enjoys a good virtualisation because I use a K702 headphones and it's only stereo. I also possess a GoXLR from TC Helicon and I like to listen to some music. GoXLR doesn't have any equalizer, so I found Equalizer APO and use it for some times now without any issues. But I recently had a problem with the licence of my DTS:X Headphone app (DTS Unbound) on Windows 11 and I wanted to look for an open source/freeware solution. And after a quick search I found HeSuVi which is compatible...
Great! Thanks! I'll try! Your preset ae-5_sbx40pn++B sounds very cool and I use it for games. I wanted to listen to the presets in SBX more for movies with a VR helmet for a more realistic cinema sound. I'm thinking about buying a Sound BlasterX G6. Is it worth doing this when Hesuvi is available :-) I'm currently using the Lexicon Alpha usb sound card.
Here are these Gaming, Cinema and Concert profiles as is, with no any editing and equalizer presets. I myself don't like all these fancy profiles because of their heavy bass boost. These are settings of the profiles: Gaming: Surround 67 Crystalizer 30 Bass 10 Smart Vol 74 Cinema: Surround 67 Crystalizer 55 Bass 20 Smart Vol 74 Concert: Surround 67 Crystalizer 50 Bass 40 Smart Vol 60 All attached WAVs are HeSuVi format HRIRs.
Good afternoon, could you tell me what the disadvantages and advantages of the two types of connection are. 1. VB-CABLE "listen to" 2. VB-Audio Matrix Is there more delay in the first case? Is the sound quality about the same? But at what level is the delay in the case of the VB-Audio Matrix, if you look at this table? https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/wiki/Audio%20Latency%20Measurements/

Hi ! Can you make the same presets for Hesuvi with Sound Blaster Command processing? I would be grateful. It is very interesting to try SBX Profile Sound Blaster Command for Gaming, Cinema and Concert. Or just record these SBX Profile Sound Blaster Commands as a stereo file. I would try to make presets for Hesuvi myself.

Thank you very much for the guide, worked great with my FiiO K1 DAC. Like you said, CPU usage was indeed very low, only 0,1% on a Ryzen 5 5600. Nevertheless I noticed that the virtual audio device doesn't respond to volume changes, as audio stream is routed to the physical device. I need to set K1 as default output device first and then lower/raise volume for the virtual one to reflect the change. Is there any way to make the virtual device react to volume changes, or is it an inherent limitation...
