Hello,
Just compiled kernel 2.4.2 with USB support built
into it. when i load the 8139too module, the nic
works and everything works fine, but the kernel keeps
giving out these messages:
>kernel: uhci: host controller halted. very bad
>kernel: uhci: host controller halted. very bad
>kernel: uhci: host controller halted. very bad
>kernel: uhci: host controller halted. very bad
Any pointers or information would be helpful, if
anyone has encountered this problem.
Thanks.

Unfortunately this is not an 8139too problem, but rather a
problem with (a) BIOS, (b) kernel USB driver, or (c) kernel
    motherboard support.

I recommend updating to the latest BIOS for your computer,
and upgrading your kernel to the latest Alan Cox series to
patches to the 2.4.5 kernel. (his patches include necessary
    fixes)
