Hi Jindrich,
There is an additional problem - AFAIK, ati.2 never supported
the combination of old mach64+addon properly. (Rage Pro+addon probably
worked).
Try using really old xatitv code and find out where the bug is. I
never had any luck trying to debug it remotely (i.e.. someone else with
the hardware running the test code).
Everything seemed to indicate that the code is right and does what we
think it is supposed to do, but i2c bus is non-functional.
Perhaps there is an obvious bug that I overlooked.

I downloaded gatos from cvs yesterday, compiled against X 4.3.0 and got no xv capabilities detected. > Jindrich, you get some output of xvinfo? As I said earlier, my output is either "no adaptor" or just anything if I modify the driver source. The problem is that I do not know specs of the card. Unfortunately, I do not know much of C either. However I was able to get scaling "working". To understand better what I mean: I have video window that can go fulscreen etc. The negative side of the thing is that the image inside is wrong - moving vertical lines or something like that. But: It is not just black and the lines are different for different mpegs. The driver you have is maybe better start for experiments as it knows something more about the card. Well, it lies (a bit?), since maximum XvImage size: 384 x 2048 is most probably wrong. The scaler in Mach64VT cannot do that much, it can scale something like 380x240. Maybe it is 384x240 (according to your xvinfo output). My version of gatos contains nothing small like this. So again, where comes your driver from? Jindrich |

Hello all, I have a HW setup as indicated in the subject and I cannot get Xvideo and/or TV working. I know the 264VT video card is very old, but it works (with TV) in windows. I have found the following post to this list (April 20, 2003) by Vladimir Dergachev: > I do not believe 264VT is Xvideo capable. > > I.e. these Mach 264VT adaptors do not have the hardware to support > overlay. Well, the card has not enough capabilities to do overlays in DVD resolution, but (just) enough power to scale the TV signal comming from tuner card (obviously, because windows drivers/SW can use it). So, I am comming to my question: Is it possible to enable Xvideo for 264VT for TV to work? I tried to modify ati.2/atixv.c as suggested above with not much of success - xvinfo finds a video overlay, but that's all, no usable image with avview, mplayer, etc. Thanks for any help. Hi
Do you know if the following is a common behaviour? If this is unusual
maybe that's the reason of the problem with Federico's TVout that
flickers on laptops with M7?
I am trying to set up the dual head (clone mode) for radeon 7500 laptop
version (M7), standard FC3 distribution. My CRT isconnected to PAL TV
(external VGA/CVBS converter). If I use the LCD only or CRT only or both
but NOT in clone mode (separate Screens in ServerLayout in xorg.conf),
then evrything works fine. The PAL data I use is:
HorizSync 15.625
VertRefresh 50.0
Modeline "736x575i" 14.16 736 760 824 904 575 580 585 625 interlace
-HSync -VSync
Now, the problem is when I want to use a clone mode (then only one
Screen section). The config changes to:
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,CRT"
Option "MergedFB" "true"
Option "CloneMode" "736x575i"
Option "CRT2Position" "Clone"
Option "CRT2HSync" "15.625"
Option "CRT2VRefresh" "50.0"
Modeline "736x575i" 14.16 736 760 824 904 575 580 585 625 interlace
-HSync -VSync
In this case LCD picture is fine but TV over CRT shows two (almost)
identical pictures split by the horizontal black bar in the middle of
the screen. I am pretty close to say that those two pictures comes from
odd and even lines of one picture. The LCD is primary and it does not
use an interlaced mode, CRT is secondary (clone) and its modeline says
to use the interlacing. Thus it looks like the interlacing required by
the modeline is omited somehow or not used properly if cooperates as
cloned with non-interlaced primary display.
Do you have any ideas how to fix it? I am not sure if I can use
non-interlaced mode for PAL tv.
Regards,
Przemek

Hi all just upgraded my mandrake box to 10.1. In a repository I found xorg-x11 "6.8.2" (actually is 6.8.1.99); it already had gatos multimedia drivers in the modules/multimedia directory, but didn't detect any peripheral on the i2c bus (didn't even try to), so I tried to use Martin's 6.8.1 binaries instead (thank you, Martin). Martin's binaries seem to work just fine, but I don't think I made a nice choice by mixing versions; I'll try to keep this configuration hoping it will show stable enough. I'm wondering why during this transition there are no more updated binaries available on the gatos sf page, as it was in the past for each release of XFree86. As binaries still are the shorter way to make our cards working (the full xorg recompilation process requires much time, and the sources available for the main distros are often patched), I'd suggest to write some clear instructions on the gatos' homepage explaining which binary is suited for which xorg release. Hi Folks, I wonder if anyone else out there , has tried to use /dev/dhahelper for a 2.6 kernel. The reason I ask, is I am trying to play HDTV streams (mpegpes codec, mplayer says), and its native resolution is 1920x1088 and hence I could really do with some assistance with scaling the video. The pcHDTV folks say a 2G athlon (which I have its an XP2400 ) should be sufficient, but frame dropping isrequired to get this working at any resolution. My card is a Radeon AIW 32MB (QD chip). Is dhahelper a substitute for DGA, or DRI in some way? I understand it just sends data from user -> kernel space, but since I have no idea wether this will help with decoding/scaling, I am wondering wether or not to perservere and write a 2.6 driver. Some direction in these murky waters would be appreciated, including wether a new card is required....;-) Regards PHiL |

Finally, I've got my drivers work, but I don't know how. In my tests I tried to load X as usual user, and it didn't start. When I tried to do it as root, it started and after that started for user too. That's it, it works. I can attach log file, if somebody interested in it. BTW, when I load km drivers, after several seconds my box simultaneously reboots. Who discovered the similar behaviour and has some recepies? I tested drivers, making everything as you described on FC3 for Radeon7500 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV200 QW [Radeon7500], but I've got only black display, mouse and keyboard became frozen and I had to restart my comp with backuped old drivers from x.org packet. Does anybody have successful experience with a similar card and drivers? Reagard, Yarema |

Hi! I have ATI Rage 128 AGP + ATI TV ISA Tuner. So, I have my tuner working almost perfectly, except one thing. I can't adjust volume through AVView onscreen display. As I understood, for my hardware there is no ability to adjust volume, as it's unsupported. But, in Windows TV Viever Program change line input gain, to adjust volume. So may be I can some how modify AVView script to adjust not an ALSA tuner volume, but just line-in volume? Best regards, Dmitrij Afanasjev |

My main goal is to have TV input and it works fine with xawtv. I can't comment on 3-D, TV out, or any hardware acceleration. Carmine Yarema (Yarchyk) wrote: > I meant how does your builted drivers work for you? > |

Hello, sorry, I just realized that my Radeon does not offer dual head support at all. There is only one Monitor Connector. Sorry for bothering :-( Greetings Ben |

FWIW,
First off let me say that I let RHN update FC3, including X, to the
latest and greatest before building ati.4.4.0.
I couldn't simply build ati.4.4.0 from CVS for FC3. I had to do the
following.
-----------------------------------
Get CVS branch of ati.4.4.0 from Sourceforge
Download ati.4.4.0-xorg-6.8.patch
Make sure xorg-x11-sdk package is installed (rpm -q xorg-x11-sdk)
Patch ati.4.4.0
Put patch file in the directory containing the "ati.4.4.0" directory
from CVS and run patch -p0 ati.4.4.0-xorg-6.8.patch
I had to manually input the filenames for each update in the patch
since the patch file uses ati.4.4.0.orig instead of ati.4.4.0.
cd into ati.4.4.0
Run " imake -I/usr/X11R6/lib/Server/config/cf -
I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config -DTOPDIR=/usr/X11R6/lib/Server -DCURDIR=."
I couldn't simply use "xmkmf" like the README says because imake
couldn't find /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/host.def
Edit fi1236.c to comment out definition of MT2032_shutdown(FI1236Ptr)
with "#if 0" ... "#endif"
I got the following error before editing fi1236.c:
fi1236.c: At top level:
fi1236.c:371: error: conflicting types for 'MT2032_dump_status'
fi1236.c:170: error: previous implicit declaration of
'MT2032_dump_status' was here
Edit theatre.c to comment out call to DumpRageTheatreRegsByName(t); with
"#if 0" ... "#endif"
I got the following error before editing theatre.c:
theatre.c: At top level:
theatre.c:1949: error: conflicting types for
'DumpRageTheatreRegsByName'
theatre.c:84: error: previous implicit declaration of
'DumpRageTheatreRegsByName' was here
Become root
Run "make"
Run "make install"
------------------------------------
Is it expected that the "xmkmf" command would not work in FC3 with the
Imakefile from CVS?
Should the CVS code be updated to fix the compile errors with fi1236.c
and theatre.c?
Carmine
PS. I can't wait for this stuff to be part of the official Xorg release!

Hello, I would like to use my Radeon AIW (QD) for a dual head setup. Is this possible with the gatos drivers? ATI seems to offer no support for cards that old (come on its only 3 years). I have already googled without finding an answer. I appreciate all tips I can get regarding this issue, plese CC replies to my address as I am not on the list. The docs are available through a NDA with ATI. At least this was the situation half a year ago.
