Right now I'm running Xorg 6.8.2 with the ati-gatos 4.4.0 ebuild in gentoo. It's apparently an older version because it doesn't recognize everything on my card: ... Okay the cvs version works, and now I can clearly see my composite in, and hear it on my ATI AIW9000 pro. So good job Bogdan, it works well. Okay maybe it will get to the list this time I saw this and got quite excited, so I downloaded a tree, set it all up for my ati AIW 9000. Of course I knew that I probably wouldnt get optimal performance as my card isnt supported, however I want to take a crack at getting it to work properly again, and make some use out of this card. I got everything compiled(attached is my logfile), and everything seems to be fine. The problem I ran into is loading avview, it segfaults with this error start_avview.no[8986]: segfault at ffffffffff96076a rip 0000000000405795 rsp 0000007fbfffe350 error 4 and I have absolutely no idea what this means. Its been a while since I have fiddled with the gatos code, but since school is almost over, I will probably start playing with it again on my free time. Hello all. I have what I hope is a fairly simple problem and just need some advice on where to go from here. I have an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon (the first one, with no extra numbers at the end) inside a box running kernel 2.6.11 and X.org 6.8.2. I have successfully gotten DRM to work using the driver provided by X.org, and I have successfully gotten TV viewing to work using the ati.2 package. Now I am trying to get video capture to work. I have compiled and installed the kernel modules provided by the km package, using the latest CVS tree (downloaded on 4/25/2005). They load cleanly, and I see video devices appear under /dev/v4l, however, any attempt to access those devices results in a "no data available" message. A look at dmesg shows this: Kmultimedia API module version alpha-6.0 loaded Kmultimedia module version alpha-6.0 loaded Page size is 4096 sizeof(bm_list_descriptor)=16 sizeof(KM_STRUCT)=732 km: probing ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R100 QD [Radeon 7200] ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:01:00.0[A] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11 km: using irq 11 Register aperture is 0xf8400000 0x00080000 kms variables: reg_aperture=0xe0e80000 km: DMA_GUI_STATUS=0x00000002 entries=2 sizeof(kmfl_template)=780 sizeof(KM_FIELD)=52 Device ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R100 QD [Radeon 7200] 0000:01:00.0 (0x1002:0x5144) corresponds to /dev/video0 kms variables: reg_aperture=e0e80000 Processing "VIDEO_STREAM_ACTIVE"="1" int_value=1 Purging transfer queue WARNING ! Radeon memory controller is misconfigured, disabling capture WARNING ! upgrade your Xserver and DRM driver km: no data is available until AVview or xawtv is started This makes me suspect that I need a different DRM driver, since the web page for the GATOS drm-kernel package says that it is needed for both DRM and video capture to behave with each other. However, that code hasn't been updated literally in years, and I can't get it to compile at all. So, is it possible to get video capture with my current hardware/software configuration? If so, what do I need to do at this point? Thanks for any help. ---Kris Kelley |

AFAIK there are several r128 related patches to Xorg code made independently by several people (Bogdan and few others). I am also little bit lost and not sure on status of that code. For example if the tuner code is then compatible with the dri acceleration. I was playing with those codes in the early stage and build Xorg for myself (with partial success - no dri), but at the end I decided to wait till everything is merged into Xorg CVS. But can anybody update on the current status as I was not able to follow for last 2-3 months? -- Mr.Cookie mailto: mrc...@ce... Can't you release a diff against the current Xorg tree? FreeBSD's ports, for example, will then be able to offer a WITH_GATOS option. I'm getting a Radeon 9200 (PCI) this week and would like to build GATOS for my FreeBSD/amd64 machine. > And as for code already merged into X.org - there is no reason to > release separate source. > > And AVview source has always been available and relatively easy to > build. Deal? The reason is that it is not possible to compile drivers without entire X.org tree. Chances are by the time X.org switches to fully modular design all GATOS driver code would be merged. And as for code already merged into X.org - there is no reason to release separate source. And AVview source has always been available and relatively easy to build. Deal? -mi |

I was unable to get the Xorg cvs stuff to work with my 64 bit system and AIW Pro 8Mb (old card.) However, I think this *should* work - as Vladimir stated. Specifically, I run fc3 64bit and I tried the cvs code from xorg, avview, and km. This was about 3 weeks ago. In a nutshell, getting tv-in working may be at least a little more complicated than just using the latest CVS sources. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to get back at troubleshooting yet. You would need to compile the appropriate source code yourself. Keep in
mind that not all recent cards have been tested and some might not work..

Hello! Having given up on NVidia, I plan to buy a Radeon for my FreeBSD/amd64 system. I there a chance to get GATOS driver for it though? All, that's avaiable for download on SourceForge seems to be 32-bit :-( Thanks! -mi |

I always have problems with my ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro TV Tuner since I switched to Mandrake 10.0 which includes kernel 2.6. With Mandrake 10.1 and Fedora Core 3, I still cannot use my TV Tuner. XawTV, the application I am using to watch TV, tells me that there is no video grabber. I tried to install the ATI.2 binaries and nothing happens. With FC3, XawTV searches for a Video4Linux device and AVView quits immediately upon startup, no matter if the ATI.2 driver is installed or not. It simply seems that this driver does nothing under Linux with kernel 2.6 or XFree86 4.4/Xorg 6.7 or 6.8. I tried to look for a precompiled 2.4 kernel for Fedora Core 3, but it seems not to exist. My conclusion is that I did not understand the goal of the GATOS project. I thought it was intended to make working drivers for the ATI graphic cards, including TV in and TV out. Currently, this is not the case. So what does the GATOS projet do? Is the driver development discontinued? What can I do for my ATI card? Switch back to Windows and use that system only? I hate Windows, because it has no multi-desktop capabilities and becomes slower with time. It would be a real pain for me to change my graphic card, because I do not know which brand to choose. Matrox cards with TV Tuners are really too expansive. NVIDIA seems worse under Linux than ATI because it requires a closed-source driver which limits which kernel the user can use. I would like some clues about how to make my ATI Tuner card working under Linux, if that is at all possible with kernel 2.6. Thanks |

Hi, I don't really know how to do anything with CVS beyond what is listed on the basic instructions on SourceForge, and GATOS requires some sophistication to do meaningful checkouts, so I was wondering if you could help me out. I want to do a checkout of ati.2 w/ TV output of X.org X11-6.7.0. What do I need to put in to get that? Thanks, William |

Did you try the version from CVS? I don't use km_drv currently but the probing problem was a patch in this list and i probably now fixed in CVS. It's a linux problem with two driver modules for the same PCI device. HS |

Well, 2.6.11.7 doesn't work either. Looking at the kernel source and
km.c, it has the correct PCI ID for my Radeon so it should find the
device. So pci_register_driver should find my card and then call
km_probe, right? Evidently that's not happening...since the original
message does not include the probing line as I saw in another person's
post.
Does anyone have any idea why that is or how I can troubleshoot this
issue short of delving farther into the kernel source?
Thanks,
Wes
