Hi all, I managed to make tvout working on my laptop. The attached patch (applicable on the devel branch, r128_driver.c rev. 1.2.2.4) does it, also adding TVStandard config option (I didn't figure out how to do the stuff otherwise). The VBE calls present int r128_driver.c originally seem to be those of radeon, however, at least my chip (II) PCI: 01:00:0: chip 1002,4c46 card 1028,00b1 rev 02 class 03,00,00 hdr 00 does not underdtand most of them. Instead, being inspired by Lennart Poettering's atitvout, I tried some mach64 calls which more or less do work. The laptop seems not to support LCD and TV simultaneously. The driver probes for connected TV on mode switch: if it's found the output is redirected there -- this is fairly acceptable for me. (Anyway, the chip behaves somewhat strange, e.g. being quite confused with Option "Display" in config). Cheers, Ales |

I've tried everything, but i can capture only with avview. I need to capture with other resolutions than 720x576 and avview can't do this. There's anybody can tell me how can i capture with xawtv, ffmpeg or other program that support mjpeg? I use latest CVS and xfree 4.3. ______________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Thanks for the info. I have nothing plugged up to this unit but the primary display (only display) which is a Samsung Syncmaster 763mb. I'll try downloading the tvout branch and compiling that. Do you have a second monitor (or TV) plugged into it. I had this exact same problem a few weeks ago. It started all of a sudden for me. Apparently the 7500 thinks there's a second monitor attached to the card. The only thing I could do to fix it was to download the TVout branch from cvs. Once I got it all compiled and installed, it worked fine. Make sure to set the "TVOutput" option in your XF86Config file.=20 Don't set it to "NOLOAD" though. My desktop under X was all washed out until I set it to NTSC. Read the documentation to find what yours should be set to. Also, at resolutions higher than 1280x1024 I got some corrupt lines (like static) on the desktop. As a plus, now TV out works. Hope that helps, Anne =C2=A7:-) On Tue, 2004-03-30 at 16:15, Clarke Epperly wrote: > Finally got my hands on a real AIW Radeon 7500. Finally got my hands on a real AIW Radeon 7500. I had everything compiled from my attempts at making the AIW Radeon 9000 work, so I figured it'd be a simple pop out old and pop in new kinda change. Maybe change the board name string in the Device section, but otherwise only a cosmetic change. Well, when I tried to fire up X, I ran into this error: No valid mode found for this DFP/LCD Seemed kinda strange, as I have a CRT attached, albeit via the DV to VGA converter supplied with the card (I was using a similar connection with the 9000). So, I searched google. Ran through 10 pages of listings on that error string, and tried everything I found, making sure there was nothing on the video out port, changing settings in the XF86Config file (such as using option crtscreen, in all the variations I found, then found this isn't supported in XF 4.3.0) Anyway, in all cases, this error message remains and X does not initialize. Anyone got any help? I'm trying hard to upgrade from my current system (ati xpert@play 8Mb, ati wonder add in card on a PII system. I've got a hot P4 as the base but can't for the life of me find a combination that seems to work with ati.2, and I've tried many. I'm considering trying the product from, I think it is Xcelerated X <sp>, but I really want to avoid the problems with a single source type product and wish to stay in the community). Any help appreciated. Thanks in Advance, William Epperly cep...@ea... |

Hmm.. I would expect it to find libzvbi by itself. Perhaps libiconv
prevented this.

There is now a separate sound device choice in the capture setup.

Hi. I need to capture 1 fps with avview. Since directly using ffmpeg freezes, I have to use avview. ffmpeg -an -vd /dev/video0 -r 1 -s 720x288 -vcodec rawvideo -tvstd PAL out.avi halts and I have to kill it. Tommi |

Vladimir I updated to the latest CVS of avview tonight and ran into a link problem with both libiconv and libzvbi. I seem to remember having this happen to me before with the 0.2 version. Anyway I had to edit the Makefile by hand to add these two libraries before I could get a successful link. On to the sound question. I get sound when watching live tv, but nothing when doing a capture. My alsa device is going to hw:CARD-0 which is my ensoniq 1371. I've tried switching my capture source in the alsa section from "mix-mono" to "line" since that is the control in kmix which adjusts volume on the live avview. I also have the capture volume goosed all the way up. When capturing I see good levels on the audio monitors next to the luminosity histogram. I bet if I ever get this straightened out, I'll also have the audio working with the Hauppage pvr-350 card I recently installed in the same box. Trying to get that working properly with mythtv is turning out to be a real adventure. PS: I just had to re-subsribe to gatos-devel. Not sure why I was booted off. Bill Sharer |

I've created a script to capture video with avview at specified time. The recording can be preset using a GUI or, if you prefer, on the command line. The script is available at <http://www.hut.fi/~aajanki/tarec/> . -- Antti Ajanki |

When capturing with avview/ffmpeg i get segfaults as well. video alone works nice, but with sound it segfaults always (there was a short period, when it worked, without changing the setup). very strange... perhaps it might have to do s.th. with those "engine lockups" (see thread "sound with avview" ?!).... when recording with ffmpeg from the commandline it worked, but it was bad quality (displaced frames). my workaround is to record with nuvrec and encode with avidemux afterwards (anyway, my cpu is too slow for real-time-encoding). works good for me. greets, martin Oliver Meyn wrote: > Hi all, > > Capturing seems to be mostly working for me using avview-0.80.3 and the > matching ffmpeg-0.4.8 under X 4.3 using FC 1. Hi all, Capturing seems to be mostly working for me using avview-0.80.3 and the matching ffmpeg-0.4.8 under X 4.3 using FC 1. There are a few problems still and I really hope someone can help. 1. Trying to capture MPEG-4 (.avi) causes immediate segfault 2. No sound captured (sort of) - Using either MPEG-1 or DVD the capturing process appears to work but the resulting file has weird sound encoding. Under windows media player 9 the sound is there, though choppy at the higher qualities, but playing under xine gives no sound (xine on something else works fine). During capture the sound bars are moving merrily so I don't know what's going on. My sound input is coming via line-in on the sound card and video is coming through an rca plug from the vcr to the Ati dongle. Any thoughts or ideas are most welcome. Thanks, Oliver |

Thanks for your replies. I'm not a developer, and am having big problems
compiling it (I'm only used to the ./configure && make && make install
method). As one reply indicated that it probably wasn't going to work on a
laptop anyway, I'm ready to give up on it and I don't want to annoy anyone by
asking dumb questions. Below is my failed attempts at compiling it, but don't
worry if you don't have time to reply. Thanks, Rich
Ok, got it from CVS using
cvs -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/gatos co -r tv_output
ati.2
Tried this:
$xmkmf
output:
mv -f Makefile Makefile.bak
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
then
$make
output:
several pages of errors.
tried $xmkmf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
output:
mv -f Makefile Makefile.bak
imake -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/config/cf
-DTOPDIR=/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config -DCURDIR=.
Imakefile.c:35: Imake.tmpl: No such file or directory
imake: Exit code 1.
Stop.

Hi, you should be using the tv_output branch of ati.2 CVS repository for TV output support (the fact that your log says "TVOutput" is not being used means that you're not using the correct branch). BTW, be advised that there are still some issues about TV output of laptop computers. Namely, you get the output but its hor/ver frequencies are completely wrong, i.e. you can't do anything useful with it, except, maybe, getting a migraine by staring at the TV :( I'm trying to fix this but it will take some time as I don't have an ATI equipped laptop. i was able to get the 0.80.3 version of avview to compile. this version does have the alsa settings panel and does have a select box to allow me to choose which audio card to record with. i can record ok using the sb live card, but can't do anything with the onboard audio. now, when i'm recording a video, the recording stops when the output gets to about 150M. I'm using the MPEG high quality setting and end up with < 10 minutes of video. i don't see any error messages anywhere to figure out why this is happening. the only thing i see is that in avview the filesize stops growing, and the histogram? slowly flatlines. i have 8 GB free space on the partition the file is being written to so it's not running out of space. any suggestions? So I would be happy if someone have a useful hint.... thanks, Andr=E9. |

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I did that. I copied the radeon.o from the drm-kernel source directory into /lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel/drivers/char/drm/radeon.o I then checked it with modinfo and verified that it is the correct one from Gatos. Did you have the drm module from the kernel loaded? I would exit X and rmmod any modules related to the radeon and drm before restarting X. If you still don't have it after that run modinfo of the module and see what location it's at. I've attached my XF86Config file. Also you need to have all the xlibmesa and xlibmesa4 packages installed. HTH. You wrote: > OK, I finally got some time to redo my installation. But 3d is still not > working. Hello Antiphon, I've got an AIW 7500 on Fedora Core 1. Just a quick question. Did you want TV out or not? If so, you'll need to download the XFree86 source code (I used the updated src rpms from redhat) and the ati.2 tv_ouput branch and drm-kernel from gatos cvs. If you want video capture you'll also need km from cvs and I would suggest avview from cvs as well for video capture. If not, it's possible that the drm-kernel didn't get installed properly. Check the radeon.o that's installed against the one that's in your compiled drm-kernel directory. Before I switched to the cvs, I had this problem and had to copy the drm-kernel modules into place by hand. I've also attached a copy of my XFree86 Config file. The only difference is that you won't need the Option "TVOutput" line unless you're using the tv_output branch. Hope this helps, Anne =C2=A7:-) On Sat, 2004-03-20 at 15:00, Antiphon wrote: > OK, I finally got some time to redo my installation. But 3d is still not=20 > working. OK, I finally got some time to redo my installation. But 3d is still not working. When I run glxgears, I only get around 200fps. Here's what I tried this time: 1. Backed up /usr/X11R6 2. rm -rf /usr/X11R6 3. Downloaded XFree86 4.3 binaries from the official server 4. Installed v4.3 5. Downloaded and installed the ati.2 drivers by unpacking them into /usr 6. Downloaded and installed the drm-kernel drivers. 7. Insmoded them. 8. Started up X. I'm wondering if my XF86Config-4 file is messed up. Can someone with a 7500 send me a copy of theirs? Is there some package that I need to install? i reported a while back having errors recording audio using avview and the km driver. i can record video ok, but i have had no success with audio using my onboard audio chip (via82686a?). i obtained a pci audio card (sb live) and now have two alsa devices including my onboard audio card. i'd like to try to tell avview to use the new device when recording. i don't see any alsa mixer area on the avview control panel the button on the top labeled "ALSA mixer" is red just like the other two buttons. i see only xv attributes and a capture (v4l) panels. could someone help explain how i can tell avview to use my second audio card for capture? i'll be sure to plug the audio out cable from the dongle into the audio input on the new pci audio card ;). thanks! ~mark |

I posted a note about a week ago about my Radeon AIW 7500 detecting a second monitor that wasn't there. Well after trying unsuccessfully to get XFree86 to ignore it, I decided to stop fighting and go with the flow. I downloaded the CVS ati.2 with tvout support. Since I'm using Fedora Core 1, I downloaded the XFree86 source rpm from RedHat. I compiled and re-installed it and compiled against that build. Voila. Almost. It works fine now. I even got drm and video capture working. But the picture is all faded, like it's been white-washed. Not just the tv image, but the whole desktop. No amount of gamma correction or changing monitor settings can fix it. Someone posted to the XFree86 mailing list with this same problem. He thought that the monitor was being detected as a DVI instead of a CRT. (Mine's a CRT hooked up through a DVI to CRT adapter.) I couldn't find a solution. Any suggestions? Thank you, Anne =C2=A7:-) |
