Hi! I'm using an AIW 7500 PCI and an 9800Pro AGP card at the same time, with two independent X servers running. The system is absolutly stable with ati.2 and fglrx 3.2.8 drivers (XFree86 4.3), kernel 2.6.5. I have 3d acceleration working on the 9800 pro, but I haven't been able to get it working on the 7500 since there doesn't seem to be any drm module in the 2.6.5 kernel which would want to work with the ati.2 drivers (no difference if I have fglrx loaded or not). I have also not been able to get either tv-watching nor video capture working on the 7500 (again, independent of if fglrx is loaded or not). km compiles and loads fine, but it doesn't work. I was debugging this for quite some time with the help of Vladimir Dergachev, but due to my current workload I had to abondon the debugging for the timebeeing. TV-out on the other hand works fine on the 7500, so I'm actually quite happy at the moment.. Would like to get the tv-capture workin tough.. I have no stability problems whatsoever. If you are using a newer version of fglrx, you might want to downgrade to 3.2.8. 3.7.0 and 3.7.6 are unstable and really crappy. It is fault of fglrx I'm sure, just no open-source driver for 4.3 for Radeon 9600, right? Fred |

Vladimir: What make switches are required when making ATI.4.4.0 for XFree86 4.4 are required. I also have a AIW7500 and want to compile the cvs driver and install. I have AthlonXP CPU, AIW7500 AGP. I want to get TV with avview working at a minimum. make -f Imakefile ????? The driver is currently written so that you can display incoming video stream using overlay scaler. And, if you want, you can capture this stream using km. From the description, tvtime wants to capture the stream first, apply some operations to it and then use overlay scaler for display - this won't work right now as the driver is using overlay scaler to display captured stream as is. It is not too hard to remove this limitation from the driver, however, tvtime would still need to use Xv interface as primary means of control, not v4l. best Vladimir Dergachev > > -- > Peter Osterlund - pe...@te... > http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340 > |

That seems to be the case. See:
http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/problems.html#aiw
Among other things, it says:
The Video4Linux interface provided by GATOS is currently
unusable with tvtime, and at this point it seems unlikely that
they ever will. The problems are:
1. The rumor is that the All-In-Wonder cards cannot both
capture and allow an application to use the hardware
overlay scaler of the card. If this is true, then tvtime
would be unable to do any processing on the video.
Is this rumor true?

What is tvtime ? If it is one of the apps that uses v4l interface, than it
will not work with ati.4.4.0. Try using AVview instead.

After my last posting I downloaded Xorg's source and the ati.4.4.0
source. The ati.4.4.0 driver compiled and installed fine after a few
changes (e.g. include directories and binary locations). However, FC2's
tvtime still doesn't see the ATI AIW Radeon TV tuner. Then I remembered
about the km and drm-kernel modules for V4L support.
I got the km code from CVS and tried to compile it but ran into tons of
errors. I copied km/Makefile-2.6 to Makefile and ran the suggested make
command. Here's the beginning of the output:

I got capture working finally. I had to go back to kernel 2.6.5. Kernel 2.6.6 seems to break the drivers. Here is what I have done to get it working. - Gentoo system with ~x86 set in make.conf - XFree86 4.3.0 installed - Switched from DEVFS to UDEV. - Compiled km drivers from CVS against Linux kernel 2.6.5 - copied km_api_drv.ko and km_drv.ko to /lib/modules/2.6.5/misc - added km_api_drv and km_drv to /etd/modules.autoload/linux-2.6 - Avview compiled from CVS - ati.2 installed from binary tarball (not needed for capture) Thanks to all for the help and thanks to the developers for making these drivers. It is nice to be able to use all the features of the AIW card under Linux. --- "rac47.02" <rac...@en...> wrote: > Sorry. Actually, at this moment it should. Xorg code is not that far from=20 4.3.99.902 (i.e. 4.4.0rc2) which they started from. 4.4.0 driver is being developed against 4.3.99.902 actually.. > > Only a handful of developers have enough knowledge and > experience to attempt a port of the ATI2 drivers to an > alternate X11 interface. Lee, you see, if you want to make sure something is supported the best way is to write the code (or test it, whatever applies)=20 yourself. Otherwise, you can hope that the statistic will work for you - if all distribution are indeed carrying Xorg then there is a good chance=20 that everyone (including people writing drivers) have it, don't you think ? The reality is that there are several *different* Xserver projects (at least Xouvert, X.org, XFree86, let's through DRI here too) that make=20 it impractical to support all of them. Personally, right now I am using XFree86 (which I am reasonably=20 comfortable with) and I am not going to switch (or invest time learning=20 structure of another project) until at least two of the following things=20 happen: * Slackware stops shipping XFree86 * DRI switches to something else. Note that there is movement within dri project to make it easy to ship standalone drivers (so that OEM can make binaries drivers to fit DRI infrastructure). This would likely make this whole issue irrelevant.. * X.org and/or Xouvert stabilize their internal changes - they have ambitious plans and the changes would be worth it - when they are complete. As far as Redhat is concerned, they have historically applied tons of=20 patches and I have never been interested in tracking their developement. Speaking of which, Redhat (or anyone else) is welcome to port parts of=20 ati.2 driver into whatever trees they want. The primary goal of GATOS was to research how ones uses AIW cards, with=20 the intention that its code is merged into larger projects later (which is= =20 why there are no ati.2 drivers besides "experimental" ones). Most of the code that deals with XvPutImage has already been merged=20 (mach64 - starting with 4.4.0 and rage128 and radeon starting with 4.1.0 and up to now (?)) So, this is my angle. Other developers have, of course, different=20 agendas and opinions :) best Vladimir Dergachev > > Regards, > Lee > > =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D > -- > Lee Parmeter > Linux Registered User #337161 > http://www.linXos.com > 'It's free. I have an ATI AIW Radeon 32 which I have been using with RH9 and an ati.2 driver for some time now. I'm testing out Fedora Core 2 and my card is detected as a 7200, and it does not appear that the TV tuner is recognized and/or configured. I know FC2 uses Xorg's server instead of XFree86. Any advice on how to use the TV tuner in my card with FC2? TIA Carmine |

Recompiled the driver. it makes no difference AFA the sound goes. It's very
weird that I get sound on a couple of channels and not at all on the others.

This should not affect AVview, really. It should certainly not cause X to
crash. Try reinstalling the driver.

Bogdan Diaconescu has ported ati.2 code to XFree86 4.4.0 !
The result is in a new module, named "ati.4.4.0" - hopefully this would
be less confusing.
Notes:
a) Mach64 code has *NOT* been ported, however, stock 4.4.0 drivers
contain PutImage-only code (i.e. DVD/movie playback) ported by
Marc Aurele (maintainer of XFree86 ati driver).
b) I have verified that new code works on Radeon 7500 - both PutImage
and PutVideo.
c) There is a bug someplace in 3d part of the driver - Xserver will
crash when glxinfo is run. Therefore, the latest version of
Avview from CVS is recommended. Alternatively, run bzip2 on
glxinfo executable to prevent Avview from running it.
d) As past year shows, I do not have time to maintain GATOS code
regularly. I want to apologize for that - in particular, for the
fact that I could not make 4.4.0 update timely.

Hi:
I have a Fedora Core1 Yarrow witth a old ATI AIW classic, linux tell me
that is a ATI Mach64. I install the Gatos-ATI-Driver and now I try to
install the "km" modules, I run the "make" command without problems, but
when I run "make test" I have the following error message:
make test
** Syncing disks
sync
** Trying to make sure v4l module is loaded
modprobe videodev || true
** Now loading km modules
insmod ./km_api_drv.o
insmod ./km_drv.o km_debug=0 km_buffers=5
./km_drv.o: init_module: Operation not permitted
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
make: *** [test] Error 1
Anyway, if I do a "lsmod" I see the "videodev" and "km_api_drv" modules
loaded and if I run "xawtv" the card work fine (I can see the channels,
etc). What is that error??, What do the "km_drv.o"??, it can fail me
something without this module??, How can I fix that message??
and finally how can I do to load correctly the "km" modules when linux start
(after X)??
Tips???, links??, suggestions??, black magic??, pray's??
Thanks
Mauricio Henriquez.

Hi, last time I have upgraded kernel from 2.6.5 to 2.6.6 and I have problem with km (cvs version from 20.05.2004). Compilation seems OK but I have warning messages: ... LD [M] /root/km/km_drv.o LD [M] /root/km/km_api_drv.o Building modules, stage 2. MODPOST *** Warning: "video_register_device" [/root/km/km_drv.ko] undefined! *** Warning: "video_unregister_device" [/root/km/km_drv.ko] undefined! *** Warning: "video_devdata" [/root/km/km_drv.ko] undefined! CC /root/km/km_api_drv.mod.o LD [M] /root/km/km_api_drv.ko CC /root/km/km_drv.mod.o LD [M] /root/km/km_drv.ko make: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.6 ... and km doesn't work (videodev, km_api_drv and km_drv load property but /dev/video0 doesn't create and avview raport: 'no KM driver' ) With 2.5.6 (same .config) kernel I haven't any warning messages and everything works OK. Greetings and thank's Miroslaw Czachor |

When will I ever learn not to press Ctrl+Enter to make a linebreak, then my messages will not leave to early (perhaps the feature will vanish when ICQ or whoever else will hold a patent on this and all other possibilities to send a message without circling your mouse trice around the sent button...). Sorry for the inconvenience. Here again. > PS Hmm.. Read that again and it sounds a bit grouchy. Sorry ! I am just > in a bad mood bc of software patents in Europe. I better not rewrite this > e-mail though or it'll sound worse. Hmm... I'll try to cheer you up a little. The guideline will have to pass the new parliament later so lets hope that they will stand their ground! And lets make the correct election in the coming elections. We should also keep nagging our politicians about this point. Perhaps they'll realize that they are about to make a grave mistake! Btw. when will the Irish government end?? Perhaps we will get one at the top of the EU which will not get constant infu$ions from MS. Greetings Ben (who still believes in the possibility that it might become better) |

Redhat, by default, does *NOT* include /usr/local/lib in the path where it=
=20
searches for libraries. (I don't know about FC2 but this was certainly=20
true in earlier RH editions)
Add "/usr/loca/lib" to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig again.
Just one of the annoying features of Redhat, you are not the first to run=
=20
into this and I am afraid this won't be the last message that I write=20
about it..

PS Hmm.. Read that again and it sounds a bit grouchy. Sorry ! I am just
in a bad mood bc of software patents in Europe. I better not rewrite this
e-mail though or it'll sound worse.

Greetings all. Trying for probably the third time to get GATOS working properly on my system. I don't know why I have so much trouble. so now I turn to the experts. Here's the setup: AMD Athlon 2500+ 512MB ram ATI AIW Radeon 8500. Fedora Core 2 (also tried with Gentoo, and RedHat9) I installed the video drivers, it seems to be working (well, X started back up after the driver install, I know assumptions are usually bad, but I am taking that as "the drivers are working") now on to AVview. first I needed to install tk, no problem, snagged the rpms from the fc2 install CD and installed. now when I do a: ./configure --with-ffmpeg=/root/ffmpeg-0.4.8 where ffmpeg is sitting, compiled. it dies with: <snip> checking for existence of /root/tk8.4.6/unix/tkConfig.sh... loading checking ffmpeg version... *** AVview requires ffmpeg 0.4.8 If you are sure you are using correct version of ffmpeg check config.log for details # </snip> I believe this to be the relevant section of config.log: <snip> configure:7627: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/src/ffmpeg-0.4.8/libavformat -I/usr/src/ffmpeg-0.4.8/libavcodec -L/usr/X11R6/lib conftest.c -lXinerama -lXv -lXext -lX11 -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -logg -lmp3lame -lasound -lzvbi -lpthread -lm -lz -ldl /usr/src/ffmpeg-0.4.8/libavformat/libavformat.a /usr/src/ffmpeg-0.4.8/libavcodec/libavcodec.a >&5 configure:7630: $? = 0 configure:7632: ./conftest ./conftest: error while loading shared libraries: libmp3lame.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory configure:7635: $? = 127 configure: program exited with status 127 </snip> no idea why it can't seem to find libmp3lame.so.0, it exists in /usr/local/lib. I compiled and installed it myself (and did a ldconfig). If anyone can make sense of this I would appreciate some suggestions on how to get it working. Thanks to all in advance. -Todd _________________________________________________________________ MSN Toolbar provides one-click access to Hotmail from any Web page FREE download! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200413ave/direct/01/ |
