Hello,
I am hoping anyone will help me with a boring problem with fluxbox 1.3.7.

I have used fluxbox 1.3.5 (the one coming with ubuntu). It works well, and I like the fonts of my menus (weel sized, sans, bold, very readable), which can easily configured using overlay file.

However, fluxbox 1.3.7 seems not to read the overlay file. In particular, it does not take any instruction on sans bold fonts, and the fonts it uses look thin and ugly.

Fluxbox 1.3.7 seems more stable and I want to use it. But I need to fix this issue with fonts, as it is really boring with those ugly fonts.

Any help how to solve this issue?
Thank you!

    First of all.
What seems more stable? Last time i had problems with stability or something like that.. i don't know..200X? :-)

And did you have any compiling-errors or something a-like? Or a missing library?
I understand your problem, but some information to reproduce it would be good. Even if I can't help. Someone else would be directly up to speed.

    Have you checked the logfile?
that's my old startup with ... as it is.. just so you have a clue what i mean.

    > cat -p startup
    #!/bin/sh
    #
    # fluxbox startup-script:
    #
    # Lines starting with a '#' are ignored.

    # Change your keymap:
    xmodmap "/home/cb/.Xmodmap"

    # Applications you want to run with fluxbox.
    # MAKE SURE THAT APPS THAT KEEP RUNNING HAVE AN ''&'' AT THE END.
    #
    # unclutter -idle 2 &
    # wmnd &
    # wmsmixer -w &
    # idesk &
    #
    # Debian-local change:
    # - fbautostart has been added with a quick hack to check to see if it
    # exists. If it does, we'll start it up by default.
    which fbautostart > /dev/null
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
        fbautostart
    fi

    # And last but not least we start fluxbox.
    # Because it is the last app you have to run it with ''exec'' before it.

    exec fluxbox
    # or if you want to keep a log:
    # exec fluxbox -log "/home/cb/.fluxbox/log"

    Thank you, crpb!

I have used 1.3.5 version for a few months. I have seen a number of bugs - generally the windows frees. I assume 1.3.6 is more stable.

I think the problem with the fonts that I experience is due to some bad configuration (my system or fluxbox itself), because I have made the same procedure (install 1.3.5 and later 1.3.7) in anothe rmachine and 1.3.7 reads and shows very well fonts.

My startup and log files are below. I hope anyone can have any idea.

    Thank you!

    That's with the Debian Package.

It may as well be XFT, maybe you can check on the other System if it is included.
It's been a about 10 years that i last compiled fluxbox myself. So just spit-balling here.
If you are on Debian or an derivate you could use apt-get build-dep fluxbox before using ./configure.
