Book 9: maybe 40 sections done? Most of the necessary coding changes still to do. I had a little burst of interest in March but something must have distracted me. Book 7: nothing added on my part. I'm unsure whether Paul or the original authors would want it to be in an unofficial app, especially now the official videogame is out there.
Hey! First off, thanks for making JaFL, it's awesome. Any updates on book 9/book 7?
I've started giving this a go After about a month I've been able to complete 100 sections I'm finding there are quite a few mechanics being added which I could not find a way for the engine to support However enhancing the engine has not been too difficult My problem is writing and testing all that XML It is very laborious and is going to take the good part of a year at this rate If anyone is interested in helping with this please do let me know as it could really speed things up

So it seems like officially Book 7 would be a no and Jonathan's a bit busy to finish book 9, as wanderer asked about tutorials is there also any advances in programming that would make designing this any easier for an amateur programmer @jemann75? Also id like to say a massive thanks to you Jonathan as this way of playing the books was amazing.

If someone was to add book 7 for their own personal use and nothing else is there a tutorial or something that would explain how to go about doing that? I personally think this java app is the best way to play the books. Although I do like the new game.
a) We'd need explicit permission from the authors for adding book 7. With the official game version out now, I'm assuming the answer would be no. b) the PDF would be handy to work from, although it's kind of a sore point with the authors, given Mikael released it without permission after screwing up the KS. c) Book 9 is more possible, and I've done some work on that. There should be posts elsewhere on the work remaining to be done? Basically the codebase needs more features to make it work correctly...
I was wondering this as well. There is a pdf of book 7 available which I hope makes the process easier.
Hey Jonathan(@jemann75), Any thought on adding Book 7 to the java? If not you how would someone like myself go about learning how to undertake this project as id love to be able to play with the additions of book 7 and 9 on the PC.

Thanks!
It's in ItemList; MAX_ITEM_COUNT = 12
Sorry for reviving this... I'm trying to do the same but cannot find the line that needs to be edited? item_max=12 is not in the ItemNode.java or any other file i opened :(
My old version BigFLApp_104 work fine (windows 7). But new versions 1.05 and 1.06 not work. I start flands.jar but nothing happening. Repeat, v 1.04 work fine! Help, please!

Hello. Many, many, many thanks. I already downloaded them and works perfectly. Thanks!
The illustrations are in the Binary/1.0 folder: https://sourceforge.net/projects/flapp/files/Binary%20%28ready%20to%20play%29/1.0/ Glad you enjoy it. I also find actually reading a gamebook a little slow now, which is unfortunate.
Hello. I can not find the illustraion files. I have read https://sourceforge.net/p/flapp/discussion/947017/thread/23a7b45e/ but the illustrations are not in the downloadable files, or at least I am unable to find them. Could you help me, please? Outstanding app, by the way. I have the books but reading and playing your app is much better. Thanks.
The game works great even on Pi0, just run console, navigate to Fabled Lands catalogue and run java -jar flands.jar
Book 2: reduced ship sale prices to half their purchase price.
Revert earlier edit - changes to Combat skill still affect Defence
Whoops, don't close a zip file directly before returning a stream from its contents
- Prep for v1..0.6
Reworking of how Outcome groups work with flags, to hopefully solve repeatable sets of outcomes (e.g. 2.157).
Renamed batch file and icon.
- Made empty <text/> element into a manual space, to fix formatting issues
- Don't include weapon bonus in Defence calculation
From my reading the old browser plugins were indeed the main threat, hence chrome and Firefox ending support for them. But some people are still somewhat concerned about Java RE. Ofc it's hard to tell quite how reasonable those concerns are. But now that Sandboxie is set up its a nice easy better-safe-than-sorry solution.
I think (although I may be wrong) that the main security concern with Java is when it's running through a browser plugin. It seems to be possible to disable this after installation now - see: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/disable_browser.xml
Seems to be working fine in sandboxie :)
So I got a bit worried about this and did some reading, was reminded about that massive zero-day panic and worried even more! Then tried Java 8, and thankfully JaFL seems to run fine on 8 (only went straight back to 5 before as that's the latest version you mention on the JaFL site). Sounds like 7 was the big danger so less worried now. Still doesn't feel ideal to have Java installed at all though. Never used it before, but maybe I can install Java in Sandboxie and run JaFL from within that? I'll...
btw, is running Java 5 any kind of security threat? (I'm on Windows 10) I don't think I had java RE installed at all before trying to use JaFL, so I assume my browsers (Chrome and Firefox) use their own plugins and aren't affected by the version I have installed? So does that mean it's fine? Or should I try installing Java 9 as well as 5, or something like that? Cheers
Thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully the fix is relatively minor, and I won't have to tell people to stick to Java < 9 (although JaFL hardly requires the latest and greatest features).
