I have also re-implemented the table (longtable) Support for my installat=

(more colorizing is aviable) but I'am not very proud about my implementat=

I was told that DB2LaTeX is able to handle MathML embedded in DocBook XML.  
But if I translate a DocBook/MathML file with DB2LaTeX' docbook.xsl, I get a 
LaTeX file which contains some blank lines where math code is expected.

How do I manage to get the MathML parts translated?

I use xsltproc 1.1.8 and DB2LaTeX 0.8pre1.

I don't know much about XML namespaces but could this problem have something 
to do with namespaces?  docbook.xsl contains

    xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0"

and mathml/mathml.mod.xsl contains

    xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML".

Is this up to date?  Nowadays, DocBook XML has its DTD under 
http://www.oasis-open.org.  Does the namespace still begin with 
http://nwalsh.com?

I use http://www.docbook.org/xml/mathml/1.0/dbmathml.dtd as the DTD URL in my 
document.  Does this make problems because the namespace URL in 
mathml/mathml.mod.xsl begins with http://www.w3.org?

At the beginning of mathml/mathml.mod.xsl there is the following statement:

    Note: these elements are not part of the DocBook DTD. I have extended the
    docbook DTD in order to support this tags, so that's why I have these
    templates here.

But although MathML elements aren't part of DocBook, they are part of the 
MathML-extended DocBook which is an official document type nowadays.  Why 
isn't this reflected in the comment in mathml/mathml.mod.xsl?

It appears that it is valid to mix <para> and <indexterm> within
<chapter>, so DB2LaTeX needs to be able to handle it. There must be
other elements with which this problem arises, too. I'm not sure how we
handle it. Will have to think about this one. For the time being, you
can add something like this to your customisation layer. It will make
the indexterm snap to the preceding paragraph, if there is one, or
otherwise the following paragraph.

What is the parent element? DB2LaTeX treats <indexterm> an inline
element whereas <para> is a block element.

Then the generated latex file looks like this:

But there should be a newline before or after the index to begin a new 
paragraph.
How can I handle this, without editing the latex file every time?

files that we use -- I have overlooked something). I suggest that the
best course of action is to remove all those three xsl:variables and
instead put lang="en" (or xml:lang="en") into your DocBook source file.
For instance, replace <book> with <book lang="en"> (or <article> with
<article lang="en"). You can also use locale specifications such as
"en_US", "en_GB", "en_CA", "en_AU", etc. If you cannot modify your
source (XML) files, I will investigate further. If lang="en" works for

I think this is definitely the worst approach, and I would recommend
against this method for any long-term documents. I suspect that it is
only appropriate if you want to completely delete the contents of our
existing template. The worst aspect of the approach is that it is
neither forwards-compatible nor backwards-compatible with DB2LaTeX
releases. You essentially have to remember to manually compare
book-article.mod.xsl with your customisation layer each time DB2LaTeX
changes.

Answering my own question: I found out that I don't need
multicol, if the complete text has to have three columns.
I use pstops now which gives exactly what I want.

On the face of it, this strikes me as an odd way to do landscape
documents -- are you sure it's necessary to do it this way (I haven't
tried it, myself)? If you /really/ need to do it this way, you can add
\usepackage{pdflscape} to one of the preamble variables (see
<http://db2latex.sf.net/find/template.generate.latex.article.preamble>).
You can configure \begin{landscape} and \end{landscape} using a custom
LaTeX mapping (see <http://db2latex.sourceforge.net/mapping.html>). If,
instead, you merely want to use the {landscape} environment around
selected parts of your document, you can add processing instructions
<http://db2latex.sourceforge.net/find/template.processing-instruction('latex')>
or customise the relevant templates (involving <xsl:apply-imports/>).

I had a look at your sample file, and I see that you are using the
"Windows-1250" character encoding. I am not familiar with it, so I chose
to use ISO-8859-2 (latin2) encoding. (I am using teTeX on UNIX systems.)
After doing that, I found that the ogonek was not supported with the
default LaTeX fonts. To solve this, I needed to use the 'ae' package
(for Computer Modern fonts) or specify T1 encoding with PostScript
fonts. The relevant lines for your customisation file are below:

Computer Modern fonts:
      <xsl:output encoding="iso-8859-2"/>
      <xsl:param name="latex.inputenc">latin2</xsl:param>

I downloaded the lists.mod.xsl and this error is now fixed.
The second problem is partially solved (i did many things so i am not =
sure
witch one really helped) but another appeared.
The conversion from docbook to latex works fine, but than pdflatex shows
many errors. It seems to me, they are not lanaguage related. I use =
MikTex
2.4 with Czech language support. When I do have correctly written TEX =
file,
conversion to the PDF works fine. I paste here piece of the docbook
document:

I'm not entirely certainly, but I think this is a general XML issue,
explained by the following: By default, DB2LaTeX uses ISO-8859-1 =
encoding
for its output.
If the Czech language requires a different encoding, you will need to
specify it yourself. If you have a DB2LaTeX customisation file =
(explained at
the DB2LaTeX website), you can use the following lines:

    <xsl:import href=3D"...path.or.url.to...db2latex/docbook.xsl"/>
    <xsl:output encoding=3D"something.other.than.ISO-8859-1"/>

Note, however, that you will also need to enable corresponding fonts in
LaTeX (for this, you add another line to your DB2LaTeX customisation =
file).
This can be done in a number of ways, but I am not sure what conventions =
to
use for Czech. If you have lang=3D"cs' in your DocBook source files, =
DB2LaTeX
might automatically get LaTeX's babel package to help you out (not sure =
if
it's sufficient, though). If you have a small sample document, I could =
try
some things for you.
