The installation doc for cacti seems a bit dated. I'm wondering what the official versions recommended/supported for PHP and MySQL. It seems that versions of < MySQL 5.6 are no longer supported and PHP5 and 7.0 are coming up EoL. What are the officially supported versions for the current Cacti release? Is it safe to assume that MySQL 5.7 and PHP 7.1 (or even PHP 7.2) are supported? Currently running Cacti with mod_php, is anyone running with PHP-FPM ? -- inoc.net!rblayzor XMPP: rblayzor.AT.inoc.net PGP: https://inoc.net/~rblayzor/ |

### Cacti Open Beta Cacti 1.2 Beta is here and been in development for little more than a year! We have been focused on enhancing Cacti and fixing a lot of issues all over the last year. While we did not get all the enhancements we wanted into 1.2, only somewhere around 150+ enhancements and fixes, we believe it is time to release it into the wild. As always we want to thank the people that use Cacti, participate on the Forums, submit issues and pull requests! We encourage people to get involved and help make Cacti better! This beta would not be possible without the efforts of the community members who have activity helped in testing, reporting issues and submitting fixes! Thank You! If you are interested in participating in the 1.2 Beta please visit the Community Forums Beta Section [1] for more information. #### Cacti 1.2.0 Beta Enhancements - Extensive update to the installation process making new installations and upgrading easier. Also includes a new command line upgrade script for those who want to use command line only. - Additional data collection debugging. - System notification to let you know when things are going wrong in Cacti. - User interface enhancement, not limited to but including, updated dialog boxes and form controls. - Database connection now supports SSL configuration. - Data input method whitelisting to mitigate potential malicious activities. - Graph trees can now be bookmarked once again! YAH! - Enhanced remote polling capabilities primarily around performance and offline functionality. #### Cacti 1.2.0 Beta 1 to 2 Updates - Enhancement to sync remote pollers when device, graph or data source update occur. - Changes to data query reindexing to increase speed of the operation. - Update to SNMP data query to use ifName before ifDescr for the index value. **NOTE:** Do not forget to run the database upgrade utility if you are applying Beta 2 to previous Beta 1 or a clone of the develop branch. From the Cacti directory run `php cli/upgrade_database.php --forcever=1.1.38` to run the database upgrade. #### Download the Beta https://www.cacti.net/downloads/beta/cacti-1.2.0-beta2.tar.gz https://www.cacti.net/downloads/beta/cacti-1.2.0-beta2.zip https://www.cacti.net/downloads/beta/cacti-spine-1.2.0-beta2.tar.gz ### Translations We need some help with translations! If you willing and able to help please consider helping out. Check out the contributing to translations section [2]. ### Documentation Going forward there are considerable efforts being made to make sure we have an easy and effective way to create, managed and distribute documentation. In the 1.2 Beta you may notice that documentation has now been included and is accessible directly from the user interface making it more visible than it has ever previously been. If you are interested in helping make the documentation excellent then please do not hesitate to get involved and contribute on the Cacti Documentation repository [3]. --- [1] https://forums.cacti.net/viewforum.php?f=27 [2] https://github.com/Cacti/documentation/blob/develop/Contributing-Translations.md [3] https://github.com/Cacti/documentation |

Got it. In Cacti 0.8.8f, I only had UDP ping as an available ping testing option. So all hosts were set to use that. For reasons that I don't yet know, my Cacti 1.1.37 upgraded installation doesn't seem to be able to do UDP pings. So it thought hosts were down and, therefore, didn't run the SNMP tests. Once I switched the ping tests to ICMP ping, the SNMP data logging began to work again. I just figured out how to get even more data in the logs. It looks like Cacti is marking every devices as "Down" for some reason. It doesn't seem to matter if I have them configured for "SNMP and Ping" or "SNMP or Ping". My guess is that the third device just doesn't allow SNMP queries any more. So these are just a different issue all together. The httpd processes run as user "www". The cronjob runs as user "cacti". The cache directory was originally all chmod 755 and user cacti and group cacti. I made these changes and waited a while to see if anything would change, but it didn't. For what it's worth, when I go to a device's configuration page, the "SNMP Information" section at the top does show data from that system. So it seems SNMP connections are working. At this point (after disabling the devices I mentioned above) the last few lines of the log file look like this: 10/12/2018 09:15:07 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:7.6943 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:63 HostsPerProcess:63 DataSources:14297 RRDsProcessed:0 10/12/2018 09:20:13 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:13.1428 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:63 HostsPerProcess:63 DataSources:14297 RRDsProcessed:0 10/12/2018 09:25:25 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:25.0052 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:63 HostsPerProcess:63 DataSources:14297 RRDsProcessed:0 What do you think? A back-end server was failing in such a way that was causing intermediate issues and it wasn't taken out of rotation as expected. It has been removed from rotation. Sorry for the inconvenience! Hi All, Just wondering does anyone know what's going on with the cacti.net website? I am randomly getting Cloudflare Error 522, Every now and then I might get the page I need but mainly just timing out. This seems to be a broader issue as I've tried a few different ISP's across a few different countries. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Mark -- Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop. |

Are only certain devices not working or is it all devices? That timeout is just for one host that probably either isn't responding quick enough over SNMP or SNMP isn't enabled. I would find that host and make sure the timeout is set to something that will work for that device or adjust the "Downed Device Detection" to work for that specific host/device. Check the `cache` directory and it's sub directories. Make sure they are read/write for the user/group for the web server. This might be an issue with the poller and graph cache system not being able to write. Tony On 10/7/18 11:56 AM, Jaime Kikpole via cacti-user wrote: > Thanks for the suggestions. Thanks for the suggestions. Here is what I've got so far: - FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p4 - Cacti 1.1.37 - PHP 7.1.22 - MySQL 5.6.41 - RRD 1.7.0 All software (other than FreeBSD itself) was installed via the "pkg" command. The old versions were uninstalled prior to the new version being installed, since that is what "pkg" does. However, it doesn't remove any modified files. After the install by pkg, the web GUI prompted me through an "install" process and upgraded the SQL backend in the process, confirmed some settings in MySQL's configuration, etc. The path /var/db/cacti/rra is currently owned by user cacti and group cacti and mode 755. As far as I can tell, the last modification dates on those files are from just before the upgrade. The poller is run by cron jobs owned by user cacti. Here is what "crontab -u cacti -e" gives me: */5 * * * * /usr/local/bin/php /usr/local/share/cacti/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1 The log file at /usr/local/share/cacti/log/cacti.log ends like this: 10/07/2018 11:05:06 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.3.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:05:10 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:10.2242 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:66 HostsPerProcess:66 DataSources:14462 RRDsProcessed:0 10/07/2018 11:10:06 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.1.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:10:07 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.5.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:10:08 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.3.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:10:11 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:10.8459 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:66 HostsPerProcess:66 DataSources:14462 RRDsProcessed:0 10/07/2018 11:15:05 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.1.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:15:06 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.5.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:15:07 - CMDPHP WARNING: SNMP Error:'Timeout (500 ms)', Device:'10.3.100.5', OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 10/07/2018 11:15:09 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:9.6688 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:66 HostsPerProcess:66 DataSources:14462 RRDsProcessed:0 I'm not sure what could be causing these timeouts. Jaime, Check out the `cacti.log` in the `log` directory. It might give you some insight into what is going on. The most common mistake on upgrade is either not copying the RRA files from your old installation or not updating the permissions on the RRA directory and files so that the user that runs the poller has read and write access. If you still have an issue, email away, but please do include the OS Version and if you installed Cacti from the OS repos or from an official release file. I just upgraded from 0.8.8f to 1.1.37. I can still see old data, but no new data is being added to the graphs. When I visit a device's settings, it shows the SNMP header and refreshing a query gives me the same number of times as before. I pulled up the poller command it if the crontab and ran it manually, but there was no change. I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if you have them. Hello, In Cacti 0.8.8e , I noticed that, if the value or output of my script is a:1 b:2 and I configure Data input method and datasource to it. But when I checked the rrd file with rrdtool info test.rrd|grep .last_ds it results in ds[a].last_ds = "U" ds[b].last_ds = "2" Workaround: The only way to fix it as workaround is by adding a dummy name:value pair to output my script like - 1:1 a:1 b:2 It looks like the datasource rrd file only updates from the second key:value pair. Could you please help me to understand if this is a bug in Cacti 0.8.8e or is there something I'm doing wrong. With the above workaround, I can get it working but would wanted to know the cause of the issue. Thanks, Arun Badri |
