The installation doc for cacti seems a bit dated. I'm wondering what the 
official versions recommended/supported for PHP and MySQL.

It seems that versions of < MySQL 5.6 are no longer supported and PHP5 
and 7.0 are coming up EoL.

What are the officially supported versions for the current Cacti release?

Is it safe to assume that MySQL 5.7 and PHP 7.1 (or even PHP 7.2) are 
supported?

Currently running Cacti with mod_php, is anyone running with PHP-FPM ?

### Cacti Open Beta

Cacti 1.2 Beta is here and been in development for little more than a year!

We have been focused on enhancing Cacti and fixing a lot of issues all 
over the last year.  While we did not get all the enhancements we wanted 
into 1.2, only somewhere around 150+ enhancements and fixes, we believe 
it is time to release it into the wild.

Got it.

In Cacti 0.8.8f, I only had UDP ping as an available ping testing option.
So all hosts were set to use that.  For reasons that I don't yet know, my
Cacti 1.1.37 upgraded installation doesn't seem to be able to do UDP
pings.  So it thought hosts were down and, therefore, didn't run the SNMP
tests.

Once I switched the ping tests to ICMP ping, the SNMP data logging began to
work again.

I just figured out how to get even more data in the logs.  It looks like
Cacti is marking every devices as "Down" for some reason.  It doesn't seem
to matter if I have them configured for "SNMP and Ping" or "SNMP or Ping".
Here is a section of the log from the most recent run:

I get the feeling that the device status has something to do with why data
isn't being logged, but I don't know why these devices are being assigned a
downed status.  Any suggestions?

Looks like that timeout was for two devices that were decommissioned in
2017 and a third device that was seriously reconfigured.  My guess is that
the third device just doesn't allow SNMP queries any more.  So these are
just a different issue all together.  I've disabled those hosts now.

The httpd processes run as user "www".  The cronjob runs as user "cacti".
The cache directory was originally all chmod 755 and user cacti and group
cacti.  I made these changes and waited a while to see if anything would
change, but it didn't.

For what it's worth, when I go to a device's configuration page, the "SNMP
Information" section at the top does show data from that system.  So it
seems SNMP connections are working.  At this point (after disabling the
devices I mentioned above) the last few lines of the log file look like
this:

A back-end server was failing in such a way that was causing 
intermediate issues and it wasn't taken out of rotation as expected.

It has been removed from rotation.

Hi All,
Just wondering does anyone know what's going on with the cacti.net website?
I am randomly getting Cloudflare Error 522, Every now and then I might get
the page I need but mainly just timing out.
This seems to be a broader issue as I've tried a few different ISP's across
a few different countries.
Any info would be appreciated.

Are only certain devices not working or is it all devices?

That timeout is just for one host that probably either isn't responding 
quick enough over SNMP or SNMP isn't enabled.  I would find that host 
and make sure the timeout is set to something that will work for that 
device or adjust the "Downed Device Detection" to work for that specific 
host/device.

Check the `cache` directory and it's sub directories.  Make sure they 
are read/write for the user/group for the web server.  This might be an 
issue with the poller and graph cache system not being able to write.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Here is what I've got so far:

- FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p4
- Cacti 1.1.37
- PHP 7.1.22
- MySQL 5.6.41
- RRD 1.7.0


All software (other than FreeBSD itself) was installed via the "pkg"
command.  The old versions were uninstalled prior to the new version being
installed, since that is what "pkg" does.  However, it doesn't remove any
modified files.

After the install by pkg, the web GUI prompted me through an "install"
process and upgraded the SQL backend in the process, confirmed some
settings in MySQL's configuration, etc.

The path /var/db/cacti/rra is currently owned by user cacti and group cacti
and mode 755.  As far as I can tell, the last modification dates on those
files are from just before the upgrade.

The poller is run by cron jobs owned by user cacti.  Here is what "crontab

Check out the `cacti.log` in the `log` directory.  It might give you 
some insight into what is going on.

The most common mistake on upgrade is either not copying the RRA files 
from your old installation or not updating the permissions on the RRA 
directory and files so that the user that runs the poller has read and 
write access.

If you still have an issue, email away, but please do include the OS 
Version and if you installed Cacti from the OS repos or from an official 
release file.

Well I can't help you with installation through apt as I installed it from source, since standard packages are not updated as frequently especially on gentoo!

In Cacti 0.8.8e , I noticed that, if the value or output of my script is


a:1 b:2


and I configure Data input method and datasource to it.


But when I checked the rrd file with rrdtool info test.rrd|grep .last_ds


it results in

ds[a].last_ds = "U"

ds[b].last_ds = "2"


Workaround:

The only way to fix it as workaround is by adding a dummy name:value pair  to output my script like -

1:1 a:1 b:2


It looks like the datasource rrd file only updates from the second key:value pair.


Could you please help me to understand if this is a bug in Cacti 0.8.8e or is there something I'm doing wrong. With the above workaround, I can get it working but would wanted to know the cause of the issue.
