Thank you for the suggestion, but I do not think that "abc xyz" should match like that. "abc AND xyz" maybe, if search syntax was supported, but this is just a quicksearch and I do not want to have any search syntax or advanced searching in it.
In KeePass, when I search for "abc xyz", it finds entries with "xyz sdafsadfasdf abc", so KeePass searches for each part of the searchstring and if all matches in all fields, it is found. Can you do that also?
it is working without problems, thank you :) As I don't see standard window bars in my desktop environment I cannot tell you if there is an ugly title bar ;-) but it is floating and working perfectly! Thanks.
I assume you have tried the Alternative Action option? This allows you to have one additional action (for just the password) triggered by Shift+Enter rather than Enter. If you really need more options, I'd suggest setting alternative action to Show Entry, and then from that you can do whatever action you like. Thank you for the idea, but I think being able to define multiple different hotkeys all of which spawn AutoTypeSearch in different modes is more complex than I want, for this plugin.
Please give the attached a try, and check for me that A) the window title "AutoTypeSearch" is now accessible to your tool under Linux and B) it doesn't actually show an ugly title bar where one is not wanted.
Alternative Sequences
Hello, I'm using keepass2 + AutoTypeSearch with Mono on Linux. By default my windows are not overlapping. I can set windows to float on top of other windows by its wm_class (window type like dialog or tooltip) or wm_name (title). The autotypesearch window has set neither of these so it is really hard for me to use this plugin. Is it possible to change one or both of these attributes? Thanks :)

Yeah - based on what AutoType Search is currently capturing or seems to be capturing (i.e. Window title). It would be a new project essentially to do what I was hoping could be done. I just started using WebAutoType and I'm going to take a crack at the Disambiguator partially because I'm curious and using more KeePass plugins recently, and partially because some day I'd like to make my own maybe. It seems like depending on what information is available within the target window; adding a tag wouldn't...
Thanks for the suggestion. I think people generally use AutoType Search when it isn't possible to match by window title, so I'm not sure this would help. If AutoType Search automatically added "Login" as the window title for an entry that would certainly not be what I want! I think it's best to leave setting up AutoType matches to a manual process, these can be fiddly to get right, and AutoType Search can be used when it isn't possible or worth the effort to do so.
And a few quick tests; it seems like Tags would be the easiest to use, but custom string fields might be a good route if the AutoType Search can be updated to check the value of a specific custom string (e.g. ATS_WindowValue and then add a list of window values there and direct the AutoType Search to check that?) I suppose I'm not entirely sure where the core AutoType Search functionality ends and where your popup begins, but at the end of the day once you select an entry once - it would be cool...
I was actually wondering this, but didn't want to create my own topic for the question. Is there a way to add 'AutoSave search results' functionality into the AutoType Search? I haven't tinkered with KeePass plugins enough to see if that's something I could do, but ideally after choosing an option for AutoType it would be cool to have 'something' saved that can be searched by the regular AutoType sequence later. I.e. either adding the Window title into the Window Title field of the selected entry,...
If you want check for updates to work (for any of my plugins), you have to install SourceForgeUpdateChecker plugin too
Every time I open the update update check the status for this plugin is the same: failed. EDIT: I wanted to report all the plugins I was having issues with, seems like you're the author of the 3. The other 2 failing are CheckPasswordBox and WebAutoType. https://i.imgur.com/OGWg72Y.png

Apologies - looks like it was added in the latest version of plugin. I was using the version just before that one.
Weird - I don't have that option. Will try to update the plugin if there is newer version.
Oops. I didn't notice that you posted in the auto-type search forum. The password only option is the last option in the either the normal or alternative action dropdown menus. See the attached screenshot showing the option selected in the alternative action.

Don't think that works with autotypesearch plugin. Use case: 1. Press hot key for auto type password only (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Enter) 2. No entry found and auto type search dialog automatically displayed 3. User enter the search entry and select one of the entries found (either with Enter or with Shift+Enter) 4. Auto type search plugin either executes the normal auto type (i.e. username and password) or what ever is configured as alternative action (including copy password to clipboard but no option available...
See the System-wide hotkeys section in menu Tools>Options>Integration(tab)
Actually just noticed that on the sourceforge page, it says "Auto-typing the password only is also supported." How is it supported?
Would it be possible to add "AutoType Password only" as an alternative action to auto-type? This way if the user wants to only type password, configure Alternative Action (Shift+Enter) to auto type password only. While not as nice as detecting which hot key was used, this may be good enough. I know that there already is an Alternative Action to copy password (to clipboard) but I think auto type password is better.
Okay, thanks - For me it matters as it is the only place I look to read what a plugin is about. That's why I included the very short description (change) above. Sincerely, Tobias
No, that's maintained by Dominic (KeePass author), not me, and I don't think he wants big descriptions for each plugin.
Uhhh, nice! Will this extend to the KeePass plugin page?
Change plugin description (Edit auto-type entries)
Sure, I've added some more detail to the description to mention the other actions that are possible. Thanks for the suggestion

facepalm I'm dumb. Each entry has "Auto-Type" tab. Ignore what's below. ~~For example, the window "Cisco AnyConnect | CompanyVPNName" is where I always want the password for the "Company Name" entry (and an enter) to be autotyped. Is there a way to store this so I don't have to type every time, and if not, can one please be added?~~

Oops... somehow I missed the resx file when commiting, sorry for that. Anyway, thanks for your reply. The updated plugin is working fine for me.
Thanks for this. I think you missed the resx file, but easy enough for me to add that string. Also, I refactored AutoTypePassword to use the existing AutoTypeEntry rather duplicate the code. There's no easy way to do PRs into Sourceforce that I'm aware of, but I've merged your code and bumped to v1.1, please give the attached a try and verify it's working for you before I release.
Add Auto-Type Password Only
Is the plugin loaded successfully? Or do you see some error message? If it is loaded successfully, do you have the option to show on a failed auto-type enabled, or are you trying to use a dedicated hotkey? On Linux, it isn't possible for AutoTypeSearch to register a global hotkey, so you have to handle that yourself and make it run KeePass passing "/e1:AutoTypeSearch" as a command line parameter.
Question - auto-type working?
I don't mean that the extra sequences would appear in the search window, I mean that the normal KeePass sequence selection window would be used. The same as you get now if you have multiple matching sequences on an entry: The flow would be, search for an entry, hit enter (or shift enter, whichever you have configured to be auto-type plus additional sequences), and this window appears allowing you to choose the sequence you want. An idea for a totally separate plugin would be to customise this window...
Yup, that's fine. I didn't mean for it to go straight into production, but I wanted some feedback on how that functionality could work. I like the idea of having each auto type sequence be an extra entry for each search item (and I agree, you don't need dynamic text entry at this stage) although I'm worried that would create a huge list if you had a lot of matching entries. What if you could hit tab, and it would expand your currently selected entry into a list of entries with alternate auto-type...
The UI stuff in this is a little fiddly, I'm not sure this is the best approach. On balance, I am going to say I do not want an extra control in the search window, sorry. To try and achieve the same goals, how about this for a design? You still have a list of additional custom auto-type sequences, but these are all appended as additional sequences for the entry when it is auto-typed (perhaps as an optional action, so you could have Enter be normal auto-type and Shift-Enter be auto-type with extra...
Yeah that's fair. And yes, I definitely copied that code. I may try and rewrite one out of a windows form textbox and label after work today. The jankiness is just that it's hard to scroll through the autocomplete list in the auto-type sequence text box. It might just need keylisteners for Up, Down and Tab (you only really need Shift-Tab at that point to keep working since the only thing to do is to go back up to the search box). I'll take a look after work today.
I've not finished the review yet, but one thing that stands out is that the WatermarkTextBox is... not great. I think from the comment in the source you didn't write it yourself, but it's rather leaky of GDI objects, and a bit slack with stuff like the pointless "join" parameter to JoinEvents. I was just going to drop it and use an ordinary text box, but if you want to find or write a better one, then let me know. I can tidy up the Allow Custom Sequences checkbox, no worries, but if the jankyness...
Whoops, sorry about the patch. I think there was an extra commit in there that just had some changes to my vs project files due to verison differences. I meant to rebase it to the end of master so the patch wouldn't be based off of it, but I forgot. That's probably why the patch didn't work. There's still a few tweaks I was hoping to get in, that patch was more proof of concept. The autotype entry box on the main search window is a little janky with the autocomplete, I think it could use a couple...
Thanks for this. I wasn't able to get the patch to apply successfully, but I've just downloaded master branch from your GitBucket and applied that. I'm going to go through and review the changes in detail, then publish a new version with your new feature included.
Use custom autotype sequence with selected entry
Great, thanks for letting me know. Yeah, it's only a dependency for using plugins, so the keepass2 package doesn't mark it as a required dependency. On https://keepass.info/help/v2/setup.html#mono there's a small note: "On some Linux systems, the mono-complete package may be required for plugins to work properly.", but I agree it's not obvious!
Installing mono-complete solved problem. Thank You very much. I wasn't aware, that dependencies of keepass2 package won't be sufficient.
You didn't mention you were running KeePass on Linux! Are you using Wine, or running it under mono? Have you installed mono-complete? That is required for any plgx plugins to work. Also, can you try running KeePass with the --debug command line parameter. This will make it produce a text file with more useful information about why it was unable to compile and load the plugin.
I'm using version AutoTypeSearch-v1.0 When I'm starting Keepass with plugin I can see error like in attached image. I'm using KeePass 2.43 (see attached image). I used to use the plugin some time ago (before KeePass 2.42).
It is compatible with 2.43. If you are finding it is not working, please let me know which version of AutoTypeSearch you have installed, whether it previously worked for you with 2.42, and any error message you see.
Hi, It looks, that plugin is not compatible with Keepass 2.43
You could try using CheckPasswordBox - that can be used to alter the auto-type behaviour to type only the password if the focus is in a password-box. As it takes effect during the auto-type itself, it shouldn't matter if the auto-type comes from an AutoTypeSearch result or from a hotkey.
Damn it! Do you think there could be a way to circumvent this? Like what if we could trick KeePass into thinking it was successful? (This assumes that would make any difference, which I have no idea of course.) Or would it be possible to catch another plugin's shortcut maybe? Like AlternateAutoType's (https://sourceforge.net/projects/alternateautotype/)? I guess that would require work from both plugins to allow interoperability which might not be something you guys would want to do, which I would...
Sadly it seems my suspicions were correct. There is no way for a plugin to determine which hotkey caused an unsuccessful autotype. I can't find any way to obtain that information from KeePass.
Hi, if I've understood you correctly, then the desired behaviour is that if you have the AutoTypeSearch option to "Show automatically if global auto-type finds no match" is turned on, and if you use the KeePass Global Auto-Type keyboard shortcut. If that fails to find a match AutoTypeSearch will be shown. If you then search select an entry, you would expect it to auto-type the password only. That seems reasonable to me. I will investigate and see if is possible to integrate in this way - I suspect...
Hi, When using the global password only autotype, I think it is reasonable to expect AutoTypeSearch to only autotype the password, however at the moment this shortcut is treated exactly the same way as the default global autotype. This is important for me because due to so many sites using two-step login (or whatever its name may be) like Google and login forms being different and somewhat unpredictable, I've decided to make my global autotype only autotype the username. This allows me to completely...
It would not be possible to just "enable all shortcuts", and I'm certainly not going to have a context menu on the search results - this is supposed to be a quick popup window, not a full UI. The problem with adding hidden shortucts, apart from the lack of discoverability, is that they may conflict with other shortcuts for the search box - given that the focus is on the search box, not the search result. If I hit Ctrl+V I would reasonably expect to paste into the search box that I have been typing...
would be great if there was an option to enable all shortcuts you can use when an entry is selected in the main window. ie. press ctrl-c in autotypesearch to copy password to clipboard

I have released version 1.0, which is compatible with KeePass 2.42
Yep ... Had the same issue. I get that it's not compatible with KeePass 2.42. Worked fine 2.41

Ubuntu 18.10: Plugin incompatible with current KeePass version
Great, thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for the quick response! After installing mono-complete, the plugin is loading properly
