1.2.08 ≥ 202503242144 Automatic Update Error

When updating the package using WinToolsRevisionNotifier or WinToolsDownload the warning message cannot resolve newest package file, please retry later occures, but later retries also do not succeed.

To upgrade the installation: invoke the ....\WA2LWinTools\bin\WinToolsWebDownload command or download the newest package file from https://sourceforge.net/projects/wa2l-wintools/files/latest/download and then install the downloaded file over the current installation. Doing this the current installation is updated and future automatic updates should run smoothly.
1.2.08 ≤ 202503162257 Installation / Config Error
On fresh install of the package the error "(...)/WA2LWinTools/etc/config.cfg": no such file or directory occures when starting the configuration program config (1m). The bug had no effect when updating a working installation.

To fix this issue:
  1. install a newer package (≥ 1.2.08.202504242144) - the issue is corrected here.
    The newer package can be installed over an already installed version, there is no need to remove an already present (partial/aborted) installation.
Many thanks to the user informing me on Sunday, March 23th about the issue! I haven't noticed that condition due to the fact that I did not execute a fresh install since a long time :-/

1.2.07 ≥ 202304020044 Virus Scanner False Positives II
It turns out to be more and more difficult to compile code that is not falsely marked as a virus by some popular virus scanners.

I'm not wasting my time developing destructive software (as viruses), I provide tools that make work more enjoyable and that I think are useful.

However, because this package is open source you can find the source code in WA2LWinTools/lib/src/ of all commands I developed and the included executables are compiled using the source code provided.

Unfortunately some commands of this package are also not spared from virus scanner false positives (false alarms). This causes possible important parts of the software package to be put to quarantine or removed what might lead into improper function.

To verify the completeness of the installation, the instverify.exe command can be used (Windows Start Menu → WA2LWinTools → WinTools Software → instverify). See instverify (3) for additional information.

To check files against many virus scanners virustotal.com is a good resource.

I learned that not for everybody the concept of portable software is well known.

The primary intention of portable software is to carry it on an USB stick and to use it on any device - but use portable software installed on a hard-disk has also its advantages.

The WA2L/WinTools package is portable but also integrates to the SendTo menu, Startup/Autostart, Desktop and Start menu if chosen. Therefore to evacuate from a computer when using the package from an USB device it should be "uninstalled" first (using the UNINSTALL button in WA2LWinTools\bin\config.exe); meaning the integrated parts mentioned will be reverted - but the software itself will not be deleted for obvious reasons.

To remove the software completely from the computer, follow the instructions in config (1m).
