Not that hard as when they're ramming a planet - once the warp speed irregularity ([bugs:#659]) is fixed, it's much easier to chase a capship in the middle of nowhere.
I think most such units need to have predictable flight plans or something, however. There's already a framework or two for this - in nav path and mission mechanics.
