I recently acquired a capture device that can capture in RGB, a Magewell USB HDMI Capture Gen 2. However, when trying to use it in VirtualDub2 I have issues with the format identification. The preview window shows the image fine, and I can actually do the capture in raw, but I can't choose a video compressor because it can't tell the data format. And nothing is able to open the resulting video file either.

It's worth noting, there's a ticket with FFmpeg that looks like it might have to do with the same, or at least a similar issue: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/6279
