Good, happy that fixed it. It's nice to meet another tournament software developer :D. Hopefully this helps with the events you guys run. Leave a review with what you think!
Yes, version 12 works for me. The reason I am interested is: I wrote a program (not nearly as elaborated as yours) to create a certain type of tournament, see https://sourceforge.net/projects/alracttg/ The program is installed in https://www.ratrabbit.nl/alracttg In this type of tournament, each player plays a fixed number of games, there is no real winner in the end. Tournament Maker seems very useful for other type of tournaments, I guess we will certainly use it at https://www.oltc.nl

Recompile for Java 9
Ok looks like there were some changes in Java 9 that broke one of the dependencies I was using. I fixed it, but don't have access to an Ubuntu machine with Java 11 right now. Can you download version 12 (of Tournament Maker, not Java) and let me know if that fixes it for you?

System: Ubuntu 19.10 Java: java -version tells me: openjdk version "11.0.6" 2020-01-14 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.6+10-post-Ubuntu-1ubuntu119.10.1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.6+10-post-Ubuntu-1ubuntu119.10.1, mixed mode, sharing)
What version of Java? It's been a while since I tested this on Linux. I know it works with OpenJDK 8.
Hi, On ubuntu, I tried: java -jar TournamentMaker-v11.jar I got a popup with the following text: Tournament Maker has encountered a fatal exception: no events found Any help would be very appreciated. Willem
thanks for all that feedback; good point re the automatch incorporation in the start function. Yeah, the history thing is looking ... onerous. Given that the whole point is to avoid repetition, I'm wondering if the randomisation I put in to avoid that might be good enough to eliminate the issue. I've been a bit busy on other things myself, so haven't got around to addressing some shortfalls in functionality; like the autopair needs to also be able to generate teams of different types i.e. either...
Sorry for the slow response, I haven't had much free time. I finally managed to look at your branch. From what I can tell, automatically generating the teams and even matching them randomly make sense as features in the program. I would suggest moving the auto generate teams into the CSV importer (assuming that people are signing up via a google form or something else that could be converted into a csv and imported) and the auto match into the event start so that you don't have to have an extra button...
no results needed, so your second paragraph is right; re the history, it's because each round is a new event, as people arrive and leave, and if the courts are full, waitlisted people are accounted for, and we do try to avoid making the same pairings twice. maybe we don't need to build a history, just somehow interrogate the previous events? Do teams play in a round robin style or is it still some form of elimination event? Just trying to understand why you would need to do more after generating the teams and randomizing the initial pairings. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and this is for a bunch of people just showing up to play and you don't actually need the results, just a way to schedule them on courts? In which case I'm still unsure why a history is needed to avoid having 2 teams play more than once. I'm a little swamped this weekend,...
Hi Jason nice to hear from you! it's the latter; basically just take a bunch of graded players, form teams and then matches from the teams, and play a round; then rinse and repeat ; have a look at my github WIP version where I have done the autopair and automatch buttons (the automatch sets the event size to the #teams/2) ; i just need to now add some way of avoiding putting the same players and matches together each round; I've randomised the array starting point in the team build to try to avoid...
Hi Bruce, happy to hear you find this useful! I'm a little unsure of what you are actually asking for. Is it to have pairs of players form teams without restrictions? Or is it just to be able to automatically populate an event with all the teams randomly? It's been a while since I've worked on this, but if it's something small I'm happy to take a look and see if I can help.
At my tennis club we have a need for software to make up pairs of players for doubles (based on their grade) and then make up matches for those teams. Normally we play for a set time, results are not kept ; this is called "board play". However we also have more competitive tournaments where we either make the pairs up or the players pair themselves up, and play a triple elimination tournament. Tournament Maker is the best fit i have found for Open Source software ,so I have forked a version to Github...
