Hi All,
I am trying to make TORCE night-mode racing . I spent plenty of time
on adding some light, but failed.
The first thing is the the a3cd loader (grloadac.cpp->myssgLoadAC())
doesn't load light in ac file.
So I tried to add some fixed light sourcesfirstly, but didn't get the
effection. Here is my function called in
grscene.cpp->grInitScene(void)
void testLight(){
static float light_ambient[] = {0.1,0.1,0.1,1.0};
static float light_diffuse[] = {0.5,1.0,1.0,1.0};
static float light_position[] = {0,0,1,0.0};
static float light_direction[] = {-90.0,-90.0,-150.0,0.0};
static float light_cutoff[] = {90.0};
static float front_mat_shininess[] = {60.0};
static float front_mat_specular[] = {0.2,0.2,0.2,1.0};
static float front_mat_diffuse[] = {0.5,0.5,0.28,1.0};
static float back_mat_shininess[] = {60.0};
static float back_mat_specular[] = {0.5,0.5,0.2,1.0};
static float back_mat_diffuse[] = {1.0,0.9,0.2,1.0};
static float Imodel_ambient[] = {1.0,1.0,1.0,1.0};
static float Imodel_twoside[] = {GL_TRUE};
static float Imodel_oneside[] = {GL_FALSE};
glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST);
glDepthFunc(GL_LEQUAL);
// set light source
glLightfv(GL_LIGHT7,GL_AMBIENT,light_ambient);
glLightfv(GL_LIGHT7,GL_DIFFUSE,light_diffuse);
glLightfv(GL_LIGHT7,GL_POSITION,light_position);
//glLightfv(GL_LIGHT7, GL_SPOT_DIRECTION, light_direction);
//glLightfv(GL_LIGHT7, GL_SPOT_CUTOFF, light_cutoff);
// set material
glMaterialfv(GL_FRONT,GL_DIFFUSE,front_mat_diffuse);
glMaterialfv(GL_FRONT,GL_SPECULAR,front_mat_specular);
glMaterialfv(GL_FRONT,GL_SHININESS,front_mat_shininess);
glMaterialfv(GL_BACK,GL_DIFFUSE,back_mat_diffuse);
glMaterialfv(GL_BACK,GL_SPECULAR,back_mat_specular);
glMaterialfv(GL_BACK,GL_SHININESS,back_mat_shininess);
// set lighting parameter
glLightModelfv(GL_LIGHT_MODEL_AMBIENT,Imodel_ambient);
glLightModelfv(GL_LIGHT_MODEL_TWO_SIDE,Imodel_twoside);
// enable light
glEnable(GL_LIGHTING);
glEnable(GL_LIGHT7);
glShadeModel(GL_SMOOTH);
}
And I adjust the material in scene using AC3D and blender, to make
sure the object in scene will be lighten by any lighting.
And I tried all kinds lighting sources in any position with any
parameter, but always no effect. This made me really frustrated.
Another strange thing is, I found that in file "grInitScene.cpp"
function "int grInitScene(void)", if I remove the fog by commeting out
lines:
// glFogi(GL_FOG_MODE, GL_LINEAR);
// glFogfv(GL_FOG_COLOR, fog_clr);
// glFogf(GL_FOG_DENSITY, 0.05);
// glHint(GL_FOG_HINT, GL_DONT_CARE);
Then nothing can be seen in game except the sky.
I am wondering there was some very simple and stupid mistake I'v
made, but I couldn't fingure it out.
Can anybody kindly shed me some light? I will very appreciat it.
Thanks in advance !
Best Regards,
Jackie Ju

Hello Bernhard, wow 1920x1200 is really huge, this could be up too 3mb just for the splash (as PNG24). Is it possible to use the JPG format for the splash? That would just 300kb file size. 1920x1200 will take much longer for Rendering, but we can try it out and may scale it down. ___/\_______________________________________________________________________ Ich darf nicht angeben. |\/\/\/| | | Bart. | (O)(O) ba...@ne... Hi Eckhard > Should the ratio really 16:9 (as an example 1280x720px) or 16:10 > (1280x800px)? Yep, 16:10 would be better. > What kind of resolution is prefered (16:10)? > 1024x640 - 1224x768 > 1280x800 - 1638x1024 The "source" file should come in a high resolution, I can scale it then down when it is too big for the package, so I think 1920x1200 or higher would be a good starting point. Hi Jean-Christophe acc files are files processed with the torcs accc tool, you cannot load those. Try the ...-src.ac files. Hello, I'm trying to load torcs' .ac files into blender or ac3d, but this appears to be impossible. AC3D displays a lot of "ignored" stuffs on the console, blender says "index out of bounds". Is there something particular to be done to be able to load them? I tried the following files: tracks/road/street-1/street-1.ac cars/p406/p406-lod1.acc cars/360-modena/360-modena.acc I am running Ubuntu 8.04 on x86_64 architecture. Hi Bernhard, some question about the splash: Should the ratio really 16:9 (as an example 1280x720px) or 16:10 (1280x800px)? Notebook displays as an example are mostly 16:10 (we have here 3 in our office: Acer, HP. Dell). What kind of resolution is prefered (16:10)? 1024x640 - 1224x768 1280x800 - 1638x1024 Thanx. ___/\_______________________________________________________________________ Dreck gehört nicht zu den vier Grundnahrungsmitteln. |\/\/\/| | | Bart. | (O)(O) ba...@ne... Hi Bernhard, thanx for the feedback. "- I prefer the TORCS logo which has a straight "T" (original shape), for my taste the curvature on the top of "T" does not match with the style." I could make the T straight again but i changed this to give it a more dynamic-racing style and while wings aren't straight. May it's a question to all what is prefered. Of course I will change it if most like the T on top straight instead of curved. As TORCS is an open source game i will make my work available under the free art license. ___/\_______________________________________________________________________ Ich werde nicht in der Klasse rülpsen. |\/\/\/| | | Bart. | (O)(O) ba...@ne... Hi Eckhard Very nice work. Anyway, here my wish list: - I prefer the TORCS logo which has a straight "T" (original shape), for my taste the curvature on the top of "T" does not match with the style. - The splash screen should be 16:9, but should look as well good when centered (4:3) with the "overlap" cut off (currently the backgrounds are scaled to fit the window, in the future I want to preserve the aspect ratio of a pixel). - Like Eric already mentioned, for integration into TORCS it must be released under the free art license and must therefore not contain any incompatible content/base. Again, great work:-) Bye, Bernhard. Eric Espie wrote: > Very nice ! I love it. > Please be sure that the background image is not copyrighted. > > Eric. > > Eckhard M. a question somewhat related to this email: Is it possible to set the controls so that the amount of wheel turn is proportional to the speed of the car? I.e., when the car is running very fast, the larger turns of the wheel would be needed, but when the car is going through a slowly curvy section, the steering wheel is more sensitive to turning. I believe this is the behaviour in some comercial cars, not sure if there is a term for it... I've do a little change to the input joypad section. with a joypad like the xbox controllor it's impossible to me make little correction to the traiettories. The problem is that the input change too rapid so i introduce a variable the chage the max speed how the input can change. I've also add the deadZone becouse my joypad isn't centered. ...ehm sorry fo my english. It's the code: from: rightSteer = -SIGN(ax0) * cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].pow * pow(fabs(ax0), cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].sens) / (1.0 + cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].spdSens * car->_speed_x); to: rightSteer = ((rap-1) * HCtx[idx]->prevRightSteer + (-SIGN(ax0)) * (cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].pow * pow(fabs(ax0), cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].sens) / (1.0 + cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].spdSens * car->_speed_x)))/rap + cmd[CMD_RIGHTSTEER].deadZone; if (rightSteer > 0.0) rightSteer = 0.0; if (rightSteer < -1.0) rightSteer = -1.0; HCtx[idx]->prevRightSteer = rightSteer; i think that the variable rap has a good value of 7 but now i'm trying to make it configurable in the game. i don't know if it can be a solution for all joypad but for me is necessary! |

I was playing around with torc v 1.2.4 and replaced most the GLUT code with SDL code.(except for some keyboard and joystick input issues) I created a glut style callback system for sdl so that it wouldn't break the code as badly. Is this something you guys would be interested when I finish it? Brian Gavin ---------------------------------------------------------- OK. So the patch was never finished ... sniff. Never mind. Hi Annick > If I understood well, it seems that one developper is currently and officially > working on a port of Torcs to the SDL lib, that includes a newtorking framework. Not as far as I know. I plan to implement an internet enabled version based on pure SDL (portable socket API). A final result will for sure not be available before the end of 2009, a visible prototype not before April 2009. If you are interested in the priorities have a look at the README. The most important thing for now is putting out 1.3.1;-) Finally 7 car textures are left to do (I am currently working on this), then review (and eventually apply/modify) the light patch of Wolf-Dieter, then package, test and release this thing. Interested people can check out the r1-3-1 branch. Bye, Bernhard. |
