life plus is based on Conway's game of life... but with much more.
life plus is python based, but runs at a reasonable speed for enjoyment. The number of neighbors determines a cell's color in next generation. Very interesting growth patterns can be created with tiny centered seeds or randomly. Conway's Game of Life is easily implemented (see suggestions). This is a sort of reference that shows to also to the geenral public (so not only C/C++ programming nerds) how such a thing is made: vehicles on hilly terrain, obstacles, and collision with them... environment with optimised viewdistance and day/night cycle (so I mean atmosphere). -

Game of Turmites
Conway's Game of Life and Turmites Combined!
... (Or white, I may have changed them) cells that follow a simple set of instructions based on the state of its adjacent cells. Turmites are types of little Turing machines, following their own set of instructions. They will always move forward, but depending on the color of cell they are on and their current internal state, they will change directions. Requires Pygame. -
