Slim Template
Template language to reduce the syntax to the essential parts
Slim is a Ruby template language whose goal is reduce the syntax to the essential parts without becoming cryptic. The initial design of Slim is what you see on the home page. It started as an exercise to see how much could be removed from a standard html template (<, >, closing tags, etc.). As more people took an interest in Slim, the functionality grew and so did the flexibility of the syntax. Slim will strive to maintain simplicity, but not everyone's definition of a readable syntax is the same. The docs will show you the options. Short syntax without closing tags (Using indentation instead) HTML style mode with closing tags. Slim is a fast, lightweight templating engine with support for Rails 3 and later. It has been heavily tested on all major ruby implementations. We use continuous integration (travis-ci). Slim uses Temple for parsing/compilation and is also integrated into Tilt, so it can be used together with Sinatra or plain Rack. -

A Ruby gem to load environment variables from `.env`
Shim to load environment variables from .env into ENV in development. Storing configuration in the environment is one of the tenets of a twelve-factor app. Anything that is likely to change between deployment environments–such as resource handles for databases or credentials for external services–should be extracted from the code into environment variables. But it is not always practical to set environment variables on development machines or continuous integration servers where multiple projects are run. dotenv loads variables from a .env file into ENV when the environment is bootstrapped. dotenv is initialized in your Rails app during the before_configuration callback, which is fired when the Application constant is defined in config/application.rb with class Application < Rails::Application. If you need it to be initialized sooner, you can manually call Dotenv::Railtie.load. -

CSS-Only Chat
A truly monstrous async web chat using no JS whatsoever
css-only-chat is a proof-of-concept demonstration that implements a functioning chat interface using only HTML and CSS, without any JavaScript or backend logic. The project showcases creative use of CSS selectors, checkboxes, labels, and the :checked pseudo-class to mimic interactive behaviors normally handled by JavaScript. Messages are pre-written in the HTML and displayed based on user interaction, making it more of a playful experiment than a real messaging platform. Its main purpose is to illustrate the limits of CSS as a programming and UI tool, serving as both an educational example and a bit of humor within the developer community. By pushing CSS beyond its conventional role, it demonstrates how user interfaces can be simulated through styling tricks and static structures. Although not suitable for production use, it stands as a fun exercise in front-end creativity and unconventional coding challenges. -

The HTML is sanitized, aggressively removing things that could harm you and your kin—such as script tags, inline-styles, and class or id attributes. Syntax highlighting is performed on code blocks. Jbuilder gives you a simple DSL for declaring JSON structures that beats manipulating giant hash structures. This is particularly helpful when the generation process is fraught with conditionals and loops. You can either use Jbuilder stand-alone or directly as an ActionView template language. When required in Rails, you can create views à la show.json.jbuilder (the json is already yielded). Fragment caching is supported, it uses Rails.cache and works like caching in HTML templates. If your collection cache depends on multiple sources (try to avoid this to keep things simple), you can name all these dependencies as part of a block that returns an array. -

My life just got a lot busier; I'd really like a maintainer or two to help. I'm not abandoning JPT, I just don't have a ton of time to put into hacking on it. If you've been learning Ruby and you want to move beyond tutorials and throwaway projects, I'd love to hear from you. I'd be happy to help you gain experience and credibility, if you're willing to help me maintain this project! It's simple to throw a photo on a page and call it a day, but doing justice to users on all different browsers and devices is tedious and tricky. Tedious, tricky things should be automated. Jekyll Picture Tag automatically builds cropped, resized, and reformatted images, builds several kinds of markup, offers extensive configuration while requiring none, and solves both the art direction and resolution switching problems with a little YAML configuration and a simple template tag. -

In order to use OmniAuth in your applications, you will need to leverage one or more strategies. These strategies are generally released individually as RubyGems, and you can see a community-maintained list on the wiki for this project. One strategy, called Developer, is included with OmniAuth and provides a completely insecure, non-production-usable strategy that directly prompts a user for authentication information and then passes it straight through. Sanitize

Sanitize is an allowlist-based HTML and CSS sanitizer. It removes all HTML and/or CSS from a string except the elements, attributes, and properties you choose to allow. Using a simple configuration syntax, you can tell Sanitize to allow certain HTML elements, certain attributes within those elements, and even certain URL protocols within attributes that contain URLs. You can also allow specific CSS properties, @ rules, and URL protocols in elements or attributes containing CSS. Any HTML or CSS that you don't explicitly allow will be removed. Sanitize is based on the Nokogiri HTML5 parser, which parses HTML the same way modern browsers do, and Crass, which parses CSS the same way modern browsers do. As long as your allowlist config only allows safe markup and CSS, even the most malformed or malicious input will be transformed into safe output. -
