Browserosaurus
The browser prompter for macOS
Browserosaurus is an open-source (GPLv3 license), browser prompter for macOS. It works by setting itself as the default browser; any clicked links in non-browser apps are now sent to Browserosaurus where you are presented with a menu of all your installed browsers. You may now decide which app you’d like to continue opening the link with. Select from any of your installed browsers when clicking a link in a non-browser app. Download Browserosaurus from the GitHub releases page. Select x64 for Intel machines, or arm64 for Apple Silicon (M1) machines. Please note that Browserosaurus only officially supports the version of macOS that I currently use, which you can assume to be the latest stable version. -

CanvasBlocker
A Firefox extension to protect from being fingerprinted
This add-on allows users to prevent websites from using some Javascript APIs to fingerprint them. Users can choose to block the APIs entirely on some or all websites (which may break some websites) or just block or fake its fingerprinting-friendly readout API. Canvas Blocker's default setting, and my favorite! All websites not on the white list or black list can use the protected APIs. But values obtained by the APIs are altered so that consistent fingerprinting is not possible. If a website is not listed on the white list or black list, the user will be asked if the website should be allowed to use the protected APIs each time they are called. Block the protected APIs only for websites on the black list. Ignore all lists and allow the protected APIs on all websites. -

Choices.js
A vanilla JS customizable select box/text input plugin
Choices.js is a lightweight, configurable select box/text input plugin. Similar to Select2 and Selectize but without the jQuery dependency. Choices is compiled using Babel targeting browsers with more than 1% of global usage and expecting that features listed below are available or polyfilled in the browser. You may see exact list of target browsers by running npx browserslist within this repository folder. If you need to support a browser that does not have one of the features listed below, I suggest including a polyfill from the very good polyfill.io. Events fired by Choices behave the same as standard events. No jQuery dependency, configurable sorting, flexible styling, fast search/filtering, clean API, right-to-left support, custom templates. -

GhostText

Whenever you’re writing more than a little snippet of code anywhere on the web, activate GhostText to open your preferred text editor and enjoy your own development environment. GhostText is a browser extension that connects to your editor via its own extension. Install both extensions and, if necessary, start the GhostText server in the editor’s extension. Most editor extensions are authored by third parties. You can create more extensions for your favorite editor! Refer to the protocol document. Once you have installed both browser and editor extensions, you can activate GhostText in the current browser tab by clicking its icon in the toolbar or by using a keyboard shortcut. The editor needs to be launched first. In some editors you’ll need to run the Enable GhostText command to start the server. Refer to the documentation of each extension. Sublime Text doesn’t need this step. -

Lighthouse
Automated auditing, performance metrics, & best practices for the web
Lighthouse is an open-source, automated tool that analyzes and audits web apps and web pages in order to improve their quality. Lighthouse collects modern performance metrics and insights on developer best practices; auditing for performance, accessibility, SEO and more. After auditing it produces a report either in JSON or HTML. Included in the report is a reference doc that explains the importance of the audit and how to fix the problem areas, which you can use to improve the web app or web page. Lighthouse can be integrated directly into the Chrome DevTools with its own panel. To run it, you would simply have to select the Lighthouse panel and click on "Generate report". It can also be run from the command line, or as a Node module. -

OpenWPM
A web privacy measurement framework
OpenWPM is a web privacy measurement framework that makes it easy to collect data for privacy studies on a scale of thousands to millions of websites. OpenWPM is built on top of Firefox, with automation provided by Selenium. It includes several hooks for data collection. Check out the instrumentation section below for more details. OpenWPM is tested on Ubuntu 18.04 via TravisCI and is commonly used via the docker container that this repo builds, which is also based on Ubuntu. Although we don't officially support other platforms, conda is a cross-platform utility and the install script can be expected to work on OSX and other Linux distributions. OpenWPM does not support windows. The main pre-requisite for OpenWPM is conda, a cross-platform package management tool. -

Specific versions of extensions available on PECL can be set up by suffixing the extension's name with the version. This is useful for installing old versions of extensions that support end-of-life PHP versions. -
