Startup Helper
Startup Helper will help you start up the programs you use every day.
Startup Helper lets users choose which programs are launched when the OS boots up. It also allows for waiting periods between launching programs, to prevent programs slowing each other down. During this startup process, the user can control the waiting period through the Startup Helper GUI, pausing the program, skipping a single program, or foregoing the waiting period and launching the next program immediately. This project is made in Java, so it should be multiplatform. However, I've only been able to test it on a Windows XP machine, so please let me know if there are oddities, bugs and/or malfunctions on other platforms. -

Assume you have a linux box with an outdated linux. You would like to perform an upgrade, but you would like to avoid burning a CD or even making a bootable USB flash. The machine may even be somewhere where you do not even have physical access. You already have a running kernel and a working network connection. Why not use them to get your new linux running directly? Many distributions already provide a network install but getting the installer to run on your old linux proves tricky because you depend on local libraries and tools. Why not rely instead only on the linux kernel? You unpack a minimal set of tools to a separate directory, you chroot to it and start from a well defined configuration that can get you to your destination. -

Cloudium OS is being written in pure ASM. It's designed for speed and ease, having cloud computing in mind. It also is secure (without requiring constant user input like Windows). But, how are we going to do this? Well every os wants/says these kind of things, so to accomplish our goals we follow these simple rules: keep it simple (that's way better then these complex interfaces etc. almost nobody wants), generalize (this makes things easier and more useful without extra complexity) and be inventive (sometimes doing it the classical way just doesn't work).
