Strangers turned Good Neighbours, Scott Verrill and Oli Fox’s paths crossed in a seemingly unassuming yet fateful way. Their story began in an East London music studio, where the pair worked in separate rooms next door to one another with just a single wall between them. This layout allowed Scott and Oli to hear the music each was creating, with their mutual curiosity leading to collaborative sessions. Eventually, the two came together to form the aptly-named duo, Good Neighbours — a nod to the serendipitous circumstances that brought them together musically.
The twosome surged into the spotlight this year, thanks to the widespread success of their viral hit “Home.” After, they continued their hot streak with the follow-up single, “Keep It Up,” a self-admitted favorite and proudly genre-defying feel-good banger:
“It’s probably one of the only songs I’ve ever written where it sits in its own genre…” explains Oli. “You can’t really put it in a lane, which is really nice.”
In their earlier days, Good Neighbours’ approach to sharing music was refreshingly inventive and deeply embedded in modern, grassroots methods, helping build a dedicated following both online and in person.
"With the early demos, we would make these private links on SoundCloud...it's just a really nice way of getting people engaged..."
“…we’d put them on Discord or send them out on DMs… Especially in London, I think that helped fill out the early shows so quickly. It’s like this gold dust that people can keep secret or pass on to the next person.”
Their third and most recent single, “Daisies,” not only highlights their artistic development but also exemplifies their unique sound: familiar yet perpetually fresh. Self-described as a “self-love anthem”, “Daisies”explores the theme of recognizing one’s own beauty through the perspective of someone else.
“I wrote the lyrics ‘I look so good I could cry when I see myself in your eyes,’ purely from hearing a voice memo from Scott,” says Oli. “Not feeling good about yourself, but when you see yourself through someone else’s eyes, it highlights all the things you’re missing.
The song’s uplifting melody and heartfelt lyrics offer a message of self-acceptance and hope. With each release, Scott and Oli maintain the essence of who they are together as Good Neighbours while introducing new elements that keep listeners on their toes.
