When he was in high school, he secretly recorded the sound of wind blowing through the bamboo forest in an old shrine next to the school, and took it home to listen to it repeatedly on cassette. He was very observant of sound and could even distinguish the difference between raindrops hitting bluestone slabs in different seasons by ear.
