Bruce Pagan
Iowa City
Classically trained musician, self taught mix master. Bruce Pagan is my human name, most of the time you hear it with an extended u like bruuuuuuucce. Listening to late 70s disco and soft rock as a kid, his parents encouraged singing and purchased intruments for him and his sibblings to learn to play. Starting elementary band and progressing through highschool concert and symphony bands he learned music theory and of the great composers of the classical era. Also participating in marching band, and outside of school projects his passion for the unique and uplifting only grew into mainstream media and a found love for hip-rop and rap tunes. Gangsters and hustlers rapping about the hunger and poverty of the lower class was something he found relatable and the 808 beats and high hats quickly grabbed his attention. He quickly found himself the person in charge of playing songs off his ipod at a house party, that in turn, turned into djing. At first just a hobby, he quickly learned that there was indeed a demand for dance music, but that demand was being met every time he got behind some turntables or a laptop and controller. People showing up to parties and filling basements and living rooms the heavy hitting rap tunes and bouncy instrumentals continued on through the night. A break for a term of service gave Bruce the chance to witness different music from all over the globe. And with that a taste for the different and unusual beats. Coming back to the states and transitioning back to civilian life found him back home and soon again needing adventure. He soon made he way to the Twin Cities of Minnesota, going to school and keeping to himself at first he soon found his way into shows in St. Paul and the rich music scene that is in Minneapolis. Becoming a bigger fan of dubstep and trap and bass music he soon started focusing his interest and in turn passion to that. Through networking he found himself part of a family and vastly expanded his musical and production knowledge. Now back in Iowa he has made it up the chain of djs to be included into some of the more exclusive dj collectives as well as made the move to performing more. Festivals played at include: 515 Alive Music Fest, Kosmic Kingdom Music & Arts Festival, Dancefestopia, and Resonate, Kulture, Basswoods, Bassfields!!! Can be found djing once or twice a month at mult locals....
