Hi Deborah, There were a lot of great changes made to this track. I like how you tightened up bars 5 through 9 by using the shorter notes to replace the previous half note and whole note melody. Changing those notes articulated the melody more. My favorite part of this song was the melody in bars 21 to 26. I was really impressed with the changes here. Talk about adding rhythmic value! That was really nice to listen to. I had to listen to this track quite a few times, just to take it all in. If I could offer any opinion or advice, it would only be to balance out the levels a little more so that the lows don’t hit so hard, maybe using some compression. And that would only be so that we could hear all of the great work you did a little better. Awesome final version!

I really like the final version of this track. Right away I noticed that you changed up the saxophone within bars 5 and 6. Going with ¼ notes instead of half notes really gave the sax intro an excitement that your rough draft didn’t have. I also enjoyed the choice of instruments and you added some reverb, which filled out the sound. In my opinion, the only thing that could have been worked on was compressing the drums a little bit. The overpowering rhythm took away from the bass line and drowned out the piano accompaniment in some parts of the song. Other than that, I think this sounded really great! Good job!

Hi Johnny, Your melody was very nice and constantly kept the piece moving in the right direction. I especially like bars 6, 7, and 9 on the saxophone. Those three bars were very interesting and pulled you into the piece right away. Q1. “Does the melody relate with the rest of the structure?” I think the melody made up most of the structure to begin with. The best part of the whole piece was the melody. Q2. “Does the Piano piece from 01:12 - 01:15 seem fitting?” The rhythm of this part sounds perfect. The chord progression appears to be off key. But your choice of rhythm was excellent. In my opinion, this was a very satisfying piece to listen to. I really enjoyed a lot of the sax parts. The only things that I might have re-worked are the sax parts from bars 22 through 25. Maybe a few quarter notes or eighth notes to mix things up and keep those few bars a little more interesting. Also, some automation in Pro Tools might have helped bring out the piano accompaniment a little more, when it was needed. Other than that, this was a great piece of music and I can tell you put some real effort into this!

Hi Deborah, This was a great effort and I loved the sound of the synth. It actually surprised me, when I heard it, and it sounded like you did just fine with Pro Tools. Q1. “Do the parts of each section complement each other? At all?????” I think that each section complemented one another nicely. The overall feel of the song was very fluid and easy to follow along with. Q2. “Is there enough rhythmic variety?” This piece could have been spiced up with a little more rhythmic variety. Throwing in some 16th notes here and there would have helped make this piece a little more exciting. But with the synth sound you chose it actually sounded very nice. My opinion about this piece is that I think you worked hard at it and it shows. Working within the guidelines of a template was hard, I think, for most of us, especially seeing as how we want to be creative on our own. But it seems like you tied everything in very nicely. Good job!

Hi Oliver, I really like this track. The chords and emphasis used on the down beats of bar 9 were excellent! That really got my attention. Q1. “Do you think the whole in the melody of bar 41 is too boring?” I do not think that the whole note here was out of place or boring. I feel like it helped lead and build up the tension right before resolution. Q2. “Do you think the lead melody is memorable enough, should it have maybe been more repetitive?” This is a difficult question for me to answer seeing as how I usually don’t like to be repetitive at all, even when it is called for. I think the melody was nice and smooth, and the piano accompaniment helped make it more memorable. In my opinion, I think you did a good job of building tension in the beginning of the piece, but somewhere between the middle of the piece and the end I did feel a little struggle to follow along. Maybe that is the boring part that you were really feeling. Not so much the bar 41 whole note, but the handful of bars preceding that whole note could have been a little more exciting. You set the tension up, right in the beginning, and then it seemed to trail off. Overall, this was a very nice bit of music to listen to. To be honest, I actually listened to it quite a few times!
