In development

This is the first version of Home Meadow Apothecary. It is unfinished and has no ending, plus missing core functions. Nevertheless, please take a moment to look at the beautiful art and read about the greenery of our home :)

The idea

Our idea was born even before the theme was revealed. We loved the idea of doing something with nature and flowers, meadows and collecting. Originally we thought about having the player color some flowers, then we pivoted toward collecting plants and an apothecary idea was born. When the theme was given as "Loop", we decided that we will incorporate seasons changing as a gameplay functionality, since plants grow in specific seasons and can't be gathered at all in the winter. That gave us a motive for the player to collect them all or most of them during the more active seasons, so cures can be made any time.

All of the plants in the game are commonly found medicinal plants from the meadows and forests of Estonia, our home country. Our artist owns a book full of these plants, with pictures and descriptions, of what illnesses they heal and where to find them. She translated them all into English and drew the icons for them using real references.

We are very proud of our idea and positively surprised at how far we could bring the game in these short 4 days. Since this is the second game jam for both of us, we aren't discouraged by the fact that the game isn't done. It's still a product of our labor and love, and we hope to continue developing it until it's potential is fulfilled. Nature and plants and the history behind Estonian folk medicine is so rich and inspiring, that we hope you take something valuable from the short experience we came up with. Please enjoy <3
