Spring/Summer 2019 Updates

Welcome to the other side of warmth. The days will soon begin to chill, and it will be the perfect weather to cozy up in a blanket with a good book. I know I enjoyed my summertime adventures, of which there were many! (See picture above) But now it is back to school, back to the daily grind, and back to editing my novella (!!)

In the last few months I’ve had a few pieces come out.

“Draconic”, was published in my university’s HeforShe anthology, only available in print unfortunately, though it is included in my now-completed poetry book A Refuge of Tales. Refuge was funded through an Ontario Arts Council grant and is currently out on submission!

“Landscapes”, also came out, through Wild Musette, and is available in their issue, Frog Porridge.

I also placed “Beauty, Sleeping,” in one of my favourite new magazines, Augur. Augur is a Canadian sff/slipstream/beautiful ethereal masterpiece of a magazine. This poem is about Sleeping Beauty (the original), and shitty MILs. You can buy a copy of the magazine here.

I had a new and unfortunate publishing experience in which a magazine published some of my submitted works without a contract (and there still is no contract), and without clear agreement on payment. It’s honestly one of the most upsetting things to happen to me as a writer to date (and with over 200 rejections under my belt now, that’s saying something). You can read more about my experience with LiteLitOne here. That being said, I am still very happy with the poems and so you can read, “All the Unwritten,” “Kussaz” and “Work,” here.

Finally, I had my piece “Call to Action- In Translation” come out just yesterday from Arsenika! This piece is my love letter to Emily Wilson for all she did translating the Odyssey. I have always loved the epics but I got to love it in a new way because of her. You can check that piece out here.

If you’re interested in my work going forward here are some upcoming things you can look forward to:

  1. I’m going to be at Can*Con in Ottawa Oct 18th-20th this year. This con is super amazing, and I’m really sorry if you don’t already have tickets because pre-sales are 100% sold out. I’m going to be on at least one panel, but they haven’t been announced yet so I don’t want to spoil the surprise here!
  2. Later this year and next I have some pieces coming out from TruancyNew Myths, and Polar Borealis, as well as some not-yet-announced things! You can check out my full bibliography including confirmed forthcoming works here.

That’s all for now!

Lots of love,

Lynne

January/February 2019 Updates

Welcome all you frozen souls looking for harbor this winter. I feel you.

I too, have been searching for home, for stability, for a comfort in stillness, and I have been largely failing, but there are some things that I am very happy and proud of nonetheless.

First of all, my poem, “Eruptions,” is now available for FREE  from Reckoning Magazine. Check it out here.

As well, my poem, “Willowisp” came out from Star*Line in their Winter 2019 issue and is available for purchase here.

I also got my first story publication credit! It’s a small flash-fiction piece entitled “Sent by the Wisewoman” prompted by some photography by Kit Sora. It will be publicly available soon! You can see the announcement here.

Finally, and most excitingly, I was selected for an Ontario Arts Council (OAC) award! I’ve received $1500 to spend time putting together my first, FULL-LENGTH book of poetry, which is a dream come true. My goal is to finish the manuscript by August and then start the submissions process, and it will certainly involve some of my previously published poems such as “Apologies from the Moon.” Tentatively title “A REFUGE OF TALES,” it will be about the ways in which stories help and harm, include and exclude, and how we can change the world around us with their power.

I’ll keep you guys updated as they come out, but you can also watch out for some work forthcoming from me in Augur, Arsenika, and Wild Musette!
