oil-based clay never hardens and is really easy to work with. the stuff i use for some of the sculptures and all of the animations is old plasticine that has been in an attic for about a decade, so i don't have an exact source.
i use DAS smart polymer clay for more permanent scultpures, because you can bake it to polymerize it.
